Agent Aika (OAV) Good
Ah! My Goddess (TV) Excellent When I first signed up for Netflix to see more anime without breaking my wallet like I had in the past, this was the first anime to pop in my mind for some reason. One of the first laid back shows I've enjoyed, mainly because I LOVE BELLDANDY. I love Urd too. So I'm conflicted in deciding who I like best. I hate you Keiichi.
Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy (TV) Excellent
AIKa R-16: Virgin Mission (OAV) Good
Air Gear (TV) Very good
Basilisk (TV) Very good
Berserk (TV 1997) Masterpiece For some reason, I avoided seeing this for years. Best friend spoke very highly of it, so I rented it recently. By the time I saw Gatsu take on 100 men, I knew this had to be in my collection. Incredible anime, and the music is absolutely wonderful (in show music, like Berserk Forces and Gats, NOT THE OPENING, lol).
Black Lagoon (TV) Masterpiece Great anime for us adults that like a little weight to their shows. Loved the English cast and the theme of modern day pirates taking on missions in today's landscape. Got a little weird on me in one episode during the Second Barrage season, but overall one of my favorite new series.
Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage (TV) Excellent
Bleach (TV) Excellent
Bleach the Movie: Memories of Nobody Very good
Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion (movie 2) Excellent
Burst Angel (TV) Good
(Le) Chevalier D'Eon (TV) Very good Liked the show, but for some reason I could never fully get into it.
Chrono Crusade (TV) Very good Saw a few episodes of this on Encore's old anime block and liked it a lot. The throwback to the roaring 20s like atmosphere was a cool idea for an anime. Plus it also had one of my favorite voice actresses, Hillary Haag, doing the lead female character. I heart her :) I'll never like the ending, but it was fitting.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV) Masterpiece Ever month I got a NewType USA, I'd always see a ton of Code Geass character's in the most popular lists. When it finally was shown on Adult Swim, I could see why. Awesome show! And it did something I rarely see sometimes, and that's end the show perfectly! Looking forward to the season sets so I can own this series.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (TV) Excellent
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Masterpiece What more can be said about Cowboy Bebop that hasn't already been said? Incredible show! Oh yeah-Wendy Lee, I will love you forever <3
Coyote Ragtime Show (TV) Very good Decent show, but I paid WAAAAY too much for it at a local anime store. Me trying to show support to the store buying 3 dvds at $30 a pop has left me with an unfair dislike for the show. I'll get over it someday...I think.
Divergence Eve (TV) So-so
Dragon Ball GT (TV) Good Never liked the way this series started out; did not like the idea of kid goku's return. Bought DVDs from Baby saga to completion. Biggest highlight was finally being able to see SSJ4 Gojeta on TV instead of that small, poor quality avi file that I hung onto for years.
Dragon Ball Z (TV) Masterpiece I feared entering the DVDs I owned for this on this site, and for good reason; I own every singular dual language disc (Captain Ginyu-Assault thru Kid Buu-A New Beginning) and of course it's a nightmare trying to work through that damn DVD listing. And I completely blame Funi for it. The incoherent release schedules, multiple re-releases and the whole remastering fiasco...it's enough to drive anyone crazy. I also bought the Dragon Box vol. 1 because I never owned the earlier episodes (i wouldn't buy the pioneer dub only DVDs, and I REFUSED to even consider the remastered sets), which is the best of all their releases over the years, especially for the true hardcore fans of the show like myself. So Funi will most likely get deep in my pockets for this series YET AGAIN. My love for this show is deep and it is old, filibustering and all. This series lead me to a local anime store for the first time, and once I saw it in Japanese, I never went back to the dub. The ridicule this show received lead me to broaden my horizons and watch many different genres, so this show basically lead to me loving anime wholeheartedly.
Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone (movie 1) Very good
Eiken (OAV) Very good
Fairy Tail (TV) Excellent Awesome Shonen show! Its weird that I actually wished this show had some filler, because they move on from one arc to the next at lightning speed, and I dont want them to get caught up to the manga! But if they use filler the way Bleach does, I take it back >:(
Fate/stay night (TV) Very good Whenever I think about this series, I'm reminded of when Geneon shut down. I quickly bought many series I had seen at a premium when they announced their shut down, but I payed for it most for Fate/Stay Night. What stands out the most is buying vol. 4 for over $40 on ebay for a new disc. Then Funi came and re-released it, lol. Still never watched the disc I bought yet either.
Full Metal Panic! (TV) Excellent
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV) Very good
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Masterpiece Wonderful anime! I never understood why this of all shows needed a retelling of the story. I never read the manga, so I'm in the dark on how much this anime left out, but it was wonderful to me as it was. I heard a few of the differences between this and Brotherhood, so I will finally have to check out the retelling to see if it can compare to the original.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa Masterpiece
GaoGaiGar: King of the Braves (TV) Excellent Saw the trailer on the Voltron sets for this show and laughed it off. Rented it via Netflix and was hooked INSTANTLY. This giant robot show is AWESOME! It's second only to Voltron, which has a nostalgia factor that can't be overcome. Great action, and it has one of the most incredible English cast ever. The Japanese cast is just as incredible! Great anime!
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV) Excellent This show owns the record for the most times I've had to rewind a few seconds/minutes during the episodes to make sure I caught what was going on. This is a thinker's anime, one that actually forces me to pay attention and not do two things at once or I'll miss something, lol. Great show, and the Major rocks.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (movie) Excellent
Girl's High (TV) Good
Girls Bravo (TV) Very good Thanks Geneon for shutting down. Another fear of out of print purchase, but I actually enjoyed this show when I rented it. Still unopened, but I'll get to it sometime.
Godannar (TV) Excellent The ADV trailer for this completely sold me on the show. Giant robots: check. Fan service: check. Hot action and a lot of yelling of moves: OKAY! I loved this show, good action with a fun story that didn't take itself too seriously at times. Also, there's of jiggly moments, lol.
Golden Boy (OAV) Excellent
Gravion (TV) Good
Gravion Zwei (TV) Very good
Gunslinger Girl (TV) Excellent Love the english female cast for this show. Absolutely love them and the characters. This lead me to buy my first manga books.
Gurren Lagann (TV) Masterpiece I waited a long time for this show. Was gonna get it when ADV had the rights to it, then I waited for the english/japanese bandai releases. I wanted to strangle myself for not watching this sooner. This one is BEYOND MASTERPIECE. The extreme high then extreme low emotions I felt watching episode 8 is something I'll never forget. This is one of the few shows that will NEVER be lent out to ANYONE (my precious!). A must see show, a must buy for mecha/shounen lovers.
Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor (TV) So-so
Hanaukyo Maid Team: La Verite (TV) Good This show was good in the beginning, but lost me towards the end. Seemed like the anime quality dropped off in some episodes, and it was enough to make me lower my opinion on it. BUT Geneon closing resulted in a purchase. Still unopened for now.
He Is My Master (TV) Very good I remember reading about this one in NewType USA (RIP :'( ) and thought the premise was hilarious. A pervy kid who hires two gals to be his maids, and the anime never takes itself serious. LOVED IT! This was the first show that I strictly got the manga volumes and read them way before I ever saw the anime. Sucks the couple behind the manga split up, thus ending the manga. But that's life.
Hell Girl (TV) Excellent Excellent show! It hit on a lot of themes of revenge, which I was all for, especially for certain jack asses. But what surprised me was the wonderful voice acting from the English dub team. Hearing one of my favorites, Luci Christian, lose it the way she did threw me for a loop! I loved the dub work for this show, which will lead to the following rant. I am still highly upset that the latter seasons of this show didn't have any localized dubbing*. I know the new company born from ADVs ashes probably didn't want to fork over a lot of money for this series, but COME ON. I hate to say it, but I wished Funimation would've kept the license. I'll probably watch this someday, but for now I'm still on strike. *For the record, over 95.9% of the anime I watch is with Japanese language/English subtitles. But I still like to hear my English voice actors do their jobs. I love many of them and will ALWAYS respect their work.
Ikki Tousen (TV) Very good The closest I've ever got to hentai, lol. Mostly for my pervy needs, but actually has some good fighting scenes to boot. Wasn't high on Dragon's Destiny, but Great Guardians and Xtreme Xecutor won me back. The first season rivals Queen's Blade for the most perverted anime I've seen without making me cross the Hentai line (Yes, I don't watch Hentai).
Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny (TV) Good
Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians (TV) Very good
Ikki Tousen: Xtreme Xecutor (TV) Very good
Inuyasha (TV) Excellent Love the art, music, setting and characters for this series. This is one of those shows where I can put 5 disc in my dvd player and be happy for a very long time. I never had an issue with the filler, but I just wished the show got its proper ending (which it did so many years later). Too bad the English cast didn't get to redub the Final Act :(
InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time Very good
KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple (TV) Excellent One of my favorite shonen views of 2009 & 2010. Loved this anime! To see a character go from wimp to a kick ass machine via hardcore training made for a great watch. I am still baffled that this never got continued past the first two seasons :(
Kiddy Grade (TV) Good
Koihime Musō (TV) Excellent
Love Hina (TV) Very good
Love Hina Again (OAV) Very good
Love Hina Spring Special - I Wish Your Dream Very good
Love Hina X'mas Special - Silent Eve Very good
Lucky Star (TV) Excellent I wasn't sure if I was otaku enough to enjoy this show. Hell, I still don't know if I am. But I know that I enjoyed it anyway! Wendy Lee, Michelle Ruff, and Kari Wahlgren: I love you all <3
Maburaho (TV) Good
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Excellent Got this show purely off of hype, even went as far as to buying the expensive special edition sets that contained the TV broadcast order disc. Worth every dollar :)
Mobile Fighter G Gundam (TV) Excellent What's this? They made a Gundam show with heavy shonen themes such as yelled out finishing moves and over the top action? With giant mechas and loads of campiness? SOLD! Many may not like this show, but I F'in loved it! Gundam fight set. Ready? GOOOOOOO!
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (TV) Excellent The first anime series I bought the imported version of at least a year before its US debut. This was the second Gundam series I saw at that point, behind Gundam Wing. I enjoyed it, bad subtitles and all, and didn't waste any time getting the official US release.
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny (TV) Very good
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (TV) Masterpiece My introduction to the world of Gundam, all thanks to Toonami. Seeing the edited then uncut versions of Heero's chilling line to Relena ("I'm going to kill you") knocked me off my feet at the time. Absolutely loved this series, and it introduced me into a grand world that is Gundam.
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (TV) Masterpiece When it comes to my Gundam series viewings, I am assed backwards. Started with Wing, Seed, G, then I finally saw Zeta. To say I didn't know the weight this series carried is a HUGE understatement. What an incredible show. Main characters aren't safe in this one AT ALL. After seeing this, I could understand why some Gundam fans couldn't stand the non UC series. I like them all as separate entities, but the UC story lines are something to behold.
My-HiME (TV) Very good
Naruto Shippūden (TV) Excellent
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Excellent
Ninja Scroll (movie) Excellent
One Piece (TV 1999) Masterpiece During a lunch break on May 25, 2010, I finally decided to check out an episode of One Piece on Hulu. It didn't take long for me to get hooked, as I watched 1-453 in approximately 3 WEEKS. I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! It has sparked my love for shonen anime more than any show to date. The yelling I do as I watch it just proves that I am crazy, and that I'm completely in love with One Piece :)
Perfect Blue (movie) Very good Perfect Blue. When I first saw it, I hated it. Condemned it even. A few years later I rewatched it, and really enjoyed it. Guess my maturity level just needed to be higher for me to grasp how good of an anime this was.
Princess Mononoke (movie) Masterpiece Bought this on a whim, not knowing anything about Miyazaki. Paid $30 for it, and its worth a million times that. Priceless anime.
Queen's Blade 2: The Evil Eye (TV) Very good
Queen's Blade: The Exiled Virgin (TV) Very good Two words: smoky nipples. Wait! Two more words: snake thong. Wait! err I can go on and on. One of the most pervy animes I've ever seen. I gave it the crown for top perv show, but then rewatched the first season of Ikki Tousen. Now I don't know which is more over the top. Smoky nipples.
Ramen Fighter Miki (TV) Very good
Robotech (U.S. TV) Excellent
Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles (U.S. OAV) Very good
Rurouni Kenshin (TV 1996) Excellent
Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection (OAV) Decent
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal (OAV) Excellent
Samurai Champloo (TV) Masterpiece
Shin Koihime Musō (TV) Excellent
Spice and Wolf (TV) Very good (dub & sub)
Spirited Away (movie) Masterpiece I put off seeing this for awhile. Watched it while really not wanting to watch it...was having a bad day. This movie changed everything! I ended up hitting every emotion I could possibly have. Incredible movie!
Street Fighter Alpha (OAV) Very good
Street Fighter II V (TV) Good Bought every volume for this via VHS for some reason. Finally broke down and got DVD set to free up shelf space. Way too much was spent for this series, lol.
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie Very good
(The) Super Dimension Fortress Macross (TV) Excellent
Suzuka (TV) Good okay show, but it made me hate these teenager slice of life romance shows. The lead guy is a jerk to girl he should've been in love with, not the chick who blew him off. Poor Honoka. Go to hell Yamato!
Tenjho Tenge (TV) Good Bought this due to fear of Geneon shut down. Paid $90 for it...looking back at it, that announcement almost put me in the poor house, lol. Fighting & fan service was good, but super long flashback segment & no true closure leaves this anime lacking.
Vampire Hunter D (OAV) Excellent Saw this in the early 90s on Sci-Fi's old Japanimation block. Was then, and is still now one of the more VIOLENT animes that I've ever seen. Damn good.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (movie) Good
(The) Vision of Escaflowne (TV) Very good
Voltron (TV) Masterpiece Forever my favorite cartoon/anime of all time. Nostalgia factor for this show is infinitely high.
Witchblade (TV) Very good
Yu Yu Hakusho The Movie: Poltergeist Report (movie 2/1994) Very good Saw this via Blockbuster, so this was early into my anime fix. Didn't even know it was based on a tv series. Was good, and gave me one of my all time favorite quotes, but the english cast wasn't up to par with the tv series.
Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files (TV) Excellent In one of the DBZ singles I bought (clue!) I got a freebie disc with the first episode of Yu Yu Hakusho on it. When they killed off the main character in the first episode, I was hooked, lol. So I ended up buying this series via singles, as I did every dual language DBZ DVD. In other words, Funimation and Amazon loved me for it. This was worth it :)
