Live-Action Cheer Boys!! Film Unveils More Cast, Teaser, Poster Visual

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Ryō Asai's Cheer Danshi!! (Cheer Boys!!) novel revealed additional cast members, a teaser video, a poster visual, and the May 2019 premiere on Thursday.
The four newly revealed female cast members are:
(left to right in image above)
- Ayumi Itō as Satsuki Takagi
- Kurumi Shimizu as Haruko Bandō
- Erika Karata as Sakura Takagi
- Chihiro Yamamoto as Ōkubo
The image above shows cast members Ryūsei Yokohama as Haruki Bandō and Masaki Nakao as Kazuma Hashimoto in the top row. Additional cast members, from left to right in the bottom row, include:
- Toshiki Seto as Sho
- Shōgo Iwaya as Gen
- Ken Sugawara as Ichiro
- Daichi Kodaira as Ton
- Kōdai Asaka as Mizoguchi
27-year-old director Hiroki Kazama (After the Rain and Teiichi no Kuni spinoff mini-series) is directing the film.
The original youth novel revolves around the "slightly odd and cute" members of a cheerleading squad at a men's university, and is loosely based on the real-life men's cheerleading team "Shockers." Shueisha published the novel in 2013, and it has more than 170,000 copies in print.
Kenichi Kondō launched a manga adaptation in April 2016, an anime adaptation (pictured right) premiered in July 2016, and a stage play premiered in December 2016. Funimation streamed the anime with English subtitles as it aired in Japan, and later released the series on home video.
