Combines a bad, unlikable cast with terrible writing that effectively saw any character development stopped dead in it's tracks once the old cast stole the show. Rehashed animation at every possible place it could, in some cases copying entire sequences from past episodes. Combine this with no less than 4 full flashback episodes, out of the series 50, you have to wonder where the budget went. It definitely didn't go into the script, which turned out to be a bad plot point recycle of Zeta and Seed's later half.
It's pretty much a train wreck for the last 2/3s of the series. |

| My-Otome (TV) | Decent | This is how you trainwreck a franchise, seriously. Running off the success of Mai-HiME, My-Otome takes most of the characters from the original series, and remakes them into poor imitations of their former selves. Throw in two grating main characters, numerous crappy devices for nothing more than an excuse for lesbian fanservice and a general patronizing "plot" that takes far too long to get off the ground.
Edit: And it's funny what actually watching the full series will do to your opinion of it. After 15 episodes of pandering around, the plot started going places and things got good. Not excellent, but rather good. Still tried too hard with the humour in serious situations, which made for some really bad mood-whiplash. Ending was more satisfying and "right" than HiME's ending, even if it had as much cheese and deus ex as the first. |
