5 Centimeters Per Second (movie) Masterpiece ~LIST'S CLOSED~ Well, maybe not closed, but this list is no longer updated and has been moved to MAL. Where is it, exactly? You'll never know xP
After War Gundam X (TV) Decent
Ah! My Goddess (TV) Good
Ah! My Goddess: The Movie Decent
Air (TV) Masterpiece G-Gao...
Akira (movie) Excellent
Aria - The Natural (TV) So-so Comedy and romance are two elements that are usually used to create the "warm" feeling of slice of life shows like this; without them, the plot tends to lack substance and all of that "warmness" ends up as "boring". That said, the lack of a real plot is probably what made a lot of people treat this show like a masterpiece.
Aria the Animation (TV) So-so I would make a comment on how Aqua looks like a surprisingly nice place to live, but you know how Aika's saying goes...
Aria the Origination (TV) So-so
Aria the OVA ~Arietta~ So-so
Azumanga Daioh (TV) Excellent Osaka = win
Azumanga Daioh - The Very Short Movie Excellent XD
Azumanga Web Daioh (ONA) Excellent Even more XD
Banner of the Stars (TV) Decent
Banner of the Stars II (TV) Decent
Banner of the Stars III (OAV) Decent
BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad (TV) Excellent Guess they really were made to hit in America
Bleach (TV) Good See Naruto.
Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan (TV) Good It's a story of love, courage, hope, and blood. And lolis.
Bokura ga Ita (TV) Excellent A real romance about real people; admittedly, there was nothing groudbreaking, but it did everything that it should have to create the bittersweet feeling of every good love story. Best shoujo/romance I've seen next to Honey and Clover.
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan Second (OAV) Good
Boogiepop Phantom (TV) Very good Worth a watch for sure, but you'll need to read the novels to make any sense out of it.
Brighter than the Dawning Blue (TV) Good
Cannon Fodder (movie) So-so
Canvas 2 - Niji Iro no Sketch (TV) Very good Looking back, I'd say this show wound up being a solid bittersweet romance despite it's obvious cliches; and if you think you can predict the ending from the first episode, trust me, you're wrong.
Castle in the Sky (movie) Decent It was okay, but...kind of slow, don't you think?
Chibits (special) Very good
Chobits (TV) Very good
Clannad (TV) Masterpiece Dango dango dango dango ~
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV) Masterpiece
Comic Party (TV) Very good Taishi Kuhonbutsu, you would make the Genshiken cast proud, and you've given me a new aim in life: to take over the world using doujinshi!
Comic Party Revolution (OAV) Good
Comic Party Special (OAV) Excellent Epic win, plain and simple. This tops even Madarame's legendary 2D Complex speech.
Comic Party: Revolution (TV) Good
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Excellent "See you, Space Cowboy"
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie Excellent
Crest of the Stars (TV) Decent
D.C. II: Da Capo II (TV) Very good Another great addition to an already great franchise; on the downside, it seemed to suffer from To Heart syndrome, aka spending over half the series on the obligatory "robot girl", thus covering the same common-sense philosophy time and time again that's really irrelevant in a dating sim. It would be somewhat pointless to toss romance into Ghost in the Shell, no?
D.C. ~Da Capo~ (TV) Very good The ending makes up for the rather dull first half
D.C.S.S. ~Da Capo Second Season~ (TV) Very good Aisia was a nice breath of fresh air...but we all know Nemu-chan is superior XP
D.N.Angel (TV) Very good
Darker than Black (TV) Excellent
Dojin Work (TV) Very good
ef: a tale of memories (TV) Masterpiece Thirteen hours is a long time...it's too hard to go thirteen hours without thinking about how good this show is.
Escaflowne: The Movie Good
Fafner (TV) Excellent
Fafner in the Azure - Right of Left (special) Excellent
(The) Familiar of Zero (TV) Very good For something that appeared so simple and cliche, this one turned out to be quite the breath of fresh air. On a sidenote, though, you gotta feel at least a little sorry for Saito; even for a tsundere, Louise can be pretty evil >_>
(The) Familiar of Zero: Knight of the Twin Moons (TV) Very good I'll admit it was a step down from the first season, but I can't agree with it being an utter disgrace either.
Fate/stay night (TV) Very good
Fighting Fairy Girl Rescue Me Mave-chan (OAV) Good
Final Examination Kujira (ONA) So-so
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie) Very good
Flame of Recca (TV) So-so
FLCL (OAV) Excellent My brain is still trying to comprehend exactly what transpired over these six episodes. I doubt it will ever finish.
Full Metal Panic! (TV) Very good A good mix of comedy and action. A bit overrated, but still good.
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV) Very good
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (OAV) Very good Signature FMP comedy with a bit of a treat for the Tessa fanboys
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) Very good I've seen better comedy...but the hot spring episode was still the most memorable.
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Very good
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa Excellent
Galaxy Angel (TV) Good
Galaxy Angel A (TV) Good
Galaxy Angel S (special) Good
Galaxy Angel X (TV) Good
Galaxy Angel Z (TV) Good
Genshiken (TV) Very good Madarame = win, and you all know it. There isn't another more worthy OTAKING in the world of anime. Well, maybe except for Yamazaki.
Genshiken (OAV) Very good
Genshiken 2 (TV) Very good "A flat chest is a status symbol!" Suzy and her references are the best thing to happen to this show since Ogiue XD
Ghost in the Shell (movie) Masterpiece
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (movie) Masterpiece This one in particular was really good, the historical quotes added a lot to the depth.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV) Masterpiece I actually ended up reading Catcher in the Rye because of the Laughing Man. Not a bad book, actually, not bad at all.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG (TV) Masterpiece
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (movie) Masterpiece
Gift - eternal rainbow (TV) Very good Even after teleporting from another dimension, the intelligent and scientific Suginami STILL isn't main character material. Oh well. Maybe some day Circus will give him the position he deserves.
(The) Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie) Excellent
Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun (TV) Good
Grave of the Fireflies (movie) Excellent
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (TV) Very good Entertaining from start to finish. Definitely one of the more unique comedies out there.
Gunbuster (OAV) Good
Gunbuster 2: Diebuster (OAV) Very good
Gunslinger Girl (TV) Excellent
H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~ (TV) Very good Who would've guessed the funniest episode would end with the biggest plot twist >_>
Haibane Renmei (TV) Excellent It's as thought-provoking as people say. Keeps you thinking even after the credits roll.
Hayate the Combat Butler (TV) Excellent What's better than a loli tsundere voiced by Rie Kugimiya? A loli tsundere voiced by Rie Kugimiya that also happens to be a hikikomori otaku.
Hidamari Sketch (TV) Good
Hidamari Sketch (special) Good
Higurashi no Naku Koroni Gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen (OAV) Very good
His and Her Circumstances (TV) Very good A pleasant, heartwarming shoujo about a relatively normal couple doing relatively normal things. Yup, that about sums it up, and that's why it's as good as they say. Also, make sure you read the manga to get past the Gainax'd ending. Arima arc FTW!
Honey and Clover (TV) Masterpiece Ever notice how Mayama gets all the cool quotes?
Honey and Clover II (TV) Masterpiece As time passes, the day will come when everything will fade into memories. But, those miraculous days that I spent watching this show will continue to revolve forever somewhere deep in my heart as a bittersweet memory.
Hotori - Tada Saiwai o Koinegau (special) Very good
Infinite Ryvius (TV) Excellent Lord of the Flies in space indeed. A must watch for fans of psychology.
Inuyasha (TV) So-so How long is the manga again? And how many times did Kikyo die?
InuYasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass Decent
InuYasha the Movie 3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler Good
InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time Decent
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu (OAV) Very good
Itsudatte My Santa! (OAV) Very good
Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade (movie) Excellent The hunters only catch the wolves in the tales humans tell
Kanon (TV 2/2006) Masterpiece Shiori-chan <3
Kimikiss pure rouge (TV) Excellent A lighthearted yet painfully realistic shoujo slice-of-life romance...based on an dating sim? Sometimes I wonder how these ideas actually end up being good <_<
Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (movie) Very good
Kino's Journey (TV) Very good
Kino's Travels: Life Goes On (movie) Good Stupid old lady. Again. At least Kino knows how to defend herself.
Knight Hunters (TV) Good Less mediocre than it first appears.
Knight Hunters Eternity (TV) Good
Kurau: Phantom Memory (TV) Very good
Lamune (TV) Good
Last Exile (TV) Excellent An expertly crafted story with fast paced progression that could hold it's own against most any novel, Last Exile does just about everything right and nearly nothing wrong. Go watch it. Now.
Looking Up At The Half-Moon (TV) Very good
Love Hina (TV) Good It's not half-bad once you get over the fanservice.
Love Hina Again (OAV) Good
Love Hina Spring Special - I Wish Your Dream Decent Kinda pointless
Love Hina X'mas Special - Silent Eve Very good
Lucky Star (TV) Masterpiece Death-by-moe? That man wins at life, I tell you.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (TV) Good
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's (TV) Very good
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (TV) Very good Magical girl has never been this epic. This show singlehandedly made me a believer that GARmoe is possible and is awesome.
Magikano (TV) Very good
Magnetic Rose (movie) Good
Mahoromatic - Automatic Maiden (TV) Good
Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful (TV) Good Even by Gainax standards, a plot hole that huge is just inexcusable.
Mahoromatic: Summer Special Good An awful lot of problems would be solved if Suguru would just get a laptop >_>
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Masterpiece All Hail Haruhi-sama!
Metropolis (movie) So-so It's kinda like Ghost in the Shell...except...not as good.
Millennium Actress (movie) Excellent The key to the most important thing
Minami-ke (TV) Very good Sensei! Ninomiya-kun! SENSEI! NINOMIYA KUN~!
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (TV) Excellent Probably among the most realistic Gundams to date, 00 proves that angsty mech pilots aren't always cliche and that politics can indeed be awesome. All we need now is more.
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (TV) Excellent
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny (TV) Excellent I actually prefered it over SEED. And the ending was good.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (TV) Excellent
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz Special Edition (movie) Excellent
Momo: The Girl God of Death (TV) Decent
Mushi-Shi (TV) Excellent Now this is the kind of anime you watch in utter darkness and silence. Calm your mind, let your senses merge with the suble sounds of your TV...this might sound strange, but you'll see what I mean after the first couple episodes. Truly an anime for those who like to think.
My Bride is a Mermaid (TV) Excellent Masa-san~ XD
My-HiME (TV) Good Bah, the ending keeps it from an Excellent.
Myself; Yourself (TV) Very good Stupid old lady >_>
Nagasarete Airantou (TV) Good
Nanatsuiro Drops (TV) Good
Naruto (TV) Decent Average shounen. Nothing more, nothing less.
Naruto Special: Battle at Hidden Falls. I Am the Hero! (OAV) Not really good Basically a filler arc...even fans of the series might not like it.
Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow Decent
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (movie) Decent
Negima! (TV) Good
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Masterpiece Shinji Ikari is probably my favourite anime hero. At least he has doubt about what he does and doesn't have an infinite supply of blind courage like most anime protagonists.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth (movie) Excellent
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (movie) Masterpiece
Nodame Cantabile (TV) Very good Though it's only natural, I suppose this one is better if you've been a part of a band at some point in your life or if you're into classical music. Now if only I could make cherry blossoms appear while I'm playing...
Noein - to your other self (TV) Excellent Highly underrated. Once you get over the unusual animation and seemingly cliche plot, you'll see Noein as the deep and thought-provoking sci-fi anime that it really is.
Noir (TV) Very good
Now and Then, Here and There (TV) Decent It was an interesting perspective on a post-apocalyptic world, and clearly has potential, but somehow it failed to drag much emotion out of me; for that, I blame the walking mass of cliche carefree idealistic energy known as Shuzo.
Oh My Goddess! (OAV) So-so
Otaku no Video (OAV) Good Nothing particularly funny or otherwise worthy of note, but it's a short, entertaining adventure nonetheless for the otaku at heart. After all, who can honestly say they never had a moment when they felt like becoming the legendary OTAKING?
Ouran High School Host Club (TV) Very good It's a show about a tomboy-ish girl that ends up working with a group of bishounen, half of which end up in love with her. As a guy that makes a category specifically for VN adaptations (and we know what most of those are like), my saying that this show is actually good means something.
Pani Poni Dash! (TV) Very good Once you get over the plethora of references that even a hardcore North American otaku couldn't get (unless you follow Japanese variety shows and 2chan memes), Pani Poni Dash serves up the randomness and hilarity like nothing else. Ichijou Feast FTW!
Paprika (movie) Very good
Paranoia Agent (TV) Excellent An eerie psychological drama that actually makes sense, though not without some signature Satoshi Kon oddity, all wrapped up inside an elaborate Phoenix Wright case? Count me in.
Peacemaker (TV) Good
Perfect Blue (movie) Masterpiece It's as creepy as it is good. And on the creepy scale, it scores pretty high.
(The) Place Promised in Our Early Days (movie) Excellent
Planetes (TV) Excellent Yet another anime that's different from anything else; the term "realistic sci-fi" seems to fit it well. Since it's based so strongly on the real present-day world, the story really engrosses you, whichever side you chose in the end.
Please Teacher! (TV) Good
Please Teacher! (OAV) Good
Please Twins! (TV) Good I suppose they've never heard of a DNA test -_-
Please Twins! (OAV) Good
Princess Mononoke (movie) Good
RahXephon (TV) Excellent Wow...eerie, mysterious, and exciting all at the same time. Whether it's a mecha, drama, or anything else, RahXephon is an incredible anime.
REC (TV) Good
Rozen Maiden (TV) Very good Not bad for a show about dolls.
Rozen Maiden: Ouvertüre (special) Very good
Rozen Maiden: Träumend (TV) Very good
Rumbling Hearts (TV) Excellent
Rurouni Kenshin (TV 1996) Very good Awesome characters and story, but it's a bit long, the beginning gets repetitive, and everything after the Kyoto arc is filler. If you watch this, though, you MUST watch Samurai X. Easily the best part of the series.
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal (OAV) Masterpiece Easily the best part of the Kenshin universe and a masterpiece for anyone with even a faint interest in anime.
S-CRY-ed (TV) Good More GAR than most can handle, condensed into 26 eps. That said, I'm not even much of a fan of the genre anyway.
SaiKano: Another Love Song (OAV) Very good Not bad by any means, but the last love song was enough; we really didn't need another one.
Samurai 7 (TV) Decent
Samurai Deeper Kyo (TV) Good
Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei (TV) Very good A clever yet bizarre comedy. Most of the jokes are hit or miss, but at the very least, you'll be crying with laughter at least once in the series.
School Days (TV) Excellent Honestly, why bother saying anything about a show like this? Just watch it and you'll know what the fuss is about...though you may be in for a surprise.
School Days: Magical Heart Kokoro-chan (OAV) Very good Nice Boat lulz
School Rumble (TV) Excellent Tenma's ahoge > all others. Yes, that includes you, Himeko.
School Rumble: 2nd Semester (TV) Excellent
School Rumble: Extra Class (OAV) Excellent
Scrapped Princess (TV) Decent It works for some people, and for others it doesn't. For me, it was average.
Serial Experiments Lain (TV) Masterpiece The first episode is called "WIERD". I'm tempted to say "nuff said", but really, everything from the eerie atmosphere to the depth of plot and symbolism was pure brilliance. You've gotta admit though, it was wierd.
Shakugan no Shana (TV) Excellent What, you think Shakugan no Shana isn't worth watching? Urusai, urusai, urusai!!
Shakugan no Shana Second (TV) Excellent Everyone's favourite loli tsundere is back with more moe, more romance, and more GAR than ever before. What's not to love?
Shakugan no Shana SP: Koi to Onsen no Kōgai Gakushū! (OAV) Good Kazumi-chan <3
Shakugan no Shana-tan (OAV) Good
Shakugan no Shana-tan Returns (OAV) Good
She, The Ultimate Weapon (TV) Masterpiece We will live, and we will love
Shuffle! (TV) Very good My only complaint is that the sequels weren't animated. I want more Nerine >_>
Sketchbook ~full color'S~ (TV) Decent
Sola (TV) Masterpiece *Remembers Matsuri and her signature vending machine kick* *...sniff...*
(The) Sovereign Carmel-san (special) Good
Spice and Wolf (TV) Very good An anime about barterting and economics? And it's actually good? Who knew.
Spirited Away (movie) Very good An unusual classic. One of the wierdest movies I've seen, but not in a bad way.
Steamboy (movie) Good A movie about a ball that contains steam? Surprisingly, it's not bad.
Stink Bomb (movie) So-so
_Summer (OAV) Decent
(The) Supreme Hecate-tan (OAV) Good
Texhnolyze (TV) Masterpiece
To Heart (TV) Decent A good example of how not to do a dating-sim adaptation.
ToHeart - Remember my memories (TV) Very good This one definitely improves over the first season, the characters are more interesting and the story actually moves. More importantly, though, they didn't spend over half the series introducing the girls one at a time in as tedious a manner as possible >_>
ToHeart2 (TV) Decent Why did I watch this, you ask? ...I'm not quite sure.
ToHeart2 (OAV) Very good With some extra comedy with a flare of self-parody, the OVA ended up being (oddly enough) better than the main series. Well, at least Komaki is still as moe as ever ^_^
Tokyo Godfathers (movie) Very good
Tokyo Marble Chocolate (OAV) Good
Trigun (TV) Excellent It's a typical shounen about a carefree wandered with a mysterious past. But it's also a tragic tale about redemption and philosophy; right and wrong. In short: it's awesome.
True Tears (TV) Excellent Hiromi + glasses = instant win
Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE (TV) Decent Meh...maybe it's better for CCS fans
(The) Vision of Escaflowne (TV) Very good
Voices of a Distant Star (OAV) Excellent Simply beautiful. For a short half-hour OVA, it pulls you into the story more than some complete series.
Welcome to the NHK (TV) Excellent On the outside, it's a parody/comedy about a hikikomori and an otaku who try and overcome their social problems. Start watching, however, and you realize that NHK is nothing short of a masterpiece of psychology, delivering a disturbingly realistic look at the dark side of society; and it doesn't need multiple personalities or twisted antagonists to creep you out.
When They Cry - Higurashi (TV) Excellent Suspense + murder mystery + killer lolis = WIN
When They Cry - Kai (TV) Excellent Er...what happened to the suspense, murder mystery, and killer lolis? Well, at least the plot made sense.
X (TV) Very good
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei (TV) Very good
