| FLCL (OAV) | Masterpiece | #2 It may have taken me four times before I could actually say that I even liked it, let alone loved it, but I am glad that I had the patience to let it mesmerize me. I have seen this more than any other show ever, and I love it more and more each time I watch it. |
| Gunslinger Girl (TV) | Excellent | #8 A very underrated little show. I always forget how compelling that it is, but I certainly didn't think that it was going to be. I initially had GSG pegged for everything but what it turned out to be: a very gentle, emotional and well executed satire of morality and ethics. Simply beautiful. |
| Haibane Renmei (TV) | Masterpiece | #5 Another truly perfect show. It may not have the personal connections that FLCL or Evangelion does, but it is indeed perfection. If I had to choose one anime to prove wrong someone who didn't think that anime could have substance, this would be it. |
| Kino's Journey (TV) | Excellent | #9 While the subject matter is interesting, the whole show feels somehow distant from the viewer. There is no real connection established between the two central characters and who ever is watching them. Despite this however, this show is a very interesting look at hypothetical case studies. |
| Mononoke (TV) | Excellent | #10 A very ambitious and beautifully orchestrated work. Similarly to Kino's Journey, Mononoke never gets the connection established to the characters. The show is based on 5 stories dealing with people's inner demons. Everything is perfect, if only the characters could have been more compelling. |
| Mushi-Shi (TV) | Masterpiece | #4 How lucky am I in my viewing experiences to have Mushi-shi occupy the number four slot. Truly perfect, absolutely stunning, and quite possibly the most rewarding show I have ever seen. |
| Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) | Masterpiece | #1 I may be miles away from the teenager that identified so strongly to this show, but it has certainly had an unmeasurable and lasting impact on my life. I could say that I didn't know who I was until I watched it. |
| Paranoia Agent (TV) | Masterpiece | #3 I don't think I realized how good Paranoia Agent was going to be when I first started watching it. Having seen all of Kon's other works now, I can safely say that this is his opus. |
| Serial Experiments Lain (TV) | Masterpiece | #6 The fact that this came out in 1997 is absolutely mind-blowing. Taking elements of 80's cyberpunk and infusing them with updated concepts, Lain takes a very accurate look at what we could become if we carry on this path of instant connections, and lose sight of what is real and what is virtual. |
| Texhnolyze (TV) | Masterpiece | #7 Another look at where we might be headed if we are not careful. Truly gritty and jarring, Texh requires patience and full attention to understand the subtleties. |
