Ai Yori Aoshi (TV) Good Typical “lovey-dovey” anime, goes through all the awkward and embarrassing phases of a relationship, has some comedy and fan-service; a general “feel-good” storyline
Ai Yori Aoshi ~Enishi~ (TV) Good
Basilisk (TV) Decent Creative ideas, decent action, not exactly great plot though but not bad either
Black Blood Brothers (TV) Very good Interesting if not original ideas, decent character development, pretty good action sequences, funny on occasion
Black Cat (TV) Good Beginning was a little disappointing, it was pretty funny at times, promoted friendship etc, not a bad anime altogether
Black Lagoon (TV) Very good Some cool action scenes, character development, and a cover of comedy that brings it together nicely
Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage (TV) Very good
Blood+ (TV) Decent A typical anime, I didn’t particularly like any characters as they were too passive, the concept was good but I’ll be honest – I only watched it all because I was pretty bored
Canvas 2 - Niji Iro no Sketch (TV) Not really good A semi-typical relationship anime with a love triangle or two and plenty of drama, funny in the beginning, long later on, but for me I disliked the end and wouldn’t recommend it
Chrono Crusade (TV) Very good I’d say the action isn’t necessarily the best, but it is funny and it gets touching
Clannad (TV) Good Similar to Kanon in characteristics of people, decent plot development, but not the best timing, decently funny, some dramatic revelations about the past to spice things up
Claymore (TV) Decent This was a very typical anime, not really good, not really bad, but others have really liked it, I’d recommend it as a starter anime so you can be more impressed by the better ones
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV)
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Masterpiece First anime I ever saw, and still a favorite (re-watched several times), also one of the best soundtracks
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie Very good
Darker than Black (TV) Very good It has a unique style that I like - throwing you into the middle of the action and giving hints as to the rest
Death Note (TV) Excellent Extremely intense by the second episode, it had me wishing I was as smart as these characters; though I’ll admit that the second half was not nearly as good as the first, but I’d watch it all anyway
Elfen Lied (TV) Good Interesting ideas presented, but follows semi-typical love-triangle pattern, some nudity and graphic violence, not exactly a plot to get excited over, but not a bad one either
(The) Familiar of Zero (TV) Very good Funny, but embarrassing at times, it gets cooler a few episodes in, similar to Shakugan no Shana
(The) Familiar of Zero: Knight of the Twin Moons (TV) Very good
Fate/stay night (TV) Decent Kind of cheesy, shounen style fighting and distinction between good and bad guys, decent plot and revelations in the beginning; however the ending was pretty disappointing
FLCL (OAV) Decent Plot doesn’t really matter (one of the worst plots I’ve ever seen) but I have to admit it is extremely funny at times, some love this anime, some hate it
Full Metal Panic! (TV) Masterpiece A lot of comedy with fighting and futuristic technology mixed in; still maintained the feel-good sense about it
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV) Excellent
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (OAV) Very good
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) Excellent
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Good This was a fun anime, takes a bit more to figure out though, a good one for fans of Naruto and Bleach
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa Good
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV) Very good Quite awesome action sequences and effects, worth watching just for that
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG (TV) Very good
Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun (TV) Decent Basically made for the fan-service, this was fairly funny, but it didn’t have much plot (at least for the first half of the season)
Gungrave (TV) Decent Mostly about crime and friendship, with some decent shootout scenes, and a dash of life lessons
H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~ (TV) Decent Decently entertaining, good character development, though unrealistic scenarios were presented, was fairly good except they really didn’t do that good of a job on the end
Haibane Renmei (TV) Decent Delves a lot into friendship, has a semi-annoying main character, just generally is a slow anime, but there is some good character development and revelations
Hell Girl (TV) Good Reminiscent of Kino no Tabi, but it avoided the feeling of finding out about the protagonist until near the end of the first season, very repetitive and plot doesn’t develop for a while, but it’s good if you need a slow relaxing anime, and it has some phrases that stick in the mind
Hellsing (TV) Very good Alucard is the coolest guy ever, the anime is kind of funny in addition to the fights, also some insight into society
Higurashi no Naku Koroni Gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen (OAV) Excellent
Innocent Venus (TV) Decent Very mediocre anime, characters were fairly flat, some cool fight scenes both normal and using mechs
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu (OAV) Decent Very weird, not all questions are answered or explained, interesting ideas, creative way of presenting the storyline, but kind of unfulfilling at the end
Kanon (TV 2/2006) Very good Started out with some really good dry humor through the first several episodes, kind of went downhill from there, but it got really into meaning of life and the value of relationships
Karin (TV) Very good A nice relationship anime with a twist that makes it interesting and funny
KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple (TV) Good Series didn’t start off well, but the character development was fun to watch, occasionally funny, occasional fan service, occasionally ridiculous; but definitely entertaining
Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de (TV) Decent Basically only slapstick humor and fan service, but it tries; the whole servant-master relationship is at least a more unique subcategory of the harem stereotype that is slightly less overused
Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (movie) Excellent
Kino's Journey (TV) Excellent I’m still not sure why, but I really liked this kind of slow paced anime; must be the insight into people it gives
Kino's Travels: Life Goes On (movie) Masterpiece
Kurau: Phantom Memory (TV) Decent The actual animation wasn’t great, but the superpower was pretty cool; delves a lot into friendship and morality, but still has some fun action scenes
Kurenai (TV) Very good I don’t normally go for the slice of life genre, but this one was very good at pulling the viewer into the story with the sincerity of the characters; no real overacting was done, and the character development over time was a real plus; good amount of drama too
Lunar Legend Tsukihime (TV) Good Very interesting because of variations on typical theme of vampires, decent character development (though certain characters are annoyingly slow), well done explanations through anachronistic sequences, as well as the occasional good and gory scene
Maburaho (TV) Decent Follows the typical pattern of harem anime, with just enough situational changes to make things a bit interesting, it kind of dragged on after a while though
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Very good Somewhat hard to understand because the episodes go all out of chronological order (but still watch in order produced), pretty funny, some fan-service, didn’t get too much into relationships but more into fate philosophy, there was a nice touch with the laid-back main character; a fairly unique anime all around
Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit (TV) Very good The first thing that caught me was the excellent job done on graphics; it’s a good all-around anime, decent plot, good character development, nice action sequences, some indirect philosophy on life and society, and a bit of magic
Mushi-Shi (TV) Good Very slow, but nicely relaxing; just kind of a feel-good anime for most of the episodes
Nodame Cantabile (TV) Good This was fairly funny, pretty original, and not too in depth into relationships; because of the semi-unique theme of music the plot sometimes changes unexpectedly; I suppose if I liked classical music I would have enjoyed this anime more
Ouran High School Host Club (TV) Decent Laugh-out-loud funny at some parts, tiresome at others, little character development, but they do reveal some character depth, it definitely has its moments
Outlaw Star (TV) So-so This was the only anime I watched dubbed because I couldn’t find the sub which probably caused me to not like it for the most part; not a surprising plot, but semi-creative ideas
Please Teacher! (TV) Very good Very funny, some good fan-service, and a nice feel
Please Teacher! (OAV) Very good
Please Twins! (TV) Good Funny, almost as good as Onegai Teacher, but just didn’t have the extra laugh, fan-service was nice, if you liked Teacher watch this one
Please Twins! (OAV) Good
Princess Resurrection (TV) Very good Mediocre animation, minimal plot, and lack of character development, but in all seriousness, none of that mattered; I found it hilarious, in a kind of twisted way; just watch the ending credits (with subs) and you’ll see what I mean
Pumpkin Scissors (TV) Decent Very cool action sequences (though very unrealistic), sometimes funny, has certain feel-good moments, lacked a bit on the characters though
R.O.D -The TV- Good Goes into the sisterly bonds a bit much, but still fun for the creativity
Rosario + Vampire (TV) So-so Take the most stereotypical harem anime you’ve ever seen, then double it; there was absolutely nothing original about the anime, and at least the first 10 episodes were made purely for the fan service, funny occasionally though
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal (OAV) Good Lots of blood and violence, interesting character development, not exactly a hard plot to guess, but not too bad with twists
Samurai Champloo (TV) Very good Directed by the same guy as Cowboy Bebop it had similar character styles, cool fighting sequences (especially if you like break-dancing), hardly any plot though
Shakugan no Shana (TV) Very good It’s funny with decent action, some fan-service, and interesting plot; similar to Zero no Tsukaima (but better)
Shakugan no Shana Second (TV) Very good
Shakugan no Shana SP: Koi to Onsen no Kōgai Gakushū! (OAV) Good
Shuffle! (TV) Decent Begins as a very typical, but entertaining, harem anime, but moves on with enough twists and revelations to keep it interesting
Sola (TV) Good A good mix of the three categories (Philosophical, Fantasy, and Relationships) with some classic and some unique aspects to it; I liked the beginning better than the end, but it’s worth watching through
Spice and Wolf (TV) Excellent The unique theme and the good amount of dry humor contributed a good deal to my opinion of this anime, but my favorite part is that the characters were always smart and making intelligently based decisions (similar to Kino no Tabi and Death Note in that respect)
This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (TV) So-so This had an interesting idea for a basis and could have possibly been pretty decent if it hadn’t decided to devote the majority of the anime to fan service and typical relationship anime pitfalls, not great animation, some nudity, occasionally funny
Tide-Line Blue (TV) Decent An easy anime, not difficult to understand, dumb-funny in some parts, semi-deep thinking in others (human nature); enjoyable but not great
Tokyo Majin (TV) Very good Pretty neat fighting sequences, kind of confusing (threw you into middle of action then went back to explain), but I saw that as a good point, characters are cool
Trigun (TV) Masterpiece Along the same vein as Cowboy Bebop, this takes a little to get into it; still I really enjoyed it and re-watched it several times
Trinity Blood (TV) Very good The priest gets really cool at times, other times it’s just funny, worth checking out
Utawarerumono (TV) Good Nicely moving plot, introduces new characters at good times, brings up revelations about the past at others, cool fighting sequences and a “feel-good” theme on occasion
Utawarerumono (OAV) So-so
Vandread (TV) Decent Mostly childish, big into mechs, and had a lot of attempts at meaning and philosophy using cliché phrases, but the whole setup was kind of interesting
Vandread: The Second Stage (TV) Decent
Venus to Mamoru (TV) Decent Really, really dumb humor; if you’re bored then it’s entertaining, otherwise it’s just tiring, no real plot to speak of, minimal character development, classic relationship problems crop up, but it has a whole feel-good attitude
When They Cry - Higurashi (TV) Masterpiece Most freaky anime I’ve ever seen, and by far the best; for greatest effect, watch the first four episodes in a row, alone, past midnight, with the lights off - you will be hooked forever
When They Cry - Kai (TV) Masterpiece
Witch Hunter Robin (TV) Excellent This was awesome, it had me from the opening theme (which by the way is freaking sick), great job with characters, special effects, some plot twists; the plot itself was a little lacking
Yamibo - Darkness, the Hat, and the Travelers of the Books (TV) Excellent Quite the mix of themes: philosophy, fighting, relationships, and comedy, all set on a background of fantasy; between a good and a best anime, but the opening theme and the last couple episodes pushed to the best category
Zombie-Loan (TV) Decent Fairly typical wimpy girl protagonist, goes annoyingly far into a bishounen theme, but occasionally funny, interesting plot basis, and not too long
