Akira (movie)
Amagami SS (TV) Based off a dating sim, and the way the series is structured doesn't really appeal a whole to me because it feels so rushed for each scenario. The first arc REALLY turned me off and I was really tempted to just call it, but I thought I'd continue to see what the other arcs were like and I'm not too disappointed (yet). Kaoru's arc (albeit too short) was much better.

(The) Beast Player Erin (TV) Masterpiece OK I want to make a special note here-I have a interesting family and it's a result of my personal upbring did I get so emotionally attached to this anime. This is a beautiful, refreshing story about a girl named Erin growing up in a medieval fantasy world. It's focus is primarily on her day to day life with other people and how she grows up...trust me, I know this doesn't sound very compelling but this series is amazing. I marathoned it within a week (50 episodes) and absolutely loved every bit. The themes, writing, art, music....I loved it all!
BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad (TV) Good
Berserk (TV) Very good The story and characters in Berserk are compellingly intriguing, and that's what makes it worth watching. I enjoy the music well enough as it seems to suit the series, but it's not mind blowing. The animation is terrible, and that really does not sit well with me-I'll be frank, I like series with high production values that go out of their way to look attractive. Of course it does not make or break a show, but it certainly weighs in. What really killed this series though, is the ending-I really do not agree with Miura editing out key characters from the anime adaption either; perhaps this is beyond me though. Long story short, this series is a ridiculously expensive ad to get fans of the anime hooked onto his manga-which he succeeded with me :D.

Clannad After Story (TV) Excellent The slam dunk of Clannad, this is the signature "hasta la vista" key moment of what makes Key, well, Key. I'm not gonna lie-I was moved, I cried, and I was happy in the end that I watched this adaption.
Claymore (TV) Good This was an excellent show and I loved it from start-well, the end is what kinda killed it for me. Although it does wrap things up in a somewhat satisfactory way, it's way too cliche and the manga gets soooo much better after this little arc wraps up. Anyhow, it seems that producers wanted to put this baby to rest from the start, knowing they did NOT want to put in another season into this show. It's really a shame, I do enjoy the story we see in the manga and would've loved to see another season. Sadly, I know this will fall into the same category as Berserk and I'll just have to follow the manga from now on.

Cross Game (TV) Masterpiece I am telling you right now, whatever preconceptions you have about "sports" anime you NEED to throw them out the window and give this episode a shot. It is absolutely amazing, you will not regret listening to this advice; hands down this show is in my top 5. I have waited for each episode eagerly and it fails to disappoint every time. The number of times I was disappointed that the episode was over are numerous. Just try it!

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (TV) Decent It's the same story as the first, except kid version and shorter-which really killed it for me because my expectations for this were high due to the first series influence. Sorely disappointed with this show.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa Very good
(The) Future Diary (TV) Very good
Ga-Rei-Zero (TV) Decent The reason this was a decent watch for me was because of the unorthodox approach of introducing the series. The first two episodes depict the end (or near end) of the series and it made me wonder, "wow, how did this happen?" It had a cool factor which probably helped it out, but when it came to the real meat-plot, script, and characters-it just turned out to be average. I was moved by the ending overall I guess, but it was so expected and a bit drawn out that it just felt lackluster. Well, if you're into some decent drama with flashy action scenes this is definitely worth a watch. Maybe I'll check out the manga to see if the source is any better, but as a general rule of thumb I almost always like the anime of a manga adaption better then the manga. Animation just appeals to me more.
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo (TV) Masterpiece Absolute genius. It had me hooked right from the beginning; even its opening and ending were amazing! I cannot convey the awe this anime inspires into me because it is indescribable; everyone should AT LEAST take a dip in this emotionally drenched series. This is easily within my top 3 favorite series of all time, if not at the very top. I didn't feel bored whatsoever throughout the entire show, and each episode developed the story deeper and deeper. The mystery, drama, romance, and just plain artwork gets my blood boiling with passion!

Grave of the Fireflies (movie) Masterpiece Holy crowe! What a moving piece of anime! I normally don't get so hyped over movies that are not backed by any kind of series, but this movie moved me. Each and every emotion is covered easily throughout this movie-frustration, sympathy, despair, relief, and a bit of giddyness. The high expectations I had coming into this film were easily met even though the overall theme was a bit dreary. I enjoyed every bit of watching the siblings and their struggle in this WW2 Japan.
Guilty Crown (TV) So-so
Gungrave (TV) Very good
Gunslinger Girl (TV) Excellent
Gurren Lagann (TV) So-so Seriously, this series has to be the most overrated pieces of crap I have dragged myself to watch through until the end. Normally, I would've stopped watching this series in the single digits (in terms of episodes) but the overwhelming amount of praise this show gets, I just had to see it until the end to hopefully see the magic (this happens for me on occasion). In the end, my opinion remained the same and I can't see the magic. It's a over hyped mecha with OK fan service and a predictable plot. I found myself quite literally laughing out loud at this series at certain points-the only redeeming points this show had was it's message and the underdog theme. However, the underdog overcoming struggles seemed way too inhuman to me and just out there. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters (even though I'm normally a sucker for attractive females with to die for voices-Oh My Goddess much, yes?)-Yukio was way too much of a cliche. My goodness, this has really taught me I need to just stop while I'm ahead instead of depending on other people's opinions for a series.

Inuyasha (TV) Decent This is my gateway anime-my standards were much lower then and I imagine if I had to rewatch this show, I probably wouldn't be able to bring myself to it. I'm not going to change the rating though because I truly enjoyed this show at the time, and I think everyone can say each of our personal standards changes over time. The ending really did tick me off, which is probably why I rated this lower then Excellent-but I'm glad to hear my long time dream of the ending being animated this fall and I am looking forward to it.

Koi Kaze (TV) Masterpiece It's been a while since I've seen this and while I was reviewing my ratings, I left this as a masterpiece because I remember: it took one of society's social taboos, and made me feel sympathy towards the siblings. It also made me think "it should be ok for these 2 to be together." If the show could do that, it must've done something right. Might have to rewatch some to recollect further details.

(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV 2009 renewal) Worst ever Biggest fail in the history of animation, I am severely disappointed that the sponsors of this show decided to be "unique" on a franchise as successful as Haruhi; this will be forever known as the biggest mistake in the history of Japanese animation. "Endless Eight"...don't make me laugh, please. Just don't bother watching past the first 3 episodes of this crap.

Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit (TV) Excellent What an epic tale, it is a story that I cannot get enough of and was sad to see it end. Without a doubt, it is a masterpiece of it's own kind; an original of sorts, while appealing to the all too common themes I have already seen. The ending does tie all off all loose ends, yet leaves me wondering and wanting for more. If you have the time, this is a must see series.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Good This series had me motivated because it had drawn me into liking the series so much I was curious as to how it would end; I was expecting something dramatic and moving that would set me off my rocker. It ended up being a series of philosophical questions that one could ponder on any given day with enough free time. It's like trying to beat you over the head with it-which I did not appreciate. I fully support having messages in anime, but the ones depicted at the end of NGE seemed difficult to grasp-I don't want to feel like I'm in a philosophy class while I'm watching anime. If I wanted that, I'd go take one so I can converse with others about it and EVENTUALLY figure it out. I was so disappointed, I docked my rating of this series by 2 levels because it was such a let down. I pray that the movies will satisfy my craving to see an ultimatum. For the first 24 episodes though, it truely was a ride worthy of anyone's time- no genre title can set up ones expectations accurately for Eva. Two thumbs up regarding comedy, action, romance, and dramatic moments.

RahXephon (TV) Masterpiece OK...this is one of the most complex, story driven animes I have ever seen. It's a romance, mecha, and drama rolled into beautiful and detailed anime. It is a bit slower paced, but that's never been a problem for me as long as it has substance. Trust me, to get the full juice out of this one you're going to have to consult outside sources and then you will really understand. It may seem confusing, but that will just lead you to appreciate the story's beauty and complexity once you understand it. Quality series.
