Top 10 Favorite Anime Rating Comment
Death Note (TV) Masterpiece Self-explainitory why this psychological masterwork is on my list. With top-notch, high-caliber animation, haunting artstyles, graphic and often disturbing imagery, wrapped around a cast and crew of the most demented and twisted characters, this anime brings together fans to put them through a series of rapidly changing plot-twists and scenarios, bringing up questions regarding morals and human sanity, this is truly my favorite anime of all time, for the time being of course.
Den-noh Coil (TV) Excellent Can't say enough of this other than: Top notch. This is the type of anime that will not only influence the industry, but will probably influence the future of technology, with great idealism and technologically centered world. This anime sports in its favor a great, fun, yet dramatic tale of children in a world where the internet and real-life lack real boundries, and 10 years worth of perfecting animation and artwork really paid off. A very entertaining and fun series to watch, which brings the viewer into the world of "I wish I could shoot beams out of my forehead" and "I wish I had cards that I could hack into the air to become flying machine guns," or well, atleast for me. :P
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Masterpiece
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG (TV) Excellent The reason I rated this separately is because the first season, although great and intriguing, was not, at least in my personal opinion, as great as the second season, reason being that the first season focused mainly on the events unfolding and the psychological aspect of the Laughing Man incident, but the second also builds upon the characters, building onto their pasts, encounters, state of mind and increasingly on Motoko and Kazu's relationship, bringing their pasts together and tieing together the series beautifully. Overal, the second season is perhaps the best sequel I have ever seen, and the best aspect of which is how it makes the characters more "human" and less robotic, as the series made them seem, adding compassion, cruelty, emotional distress and sympathy not only to the characters. but also messing with the viewers mind so they end up not knowing who the true enemy is. Stunning series.
Gurren Lagann (TV) Masterpiece Wow.... you just cannot go wrong with the epicness and insanity this series has to offer. Not necessarily sychological or philisophical like the other anime on my list, but it masters a perfect art an animation style, complimentary to the Hiroyuki Imaishi's work on FLCL and Dead Leaves, with a storyline that grabs every cunning plot twist and every mind-numbing acid trip we all grew up with in the world of Super Robot series, and executes it flawlessly, with incredible emotional involvement and depth. This is a series to remember. :)
Mushi-Shi (TV) Masterpiece After living all the 14 years of my life with an anime influence, I have never seen a series so hauntingly beautiful. A deep, wonderous twist on fairy tale-like stories, warping them into tales of evil and survival among the beings that are neither living nor dead, nor animal nor plant, teaching life lessons and showing the beauty of the world amidst the supernatural horror. To add to this, it has in its crew a huge, huge, crew with influcences from many of the industry's best, such as writing from the criptwriters of Fullmetal Alchemist, Hell Girl, and others of todays best, with the highest in quality animation and engrossing, highly detailed artwork that illuminates the screen with it's beauty and grace.
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Masterpiece
Paranoia Agent (TV) Excellent If your the kind of person who wants to see true anime symbolism, look no further. Although I am a fan of Eva and RahX, they focus more on direct and slightly subliminal messages of psychological distress and pain the characters endure. This series, however, is blatantly direct (an episode is based solely on suicide). Right? Wrong. As you keep watching you realize what Lil'Slugger is, the truth behind the attacks, the epic ending, but all shrouded in mystery and subtle answers requiring the most intelligent, dedicated viewers to watch. Definately recommending to any fan of the psychological genre. The series also portrays dark yet fluid animation and a cast of hauntingly real, yet demented, characters.
Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei (TV) Masterpiece
Texhnolyze (TV) Excellent Dark, engrossing, nauseating, vicious, violent, twisted and at the same time beautiful, no one can truly gasp the horror and philosophies shared in this original (and sometimes called sadistic or gothic) sci-fi/horror thriller of epic proportions. Every episode brings you through a disgusting world of sin, evil, and warped souls, with no ends to trying to shock and confuse the viewer. Definately a series not for the light of heart, with graphic and explicit artwork, action scenes and depth into the human soul and mind.
