Machida City in Tokyo has released a five-minute promotional anime directed by Kenta Nozawa and supervised by Masahiko Komino (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure animation director). The anime, called Start, was uploaded to Pony Canyon's YouTube channel on Saturday. The story follows a married couple who recall their university days hanging out in Machida, and upon revisiting the area they discover the appeal of living there.
The story is written by writer and popular Twitter personality Masahiko Katsuse, who is a resident of Machida City. Several real-life landmarks are featured in the anime, such as Grandberry Park.
The protagonist Hiroto is voiced by Jun Fukuyama (Code Geass, Persona 5) and his wife Maki is voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi (Fullmetal Alchemist, Persona 3). Their son Keita is voiced by Nozomi Fuyuki (High School Fleet). The ending theme song "Start" is performed by Jun Fukuyama and KEN THE 390, a hip hop artist who is also from Machida.
"I was very excited to see the station area and the surroundings I knew come to life in anime!" KEN THE 390 commented regarding the anime.
