Magus_Melchior's Anime

Recommended Rating Comment
After War Gundam X (TV) Excellent Giant Robots, Newtypes, and a Star Trek-esque voyage on a post-apocalyptic Earth. What could any otaku/weirdo ask for?
... Okay, so it's not the most popular of the Gundam series, there's a lot of angst and thought-provocation, and it wasn't even a completed series. But hey, it's *Gundam*, maaaan. And it's not Double Zeta (and for that matter, the writers aren't the shenanigans doing the current CE series)! At least take a look.
Ah! My Goddess (TV) Excellent Come, see the classic anime rehashed. Just kidding, it's a fairly faithful adaptation of the manga.
... At least, up to volume 5 (with a few tweaks to the plot and characters), unless they do another season.
Aquarion (TV) Masterpiece Although the beginning was weak for a fair number of viewers, the character development, backstory, animation, soundtrack all redeem the relatively slow start, and take the production to new heights. The premise is a classic combining-robot show that would be laughable in live-action (and I cringe to think that a producer may consider such for this show), and the entire cast and crew transform it into something truly spectacular.
Bleach (TV) Excellent Okay, you have a shounen superhero with a big sword and a badass attitude to match. Toss in a bunch of fallen spirits and standard shounen fare, mix well, heat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and serve while smoking. Tastes like Cajun to me. And I like spicy.
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) Excellent So what do you do when you find an old book in your dad's study that opens by itself, and that has a bunch of cards with English on them? Test out your Eigo skills, of course. Not for the diabetic, though; this one gets pretty cutesy.
Cardcaptor Sakura The Movie 2: The Sealed Card Excellent "That was magnificent!" -- Tomoyo
"You even put music in this...?" -- Sakura
Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie Excellent Is it me, or does this seem like an excuse to show CCS fans what Li Syaoran's hometown is like? Oh well. Magic on!
D.C. ~Da Capo~ (TV) Excellent Probably the only dating-game based anime that will ever make my Recommended list. Dating-game anime is hard to do convincingly, because it's so easy to let the plot drag, and to let characters become dull. Da Capo handily avoids this problem by keeping the viewer distracted. But don't worry, the distractions are fun to watch!
Emma: A Victorian Romance (TV) Excellent Okay, I'm a sucker for classical BGMs... No, it's not based on the Hollywood "Emma" movie or the novel that's based on (at least, I don't think it is), so don't try to follow along.
Eureka Seven (TV) Masterpiece Maybe I'm just easily amused ;)
This thing is like a symphony in 50 movements— only in a good way.
Figure 17 (TV) Excellent Take equal parts sci-fi thriller and shoujo schoolkids, combine in a shaker, mix thoroughly, chill and serve. Mmmm... Hokkaido adventure.
His and Her Circumstances (TV) Excellent Evangelion's creator takes the helm and delivers a masterful presentation of the story of a schoolgirl and schoolboy who each put up fronts for their own reasons. Too bad it only had 26 episodes. Another season or at least a commitment to continue to track the manga would have netted this anime a "Masterpiece" rating...
Honey and Clover (TV) Masterpiece Think School Rumble but ~5 years later in life, with the character insanity of Mahoraba, and lots of art...
... Hey, I said it was good, I didn't say it had to be a salad...
Honey and Clover II (TV) Masterpiece
K-ON! (TV) Excellent
Mahoraba ~Heartful days~ (TV) Excellent Insanity meets cuteness meets warmth, and they all do a dance together like a couple.
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Excellent
Midori Days (TV) Excellent Another anime that combines the drama of shoujo with the action and humor of shounen. I strongly suggest that you do NOT drink any liquids while watching, unless of course you do want it shooting from your nose.
My-HiME (TV) Excellent Great fight scenes + (cute simple girl with sword)^2 + sinister plot to rule the world...
ERROR: Buffer overflow.
"Miyu, I told you not to analyze this!"
My-Otome (TV) Excellent Filed under "How to create a 'sequel' without making it look anything like a sequel".
Alyssa Searrs' descendant is now secure. Continuing meaningful-looking meander on the planet.
Record of Lodoss War (OAV) Masterpiece (No, I didn't just go and watch this...!)
The animation, soundtrack, story, characters, and environment combine into a production that has been one of the greatest animes of its time (if not all time), and fantasy anime is measured against this one time and again. (Yeah, it's my opinion. What, you haven't noticed? :)
Rozen Maiden (TV) Excellent It's about a doll that comes to life. No, really. But take this one for a spin with an empty head. You might find it refreshing.
School Rumble (TV) Excellent You want baka? I GOT YER BAKA RIGHT HERE!!
Starship Operators (TV) Excellent So your home government surrenders to an interstellar superpower, and you're aboard a ship full of cadets who's just been ordered to stand down. No commissions, and said superpower happens to be an interstellar bully as well... Hey, why don't we take this baby for a spin?
Stellvia (TV) Excellent In a story where one would expect the question to be, "Can humanity survive the impending catastrophe?", I found myself asking, "Can Shipon make it through without crumbling?"
Uta∽Kata (TV) Excellent It strikes me, when people are offered power greater than their own, they often choose to use it selfishly... We would all like to have greater insight, more information, and power beyond our strengths. The question then may be, should it become available, how would we use it?
Uta∽Kata (OAV) Excellent
