5 Centimeters Per Second (movie) Masterpiece
This movie is more than a masterpiece, it's a piece of artwork. The stories are brilliantly placed together in a menagerie of soft sadness. This is, above almost any anime (or non-anime I have seen), one of the best stories in my collection. I recommend it to everyone, whether an avid otaku or even those who barely know what anime is.
Aa Megami-sama: Tatakau Tsubasa (special) Very good
A very charming special to the Ah! My Goddess franchise. For those fans of the series, this is definitely worth watching.
Aeon Flux (live-action movie) So-so
This movie didn't really make sense to me the first time around. The second time I saw it, I understood it. I found the story to be a little overdone (I'd seen similar too many times before), but it was executed in an exotic way and I "got used to it" after seeing it more than once. Still not on my high list of anime.
Ah! My Goddess (TV) Excellent
I love this anime. I've always been a big fan of the pure, innocent, and soft-hearted things in life so this really appealed to me. This version of the show follows the manga more accurately, which was a pleasant turn of events. It's very funny, very cute, and very innocent. It flows fairly well - though a lot of the stand-alone episodes are somewhat clunky - yet still maintains its general continuity.
Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy (TV) Excellent
The sequel is just as good as the original season. It delves into some of the slightly darker sides of Belldandy and Keiichi, which was refreshing - yet maintained that air of innocent love that I cherish.
Ah! My Goddess: The Movie Excellent
Not quite as good as its later 2005 TV version, this doesn't follow any definitive part of the manga but takes various elements that were briefly mentioned therein, and makes a movie out of it. It's certainly entertaining and the anime style is fairly typical for the time. There aren't any "awesome" cinematics, but it doesn't need any.
Air (TV) Masterpiece
I know that it's becoming more popular to try and trash this anime, but I find it to be simply marvelous. It's beautiful in every aspect - in the drawing, the flow of the story, the depth and intrigue of the characters, and in the final conclusion. It takes a lot to reduce me to tears, and Air did just that. I was bawling like a little child at the end. It left a definite impression upon my heart that I have never forgotten. This is a masterpiece.
Another Lady Innocent (OAV) Good
This hentai is somewhat... rustic and bizarre. In a world where plantations in the 1800s exist and all the maids enjoy giving the masters sex, it is very well-animated but lacks a storyline altogether. Still, it makes up for this enough with both graphics and continuity, as well as softness of character that the soft-core hentai lovers may enjoy.
Appleseed (movie) Decent
While a worthy attempt at making another CG movie (and it did succeed in utilizing an unusual style of 3D animation), the storyline was pretty stock and the characters didn't have as much depth as they could have.
Beast Wars: Transformers (U.S. TV) Decent
I was a big fan of Beast Wars when I was a kid. Back then I would've rated it Excellent, but as time drags on and I think back to it, I realize that it was only decent in terms of storyline and animation. Regardless, it still remains one of my childhood favorites and any kid who wants to see it is encouraged to.
Bible Black (OAV) Good
Bible Black is the hentai that really defines the entire genre. Anytime somebody thinks about hentai, the first thing that comes to mind is this. The animation is well-done, the storyline is fairly good, and it certainly lives up to its namesake.
Bible Black Origins (OAV) Good
Having seen the original, this prequel added depth to the story that I hadn't seen before. It has the same quality and style that the original did.
Bible Black: New Testament (OAV) Good
The sequel is every bit as good as the original and the prequel.
Bleach (TV) Very good
Bleach is like Naruto and the two can sort of be compared, since they're both very popular "ninja"-type anime. Bleach happens to be slightly better than Naruto in my opinion because it hasn't had entire filler series that are utterly pointless fluff. Even the Bounto filler was entertaining and reasonable. All in all, Bleach has remained pretty consistent in its storyline. The fights are awesome, though I'm a bit concerned that Bleach is starting to head Naruto's direction in the sense that it is relying too much on the long, drawn-out silent angst as characters stare at each other - which is designed to fill space since the animators obviously aren't trying quite as hard as they used to.
Bleach the Movie: Memories of Nobody Very good
I thought that this was a very good OAV for Bleach. I almost wanted Senna to become a part of the main Bleach storyline, given how charming she was.
Bleach: Memories in the Rain (OAV) Weak
This was quite literally a mishmash recap of episodes I'd already seen watching the series. I don't even understand why it's considered an OAV. Anyone who has seen the series has seen almost everything inside this OAV, so it was a big waste of time to watch it.
Bleach: The Sealed Sword Frenzy (OAV) Good
Not quite as good as some of the other OAVs out there, it nevertheless has a decent - albeit straightforward - storyline.
Chobits (TV) Very good
Chobits is a very cute series for people who enjoy robot girls that are innocent and a bit naive. The storyline was enjoyable.
Chobits (OAV) Good
Chrono Crusade (TV) So-so
I was fairly disappointed with Chrono Crusade. The storyline was hard to deal with, speaking as a Christian, and I found a lot of holes in the plot to undercut the anime. I didn't like the ending, either.
Claymore (TV) Excellent
This is one of the few anime thus far that has kept me up all day and all night long just to watch the entire show in one sitting. It's that good. While it's not Masterpiece quality, Medieval fantasy-type themes are one of my top three favorites, likely my most favorite. The storyline was brilliantly executed, with each character having very interesting back-stories. What pulled me in the most was the fact that each episode had something new. I was never, ever bored. This is one of the kings of the action genre. Heavily recommended.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV) Very good
This is an exemplary anime designed like a chess game, complete with futuristic mecha and an intriguing storyline. Revenge seems to be the central 'emotion'. However, I cannot compare it to certain other anime out there that are simply better - such as Death Note or Last Exile - because they have a certain "quality" about them that renders Code Geass into the Very Good category.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (TV) Excellent
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie Very good
D.Gray-man (TV) Very good
At first glance, this series appears to be an "alternative" to Naruto and Bleach; and it is, in a superficial sense. For a long, ongoing series though, it does the opposite of what Bleach and Naruto have done - instead of getting worse as time drags on, it gets better. Couple this with the (somewhat skewed and skewered) premise based upon the book of Genesis in the Bible, and you have yourself an intriguing scenario in which main characters appear, you grow attached to them, and then they DIE. And no, they don't come back. In addition to this, the story is continuous. There is hardly a fluff episode and as the story drags on, it gets increasingly more perilous and more interesting. The first few episodes may be a bit difficult to slog through, but it's definitely worth it.
D.N.Angel (TV) Good
This is one of my favorite anime, even if it isn't the best in the world. I enjoy angels so I naturally take an affinity to Dark. Diasuke is very cute and nice, his parents & grandfather are funny, and the romantic quality makes me smile.
ef: a tale of memories (TV) Masterpiece
I am a journalist and political science double-major. My job is to sit and analyze things, run them through my head, and connect the dots. So when I say that this anime's beautiful, wonderful ending caught me by surprise - I want you to know my full meaning. While the bulk of "a tale of memories" is very sad and almost depressing, the ending explodes into such a beautiful realization about the nature of life and God that I wanted to pump my fists and praise the Lord. The story is stunning beyond words.
Elfen Lied (TV) Excellent
This is a bloody and disturbing anime, yet it's strangely punctuated by long periods of cute innocence that keep you thrown off-guard. Just when you think that things might go well, they turn upside-down, and vice versa. The characters seemed mildly stock to me in their appearances and their mannerisms, but the storyline is intriguing and worthwhile.
Elfen Lied (OAV) Good
Elven Bride (OAV) Good
This is a slapstick and comedic little hentai that's something of a cult classic among those who enjoy both fantasy and porn. While not the best quality in anime by a long stretch, it's amusing enough to keep one's interest and has some particularly funny parts that made me laugh a bit.
Fate/stay night (TV) Good
This anime had something analogous to a Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh feel to it, yet managed to retain its dignity compared to the former two without sinking into the morass of .. well, mass commercialism. I didn't really understand how King Arthur was supposed to be a girl and it still non-plusses me, but the rest of it is a good, solid combat-oriented anime.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie) Good
Originally intended to be something of a 10-minute clip, the idea was eventually extended to make FFVII into a fully-fledged movie. For a CGI movie, it was pretty brilliant. However, unless you understand the full context of the relationship between the characters, it leaves you feeling utterly lost, with a giant "?" over your head. But at least you can enjoy the awesome fight scenes and cheesy dialogue, right?
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (US CG movie) So-so
As one of the first attempts to create a CGI anime movie in the United States, this was an abysmal failure. I saw this one in the theatre with my parents and all three of us left wondering what the Hell we'd just seen. The concept of Gaia is a severely foreign concept to most Westerners and the execution of the movie, while admirable in the quality of CGI and attempt at a storyline, was ultimately unfilfilling.
Full Metal Panic! (TV) Bad (sub), Excellent (dub)
FMP is one of the few anime that I've enjoyed dubbed more than subbed. For some reason, the original Japanese voices grate on my nerves and are particularly hard to tolerate. The American dubbers did an excellent job of making their voices likeable, memorable, and the lip-syncing is good. The storyline itself is amazing, of course, and I ended up buying the thinpack boxset. It's definitely a good addition to any collection.
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Decent
This was a series I thought might rival Naruto and Bleach in terms of long-term quality and enjoyability, but the ending made me roll my eyes and toss it in the trash. Suffice to say, it's pretty good up until the end - and then suddenly, it's a total letdown with no real resolution in sight.
G-spot Express (OAV) Excellent
This seedy and somewhat dark hentai exposes a disturbing side of city life in Japan that I had never thought of before. This aside, it was riveting. For a hentai, it has an intriguing storyline that's both realistic and sensible, set in the bulk in the seats of a tram car. I actually ended up learning several slang terms for what people call what they do, which makes me cringe - but at least I can say I learned something.
Ghost in the Shell (movie) Good
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV) Excellent
Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun (TV) Good
A cute little bit of fanservice. Pretty stock and standard, but worth seeing.
.hack//SIGN (TV) Good
This was a nice departure from the traditional anime that I'd seen up to the time. The concept of a digital world may not be new, but this particular story reminded me of World of Warcraft and the various MMORPGs in a much more tangible way than some others in the same vein. The storyline was fairly good, though I was severely disappointed in the way it ended. People who love an ongoing "digital MMORPG" storyline and are willing to sit through the rest of the .hack series are recommended to try it.
Hellsing (TV) Good
Hellsing Ultimate (OAV) Good
Heritage From Father (OAV) Awful
Whatever you do, don't bother trying to watch this hentai. The subtitling is truly awful - and by awful, I mean it isn't just done in "Engrish". A lot of the sentences are flat out wrong from what the real translation would be. It's like the subtitler decided to monkey with the text and re-interpret it according to his own wishes of what it would be. That said, the story itself is boring most of the time. The other half of the time, it's disturbing.
Honey and Clover (TV) Masterpiece
Honey and Clover II (TV) Masterpiece
Last Exile (TV) Very good
Maburaho (TV) Very good
Macross Frontier (TV) Masterpiece
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Masterpiece
This is by far one of the best anime to date in terms of its initially subtle, yet gradually-encompassing depth. I initially considered that this would be your typical "happy-time" anime, but it turned out to be a very deep and meaningful philosophical/theological consideration. I recommend it to anyone.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (TV) So-so
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (TV) Very good
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny (TV) Decent
Naruto (TV) Very good
Naruto Shippūden (TV) Very good
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Good
NieA_7 (TV) Not really good
(The) Night When Evil Falls (OAV) Good
Night Wizard The Animation (TV) Good
I went into this anime expecting nothing out of it (considering how many mark it as an "average" anime) and was pleasantly surprised. Though the storyline is very straightforward and the characters were somewhat stock, I found it to be simply charming. There were no glaring errors, no particularly ridiculous things that made me quirk a brow, and the end credits song "Erinyes" by BETTA FLASH is already one of my favorites.
Nymphs of the Stratosphere (OAV) Good
Outlaw Star (TV) Good
Princess Mononoke (movie) Good
RahXephon (TV) Very good
Record of Lodoss War (OAV) Good
Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (TV) Decent
Rune Soldier (TV) Weak
I bought this anime thinking that it might be a refreshing sorcery/knight-style anime. The visuals were certainly appealing, it had received good reviews, and the boxset was cheap. Now I know why. The storyline throughout the entire series is weak at best. The characters are very stock, not much happens to keep the viewer interested, and it only really "picks up" toward the end. But even that is not enough to salvage the series from a disappointing run.

Spiral (TV) So-so
Spirited Away (movie) Excellent
Stepmother's Sin (OAV) Decent
To Love-Ru (TV) Good
Transformers (live-action movie) Very good
True Tears (TV) Good
This one made me want to claw my eyes out because it's so full of emo kids hanging their heads and saying "sorry" all the time. Apparently, the moral of the story is that it's okay to have incestual thoughts about your siblings so long as you stay true to your heart. When the anime isn't having long, agonizing moments of shameful silence, the protagonist is busy being completely confused to a degree that makes me think he's mentally deficient. I rated it "Good" because cinematically it's well done.. but the morals of the story are completely lost and don't make any sense.
Words Worth (OAV) Decent

xxxHOLiC (TV) Excellent
xxxHOLiC: Kei (TV) Excellent

Will not finish
Excel Saga (TV)
I couldn't stand this anime. Though all the visuals were decent, I found the subject matter offensive and repulsive. I don't like random stupidity - I think it's a waste of time - and feeling sick to my stomach after the first episode is a pretty good sign that there's no chance of me watching the rest.
FLCL (OAV)
FLCL is good for people who tend to enjoy insanity in a bottle - and I'm not someone who enjoys random stupidity. Just like Excel Saga, I can't stand anything that has no real storyline or substance. Deep, meaningful composition is not to be found in this anime and I couldn't bring myself to finish it.
