Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth (movie) This has all the shortcomings of a clip episode: people who've seen it the first time won't care, and people who haven't will be seeing it out of context and without the sense of really getting to know the characters and situations in that extended way that TV shows have. In addition it foils linear narrative, which I'm fine with, but it might have been more interesting if they'd used some cinematic equivalent of the techniques William Burroughs used to craft his nonlinear, logic-defying novels. It merely seems random, when it could have been fractured and fragmented in more compelling and unsettling ways.
