| Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) | Awful (edit.dub), Excellent (sub) | A cute, sincere, fun and charming series. Cardcaptor Sakura has great characters and an of inoffensive purity and friendliness that is not trite or irritating in the least. Avoid English edited dub (Cardcaptors) which undoes every single charm of the original and rejects its messages of acceptance and love. |

| Yuri Seijin Naoko-san (OAV) | Decent | A decent show with coupe of quite funny moments, but too short and low-key to give a real impression. |
| Dusk maiden of Amnesia (TV) | Good | A distinctive supernatural anime with strong romance and horror elements. Improved by attractive and highly artistic visuals improve the show, but hampered by clichéd elements and ineffective and redundant humour scenes, particularly earlier in the series. Second half higher-quality but ending inappropriate. |
| Bamboo Blade (TV) | Very good (dub & sub) | A fun, easygoing and often quite funny sports anime about kendo. The animation is simple but engaging, and conveys the action and frantic pace of kendo matches effectively. Characters are strong, especially the lead. The English dub deserves praise: it conveys the show's honesty, passion and energy. The script is natural while identifiably Japanese. Cherami Leigh as Tamaki is the standout performance, convincingly portraying all aspects of her character. |

| Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card | Excellent | A necessary and satisfying follow-up to TV series that benefits from improved animation and genuinely exciting fight scenes. The Sealed Card is very sweet and enjoyable, with the same strengths as the series. |

| Hiiro no Kakera - The Tamayori Princess Saga (TV) | Weak | An attractive but rather bland series with clichéd, undeveloped characters and a vague, badly-handled plot. Character designs are distinctive but not particularly attractive. |
| Otaku no Video (OAV) | Very good | An enigmatic, intriguing and entertaining look at the concept of otakudom, with great art, music and an overall sense of honesty and quality. |
| Natsuiro Kiseki (TV) | Good | An enjoyable anime, average yet distinctive, with decent characterisation, storytelling, animation and a well-worn but appreciable message. Excellent theme songs, as would be expected from an idol vehicle. |
| K-ON! (TV) | Good | An enjoyable, diverting series anchored by excellent animation and music. Humour is okay, plot as present as it needs to be. |
| Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos (TV) | Good | An entertaining comedy with at times elements both uninspired and unique. Parodies of the Cthulhu mythos and other anime are amusing, but character-based comedy often stagnates, growing repetitive and annoying. |
| Gurren Lagann (TV) | Excellent (dub & sub) | An entertaining, over-the-top series featuring great music, excellent fight scenes and a stellar English dub. The passion behind the work and its genre lend it both credibility and quality. |
| Puni Puni Poemy (OAV) | Very good (dub & sub) | An extremely funny and blisteringly fast-paced comedy with inventiveness and character. Silly and enjoyable. |
| Angel's Egg (movie) | Excellent | Animation, art and music are all brilliant and unique. Symbolism and depth is incredible. Angel's Egg is beautiful, fascinating and just the right side of incomprehensible. |
| Clannad After Story (TV) | Excellent | Better than or equal to the first series in every respect, After Story is a truly emotional story with mostly great characters. Redundant earlier arcs, some contrived elements and an unfitting ending. |
| Gurren Lagann the Movie –Childhood's End- | Very good | Characters and plot development are rushed, and some character introduction is inadequate. Childhood's End - or Gurren-hen - works best to complement the series and introduce its sequel. The strengths of the original are largely retained, and the new elements are welcome additions. |
| Bible Black (OAV) | Not really good | Cheesy, ludicrous series, alternately bizarre and boring. Plot becomes mind-numbingly moronic. Entertainment value vastly improves with incredibly bad English dub. |

| Girls und Panzer (TV) | Very good | Combines sports, moe and action in a strong way with excellent music, characters and atmosphere. |
| Vampire Wars (OAV) | Bad (dub & sub) | Crappy, dumb anime that only gets crappier and even stupider as it continues. The animation is decent, the lead character is enjoyable if poorly-written but the rest of the cast is not even that. Excessively interpretative English dub is as poorly-acted as the Japanese, but at least contains terrible accents, rather than simply being lifeless. |
| Kokoro Connect (TV) | Decent | Decent in most audiovisual respects. Characters are well-written. The central gimmick, initially an effective plot device, along with the quality and relevance of drama becomes progressively worse. The final arc is unintentional comedy. The resolutions of problems defy logic. |
| Devil May Cry (TV) | So-so (dub & sub) | Formulaic and focused almost entirely on coolness. Fight scenes are so stylised that they are confusing and don't allow immersion. The premise of the series is also flawed in that Dante is totally invincible and there is little action per episode. English dub is a solid effort, minus some character-of-the-week performances, and Hilary Haag in particular plays the role of Patty effectively. Reuben Langdon is a welcome addition as the voice of Dante, particularly for fans of the game. |
| Kuroko's Basketball (TV) | Good | Fun, engaging and pleasantly ridiculous sports show. Characters are enjoyable and effective, animation quality varies but is on occasion thrilling. An overall good series. |
| Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) | Excellent (dub & sub) | Intelligent, sincere anime with three-dimensional characters, strong messages, finely-crafted drama, engaging fight scenes, effective horror and unique visual and story elements. |
| Pico×CoCo×Chico (OAV) | Decent | Lacks the energy and inventiveness of previous franchise instalments but makes up for it with pleasantly bizarre plot developments; loose logic, in good and bad ways. Erotic impact remains considerable, though less inspired. |
| Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie | Very good | Largely redundant but entertaining film of Cardcaptor Sakura with much the same strengths and weaknesses, with the added advantage of exploring backstory. |
| Angel Cop (OAV) | So-so | Low-quality, high-action silliness with lots of gore and increasingly ludicrous concepts. Loses focus and interest near the end and closes with forced, incoherent messages. English dub improves entertainment value at the cost of integrity (not that this is likely to be missed) due to high quantities of profanity and hamminess. |

| (Le) Portrait de Petite Cossette (OAV) | Good | Neat story with some interesting themes are just enough substance to carry the spectacular visuals and lovingly constructed gothic mood. Beautiful and absorbing - if a tad overly disjointed and cryptic. |
| Euphoria (OAV) | Weak | Not interesting, well-written or erotic. Pacing is terrible, animation worse and dialogue laughable even for a hentai. Amusing ending is the only slightly redeeming feature. |
| Gurren Lagann the Movie – The Lights in the Sky Are Stars | Excellent | Plot development is rushed during the first quarter, and character development is simplified. The action scenes are effectively streamlined, with the exception of the final battle, which is worth seeing the film for alone. Truly inspiring and powerful. |

| Dragon Ball Z (TV) | Decent | Repetitive, simple and painfully drawn-out, the villains remain despicable - if increasingly clichéd - the good guys inspiring and the innovative moments every couple of dozen episodes genuinely impressive. In the end, an overlong, rather decent shonen action anime. English dub is quite good. |
| K-ON! Season 2 (TV) | Good | Similar to the first season; however, the drama and air of nostalgia it tries to introduce is weakened by the simplicity of its characters. They function effectively as vessels for humour and moe, not so much believable characters. Falls woefully short of its potential as displayed in concert scenes, where it shines in most respects. Characters don't need depth to interact with music but they do with each other. |

Good animation and effective humorous and dramatic elements are marred by rushed final third and minor inconsistencies in characterisation. Far superior to later incarnation of the series. |
