U.S. Studios Drop Suit Vs. Defunct LimeWire File-Sharing Service
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Hollywood studios Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Viacom, Disney, Comedy Partners and Warner Bros. dropped their lawsuits against the now shut-down LimeWire file-sharing service and its owner Mark Gorton. The companies filed the motion for a voluntary dismissal with prejudice to drop the case and it was approved by U.S. District Judge Harold Baer Jr. on Thursday.
Deadline cites anonymous sources, stating the studios received a multi-million dollar settlement. The settlement details were not published in released court documents. The suit against LimeWire and Gorton was filed in February 2012 over thousands of copyrighted films and television shows shared illegally by users via the service. LimeWire lost a similar case filed by U.S. music record labels in 2010.
