This one is my personal favorite Studio Ghibli film. With a strong adventure story and very good animation (some of it shines even today, especially when you consider that it was all hand-drawn) it's absolutely worth it.
This one is just plain fun... fun to mock! I like this series because it lends itself so well to being teased. Stupid, stupid hilarious fun. :D A 'guilty pleasure' series for me.
With a strong, character-driven story, Hikaru no Go makes the oldest board game on earth become completely fascinating. It's not about the game, though... it's about the people who play it, and it's wonderful.
My absolute favorite anime ever, and one that's way too ignored in American fandom. (SOMEONE, PLEASE LICENSE THIS.) Although the first five or so episodes are a bit slow, soon the pace picks up with twists and turns galore, all of it carrying you through a fantastic adventure story. (The anime is also WAY better than the manga, so give it a try even if the manga's not your favorite - you may find your manga quibbles are solved here!)
Watch it. Watch it. Watch it.
This one is my favorite shoujo anime, and for good reason. It begins as a simple mahou shoujo, but soon evolves into a deep and complex story rich in symbolism and twists galore. With a Germanic dark fairytale feel and a cast of engaging, well-developed characters, this is something you shouldn't miss.
