Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms Gets Stained-Glass Window at Hiroshima Train Station

The Hondōri train station in Hiroshima will install a stained-glass window depicting the Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms manga next year. The manga and its live-action film adaptation take place in Hiroshima and focuses on the aftermath of the nuclear bombing on a family over multiple generations.
The stained glass art will be original and created by CREARE's Yugawara studio. The art will measure 2.8 meters high, 7 meters wide, and include built-in LED lights. It will be unveiled at the station on February 29.
The original 2003-2004 manga won the Grand Prize at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize's Shinsei Award in 2005. After Last Gasp Publishing and jaPRESS released it in North America, the manga won one of New York Magazine's 2007 Culture Awards. The manga previously inspired a live-action film in 2007 and a live-action television series last year.
Kouno, a Hiroshima native, also published the In This Corner of the World manga, which similarly centers on a woman's life at at both Kure and Hiroshima.
