This is a great show that can appeal to international audiences, not just the Japanese. A testament to what I'm talking about is just how great and adaptable the dub was -- the voice actors were so good, and the general translation seemed to have so much fun with itself, my brother (who is generally very critical of anime, and who took the chance of buying the volume with episode 11 on it, and out of sheer amazement over how good that episode was, ended up buying the rest of the series (back in 2001, they sold them in single R1 DVDs o_o); he ended up loving his first anime in the longest time) and I NEVER watched it subtitled. What for? It was too fun in English to feel required to listen to it in Japanese. More anime needs to move in the direction that this show had -- less shows like Dragon Ball Z, less self-indulgent, fanciful stuff like Gundam Wing. More original characters -- have few if any more archetypes like Ed and Faye, the crazy and loopy *spoilers* girls :) (It's obvious they were tokens so Sunrise would give more money (LOL) and the traditionalists wouldn't get bored). More Japanese adaptations of American/Western ideas. :) Hell, (we) Americans do enough horrible adaptations of their horror films -- they ought to return the favor...^_~ |

The only thing Dragon Ball Z has ever produced that I've managed to like: a straight-forward plot that's nicely animated, characters that don't grate on my nerves, and featuring battles that are exciting and don't drag. Amazing... If only the rest of the series was this tight and well-made. |

The movie some people broke their fan teeth on either in sheer amazement or in perverse curiosity over the general proceedings: this movie is so ridiculously violent. If Ideon: Be Invoked specialized in death and hopelessness in a mass universal scale, this movie does that on a global scale with violence, gore, and rivers of blood and innards. It's not for kids (not for sensitive ones -- I think I originally saw this when I was 12? 11?), it's not for people who require the presence of dominant female roles (Julia's a damsel in distress, OK? That, and Lin is a KID with a FLOWER POT. Oi..), it's not for people who lack appreciation for gratuitous violence (mm..being crushed by a big giant, and having all of your insides displayed smashing against his soles! MMM!! SEXY..o_o), and it's certainly not for types who require a very strong, impressive, straightforward plot. Here's the story: Kenshiro gets jumped by his former friend Shin and his underlings, who take Julia away. Shin decides to leave him for dead. Kenshiro isn't dead. Kenshiro meets up with a couple of kids dub-voiced by Rick Hunter and the 2nd Penny Gadget. Ken looks for Julia, runs into Rei, who can slice and dice anything (including PEOPLE!) with his fingers. Kenshiro looks for Julia, meets up with Jagi. Kenshiro looks for Julia, eventually runs into Raoh, who was running around, PWNing folks because he assumed Ken was dead, or otherwise, too out-of-commission to stop him from taking control of the countryside. Julia escapes from Shin, seems lots of dead corpses from the days of the Apocalypse, gets kidnapped by Raoh. Ken and Roah fight. You see? That's not really a plot -- it's a journal or diary..or something. It's a sequence of events -- there's no REAL goal to be met other than "find Julia." Enjoy the rest of the movie, if you must -- I've said too much, already. Mainly, I enjoy the music and the characters, as well as the general cheesiness and MANLINESS of it all. :D It's crazy -- definitely meant to be enjoyed, though not in an intellectual way -- it's not Be Invoked or End of Evangelion -- you'd be wasting your time. Think of a really enjoyable '80s action film made by a couple of sick minds, instead. That's THIS movie... |

Great, imaginative kids' anime about koalas from another dimension who wield magical compacts, lipsticks that can draw pathways to other places or dimensions or time periods, and a wrist watch that can wind back time. Features a nice mystery ("so THAT'S where Sally's father was..."), and has one of the most depressing endings you could ever ambush onto a youngster -- you totally don't see that ending coming at all. Definitely a keeper. |

Good series in endanger of forming a violent anti-fandom, based on how many people want to call it a *masterpiece.* It's great, but definitely for those with the patience for its general storyline, execution, style and characters. I found it enjoyable enough -- it definitely has what it takes to be the new inspirational show of this decade, but man... Better than shows like Mobile Suit Gundam? No way. To be that, it'd have to be politically or culturally relevant to the times (can't be just about bored high-schoolers), be about more than a weird girl afraid of feeling un-special enough to transform the universe, and be longer than 14 friggin' episodes. It remains to be seen whether or not this show is as great as its fans think it is if it can evolve itself and its formula with more episodes, if there will be more. Until that time, I rest my case. :P |

This is NOT, I repeat, NOT a show you should really use to introduce people to the world of Gundam. x.x Gundam is about political intrigue and corrupt governments, to be sure (Wing certainly has THOSE), but it's also a universe about characters with some realism and depth, people whose stories you would actually want to follow to various sequels and whatnot. Wing does NOT include the latter. Would you ever want to see Relena again in anything else, for instance? I don't. Not as an idealist, at least. (She's a little more tolerable in Endless Waltz, where she learns some pragmatism for once. (Sheesh.)) Do you find any of the five Gundam pilots to be characters who are even remotely believable, as boys who can actually exist in reality? (-please say no.-) I certainly don't. They're characters out of a B-grade '80s action film, especially with one character's indispensible ability to survive self-destruct sequences within his Gundam. That would've been a nice ability to have in Ideon, that's for sure... Maybe the final tally wouldn't have been so bloody if people could survive planet cleavings and warship destruction by Ideon gun or sword, and usually-fatal gunshots wounds (shots to the face at POINT BLANK RANGE! Wow..) by sheer willpower...or something. o_O And let's not forget a plot with execution that's uneven, and at times, boring until the second half of the series, and two of the worst recap episodes you can ever suffer through in the history of humanity. >< Your characters are so overpowered and unbelievable, they're Gods among mortals; and your plot is so inscrutable, it requires improvised flow charts in hopes of getting even a GIST of what's going on, not because it's just that complicated, but because it's that unnecessarily convoluted -- how could you POSSIBLY enliven things up again (and not get cancelled)? BESERKER GUNDAMS! YES! O.O Also, bring in freaks like Dorothy who LOVE war (yay! the anti-Relena!) and then do NOTHING with her except make her ooze presence and creepiness, and then maybe a nice sword fight in the penultimate episode of the series; bring yet another character back from the dead (change that person's personality, too, while you're at it); make an anti-hero EVIL for no other real reason than to make things interesting again (as someone else has wisely suggested..XD); knock off scores of people (massacres and intended genocide always make good TV); take your relatively good guys OFF of earth, where the battles were soporific like hell, and ooh..UNITE THEM (like Voltron, but serviceable) IN SPACE (FUN!) and make them fight a common enemy (WOW! IT MAKES SENSE NOW!) and a COMMON BAD GUY. Make things make sense and become sensible, like it should've been from the beginning, have a few sad death scenes from characters who don't really deserve them, and you have the difference between day and night, especially, animation-wise, with direction more uneven at times than Sailor Moon's. Keep in mind, I actually LIKE this series, and I said all that. Go figure. You're better off introducting your friend to MSG instead. x.x He or she may think it's really boring and old, but it doesn't play out like a high-minded pre-Matrix '90s action film directed by someone slightly less tasteless and less of a hack than Michael Bay, at least. Sheesh. Gundam may be a lot of things, but it was never originally about whiny teenaged demi-gods on a quest to mean more to their world than just be pretty and unkillable. x.x Plus, from what I hear is bad about Seed and Seed Destiny (I haven't seen either shows, but I've read plenty of bashing posts about it ^_^), many of those flaws inevitably originate from THIS show -- everything you might have disliked about those two shows, you might have viewed on this show FIRST. The Seed before Seed, perhaps? It's certainly an AU interpretation of MSG. Alternate Universe, indeed! |

Gundam Wing at its best, and really, what it should've been throughout its run, in two lovely hours of nonstop action. This is a really nice movie with a nice plot and interesting, relatively plausible villains (gotta love having a 6-year-old genius threatening to ruin everyone's sh*t :D). If it wasn't a sequel, it'd be a nice introduction to Gundam Wing. :) Good for entertaining older relatives. |

I watched this as the Littl' Bits on Nickelodeon, from its premiere in 1990 to when it was cancelled in 1995. I loved this show. Sadly, I don't have a full episode of this wonderful series recorded, but it's definitely one of the best kids' cartoons ever animated. :) It's a show you would be proud to force on your kids. |

Silly movie with apparently no real point in why it was made, but I enjoyed the character and mecha designs for some reason. :/ (I like '80s mecha too much) The plot seemed like a straightforward bildungsroman about growing up, manhood, teamwork, friendship and all that other quaint, manly military stuff, until that girl shows up. After that, all of a sudden, it turns into some sci-fi action-adventure movie. Sounds nice, right? Artful and daring, if not confused? The problem? It's BORING. I was so bored with the movie when I recorded it off the Sci-Fi Channel over 10 years ago, that I left my TV off and let the VCR run until the movie was over. The main problem with this film is that there are only two interesting characters out of presumably 10-20 people: Akira and that girl. And Akira is some typical anti-authority brat, and Sarah's the token alien Mary Sue..or something. And the story is not that great on its own, but it had potential -- the execution of it, however, is so insipid and bland (in a technical sense) that you hardly care what happens. It's not a movie, it's a 2-hour sleeping pill, and that's really too bad, because it certainly was pretty enough to have been worthwhile, if only the story's execution was worth up to snuff. Regrettable, really... :/ |

Saw and recorded it off the Sci-Fi Channel back in fall 1996. I was genuinely surprised to see that this pretty movie was animated back in 1990. Not bad at all. The story plays out like an animated NES RPG without the cheesy DiC voice acting. :) Worth viewing. |

This show, I've been obsessing over since I caught it on TV-69 in Atlanta back in 1993. :D Voice acting's great, the plots are great, and I even like Southern Cross -- there, I've said it. Macross and Southern Cross are my favorite parts of the series, particularly Southern Cross -- it's definitely the technically lesser of the two, but it has more intriguing mystery to go with it. I hope to see all three shows subbed someday :) |

Great, well-animated, and inimitable series. Definitely one of the best shows of the early 1990s. The first and last time any of the characters in this series will experience real character development, with likeable villains of all things, and with a lovely, poignant ending. Great for kids. :) |

A good sequel to Sailor Moon with nice filler, although I think the quality dips a bit after the introduction of Chibi-Usa in the Black Moon episodes, whom I feel is THE WORST CHARACTER in the entire meta-series. Doesn't help that directors were also changed after the end of the Doom Tree saga. Say goodbye to characters and villains with actual depth from here on. (It'll be pretty enough, but...) The show won't really recover my interests in that area until what little I've seen from Sailor Stars. |

Series that I'm tempted to say is overrated ("ooh! it's dark!" "Ooh! Uranus and Neptune are so cool!" :D), but I won't, simply because I've only seen this dubbed on Cartoon Network, but man.. Even with the crappy dub's sub-par voice acting, the show wasn't really all that entertaining to me. I found Uranus and Neptune not fascinating, but annoying; I felt Saturn didn't get enough screen time (and she really doesn't at all through the whole meta-series -- I have a full Sailor Moon card deck, and out of 54 cards, her image isn't on a single one!); and as for Chibi-Usa, the audience gets no additional enlightenment into her character (none substantial at all) and she doesn't get any development at all, as USUAL. I found the villains mostly boring and unoriginal -- only Mistress 9 didn't bore or annoy the hell out of me. They're the Sailor Soldiers! Watch them fight..and stuff.. That's it. >< |

Silly movie that mostly everyone who remembers this knows because of that Matthew Sweet video from over a decade ago. It had nice animation and sound (I liked how late '60s/early '70s retro the art direction was :) It was very nice for 1982!).... But, really, telling by how abbreviated and rushed everything felt (who IS Golden Boy? o.O), I suspect I'm better off watching the TV series. The movie didn't really explain anything, characters OR plot, going on at all. |

The only way you can watch this series, other than paying an arm and a leg for out-of-print single Region 2 DVDs un-subtitled, is to download fansubs. I watched this series, not because of any affinity towards Evangelion (haven't even watched Eva, yet, after all these years), but because I knew Tomino directed it. I really like the characterizations and the plot, and the mystery behind the mecha itself. It should be enjoyed on its own merits, not because Hideaki Anno really liked it when he was a kid. Sheesh :P Maybe, by some miracle someday, I'll actually own the whole series legit. Each DVD costs $54.99, and the two movies can be owned on one DVD for $87.49. Wish me luck? o_O |

Seemed boring at first, but then, I caught that crazy "The Deaths in Ideon" clip on there, so I morbidly decided to give it another chance. (I'm awful -- I know!) After it was inevitably forced down by Sunrise, Inc., I looked for any and all ways that I could see it again. Luckily, I got to see it again through BitTorrent fansubs. I hope to own it on DVD someday.. |

I caught only the first 10 minutes on YouTube, but it seemed OK. After watching the TV series and Be Invoked, however, and finally watching this in full, the nicest thing I can say about this movie is that it's for those unfamiliar to the series and for those who don't really like it, not for people who like the TV series like me. As far as I'm concerned, this movie's really worth watching for the completist's sake, and for..maybe some nice re-done death scenes and that nice image song at the end. Heh, heh... |

Series that is quite boring until Tekkaman Dead shows up in the latter half of the series. If you liked Tekkaman Blade, you'll enjoy this -- but for others, they'll have a hard time understanding what's going on, seeing as how this is effectively a sequel to the TV series, and even then, for those like me who HAVE seen the TV series, the backstory doesn't explain the whole "primary bodies" thing very well at all. But you have to like the characterizations, even if the plot is very uninspired. :) It's like Southern Cross all over again -- good characters, decent and more-than-serviceable animation, boring plot. |

Great OAV from which the quality of everything related to it, except for that first Tenchi in Love movie, never quite recovers. See a pre-Kiyone Tenchi Muyo!, and be amazed by how great things are before even SHE shows up. Isn't that interesting enough in itself..? |

Great movie that can serve as an excellent (almost too good :/) introduction to the Tenchi Muyo! universe (it's how *I* was introduced, after all). Just show your friend this and the original OAV. Skip the silly TV series (not matter how pretty it is and how high its production values were), and its HORRIBLE Tenchi in Tokyo sequel. x_X Good god... *shudders*..But yeah... Tenchi in Love and original OAV -- GOOD. TV series -- mediocre. Tenchi in Tokyo -- God-awful! |

Embarrassing from minute one to the very end. I saw it on the Action Channel back in late 2000 or early 2001, and it was a terrible movie. I generally don't care for porn (I'm not offended by its existence..), and I don't approve of multiple rape scenes, including a gang-rape. If you want me to give you reasons to not see this movie, I can give you plenty.

There's the stereotypical characters, the spider with crotch-teeth lady, the dirty old man, the seemingly amoral main character, and the girl who doesn't seem to mind being raped and fondled by all sorts of beings. And, of course, there's worm rape. This movie is tasteless crap. Part of the reason I haven't seen Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, yet, is because I've been worried whether or not Kawajiri (the director of both this and that movie) added in a bunch of rape scenes. |
