Side characters sounded flat, but the Monica Rial as Misuzu and Luci Christian as Haruko were beautifully done. The first several episodes are boring, generic, and involve many characters who aren't important in the long run. Yukito's fate of being polymorphed is incredibly jarring and unnecessary except to leave him out of the mother/daughter plot of the finale three episodes (which is a beautifully done side plot). I shed tears when watching the final episodes, especially the finale. It's only 12 episodes long, so maybe you should give it a shot. It's short, even though it doesn't really get good until the last quarter. Bring tissues for the finale. I wish it'd focused more on the mother/daughter relationship between Haruko and Misuzu than the moe, slice of life stuff from the initial episodes. Watch this one with your heart, not your brain.
Bottom line, it's not one of the better shows out there, but I don't want to discourage anyone from seeing the things it gets right. I recommend people watch it since it's only 12 episodes and the last 3 are perfectly written. Honestly, if it was just an OVA of those three episodes, I'd give it a full-fledged recommendation. |

The story is inventive, but nothing to write home about. I'm no "graphics-whore" (a person who gets invested in something because of the art style or animation), but I have to admit that for a movie made in the 80's, Akira holds up well. The action is intense. The ending was random, but that couldn't be helped as it was a movie based off of an (at the time) ongoing manga. Still, its lack of a proper ending hurts it in my eyes, along with some pretty forgettable characters. Had they not shouted each others names every couple of minutes, I'd never remember "TETSUO" or "KANEDA'S" names. I don't feel like I wasted any time watching it, and I might watch it again in the future.
PS: I recommend watching the new dub. The Japanese is tolerable but the 80's dub is terrible (like most dubs of it's time). The new dub has Johnny Yong Bosch at least trying to do something with Kaneda's character, and because its him, I found the performance to be enjoyable. Joshua Seth as Tetsuo was okay, and for the most part everyone in the 2001 redub does a great job with their roles. If you're gonna watch this, watch it in English and don't expect a masterpiece. It's just a gory, visually appealing way to spend your time. |

A beautiful tale of loss, moving forward, accepting one's mistakes, and accepting the mistakes of others. Magnificently told, the emotions are far more than artificial, manipulative twists for the sake of shedding tears (unlike Clannad and Little Busters). One of the few anime in which I've cried watching, though I think this is the only anime that's made me cry simply by reading the lyrics of its ending song. Even more astounding, unlike most anime, this was eleven episodes. Most 12 episode anime are rushed or lack the sort of depth that they could have had, but Anohana was given the perfect amount of pacing. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants a mature anime. PS: Don't watch the movie. It's a rushed retelling of the show. |

While the characters are bland, the curse itself is incredibly fun to watch. If there's anything I can applaud this show for, its the death scenes. Still, it felt padded out. The show is 12 episodes, but it feels like it could've been wrapped up in six, maybe nine. |

All the characters are either awesome (Ladd, Claire, Firo, Luck, Chane, etc.), hilarious (Jacuzzi, Nice, and of course, Isaac and Miria), or just somehow enjoyable to watch. EVERY SINGLE NAMED CHARACTER IS FUN! I'm not joking. The characters are so awesome, you'll have difficulty picking a second favorite! Isaac and Miria will almost certainly be tied for first assuming you have any taste.
Oh, right... there's a plot and it's well done, but who cares? The characters are more important! They're all so much fun! The music was also the most amazing use of Jazz in an anime since Cowboy Bebop! The English Dub (which you WILL watch over the Japanese if you have any sense) is perfect. The accents are all spot on, the dialogue is spiced up perfectly enough that I've managed to trick people into believing this was one of those western cartoons that just looks like an anime (you know, like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Boondocks).
Like I said before, every character is enjoyable. Even Jacuzzi Splot, who will annoy the shit out of you, is lovable by the end! Ladd is the most fun psychopath in anime history! If you watch him and you don't smile once, you're dead inside.
The only downside is that it wasn't longer. Those last three episodes made me want to know more about the characters. It has a definitive ending, and a damn good one, but I still want more! This anime's only fault is that it was so good that I wanted to see more of the same awesomeness!
Sigh, okay. I admit... Baccano won't appeal to everyone, but it will appeal to people who are awesome! I guess you could say that there's "too much gore," but that's less of a problem with the show itself and more of a problem with you being a massive wuss. |

Ordinarily, I'd start off by talking about the story or characters, but I have to get one statement out of the way. This anime has the best use of English Dubbed music in anime history. It's better than the Japanese for one reason: The songs are all in Engrish for the most part anyway. The dub just switches the lyrics around so that they make sense.
Anyway, this has to be the most realistic anime I've ever seen. No superpowers, no hidden conspiracies, and unlike most sports/music anime, the world doesn't revolve around the theme of the anime. Not every character is in love with music sometimes they're forced to choose between other factors in their lives (like family, work, school, and romance) or their musical careers. The bullying problem that the main character, Yukio, faces is realistically portrayed. He doesn't learn karate and kick the bullies' asses, nor does he just get the problem resolved by telling authority figures. It's honestly painful to see him go through such problems until we, the audience, are rewarded with Yukio's solution.
Aside from that, the music is all done fantastically. The soundtrack is barely existent aside from when characters are playing music themselves or when it's playing over a radio. That gives Beck this sort of "real-life" atmosphere that sometimes made me forget I was even watching an anime. Granted, some people find this drier approach to the atmosphere to be boring, but I found it to be a refreshing change.
When the characters are playing music, every single guitar strum, piano key, and drumstick smash is timed precisely between the animation of the characters and the music itself. There's not one "technical" error to be found except for the singing part perhaps. Each language track has a different level of quality, so I'll start by talking about the Japanese.
The original Japanese sounds okay for the speaking parts, but... okay, some of the characters are either from America, or have lived in America for a long time, so they do this thing where the "American characters" speak English to each other. It's painfully obvious that the Japanese Actors are NOT fluent in English, causing them to speak in painfully bad Engrish. If that were the only error, that would be one thing. It isn't. The songs, as I've mentioned before, are also in painful Engrish because BECK is a Rock band. To the Japanese ear, I guess this sounds tolerable because it's a foreign language, so they can't tell if it's good or bad, but Americans can certainly tell that the songs are poorly sung.
This just makes the English Dub more rewarding. Everyone sounds great when speaking, but the songs are endearingly heartfelt when they sing soft love songs, and full of passion when they sing awesome Rock n' Roll songs. I was especially impressed by Greg Ayres. For those who don't know, he plays mostly... nasally, whiny characters like Ganta from Deadman Wonderland, Yamazaki from Welcome to the NHK, and... that "Jewish" kid from Ghost Stories. Let me just say... I'm impressed at how well Greg Ayres can sing. He's great at it and every time I watched BECK, I looked forward to the next scene in which he sang in. Everyone else is good too, but he stood out to me as amazing.
Should you watch BECK? Yes. Drop everything you're doing and buy the DVDs. Tell them Louis sent you, they'll know what you mean. |

Berserk is amazing. The characters are all awesome. Everything between Guts, Griffith, and Casca feels like it was planned out by fate. The story plays out like a Greek Tragedy and feels like a complete masterstroke of writing. Even the named minor characters in the Band of the Hawk, Griffith's mercenary band, are enjoyable (except for Corkus).
Griffth's friendship with Guts, however, may be more than just a "friendship." I don't wanna give anything way, but... Yaoi Fangirls may actually be justified with this "shipping." Guts and Griffith make Ciel and Sebastian look like they're "just friends."
With that out of the way, the music in Berserk always fits the mood perfectly even though, to me, nothing really stands out. Nothing stands out, except of course, Forces. Forces may be the most epic choice of Background music I've ever heard in an anime outside of Attack on Titan and possibly Fate/Zero. Aside from that, the opening is in terrible Engrish so I always skipped it, and the ending theme is... I dunno because I never watched it.
I watched the English Dub and the voice acting is... hit and miss. Guts sounds great, Casca sounds great, Griffith sounds... meh. Tolerable. Everyone else ranges from "okay" to "laughable" but luckily, they never come across as annoyingly bad. The dub is solid enough.
"Louis. You seem to really like this anime. In fact, you said the writing was amazing. Why did you only Rate this one 'excellent' instead of calling it a 'masterpiece?'"
That's simple. The ending doesn't exist! The story was going so well and drops a huge bombshell of death and horror leading up to something incredible. Right as the show gets into its darkest moment, it ends! It doesn't really end, it just stops! On a cliffhanger, no less. It's like the creators made this as a commercial to advertise their manga! "Hey kids! Wanna know what happens next? Find out... BY BUYING OUR MANGA! BWAHAHAHAHA!" If the story ended properly, I'd consider it a masterpiece beyond words. The lack of an ending ruins its rewatch value for me.
Overall though, I'd recommend every see this anime at least once in your life. Provided you're not squeamish. This show has themes of rape, torture, and corruption. Also, sometimes the gore can get excessive. This is speaking especially for the event later in the series known to fans of the franchise as "The Eclipse." If you've seen Berserk, you know what I'm talking about and why this "Eclipse" may be too much for a lesser viewer to handle.
Personally though, I loved Berserk all the way up until... its terrible ending. I wouldn't rewatch it, but I don't feel like it was a waste of my time to watch it in the first place. In fact, I liked it "too much." I expected a fantastic ending instead of... "TO BE CONTINUED... NOT!" Everything leading up to it was amazing, but the ending itself is not even worthy of being called an ending. Thankfully, it seems there's some intention to reboot the Berserk Franchise as a series of movies, so I'd recommend people start with this TV show and then go on to see if the movies are any better, since they skim over some details that the TV show fully explored, but at the same time, there's details left in those movies that the TV show omitted. I wouldn't say to choose the movies over the show, but instead, watch the movies after seeing the show to get the full experience. |

The decent ranking was made for shows like this. Slow at times, often funny, easy to get invested in. The characters are likable, the tone is dark when it's serious, but light when comedic. One problem I had was that the comedy often came just before or after something dark, making it feel like the show had Mood Whiplash problems. Aside from that, Ciel and Sebastian are great, entertaining characters. Ciel's need for vengeance is surprisingly sympathetic and Sebastian's classy, badass personality and actions make for some of the most entertainment I've had watching a lesser-known anime. The English dub gives the characters fairly convincing English accents, similar to Hellsing Ultimate. The dialogue is fun as well. In fact, I never got tired of hearing Sebastian's famous catchphrase: "I'm simply one 'hell' of a butler." It's nothing deep or thought-provoking, but it's entertaining and isn't that all that really matters? |

Awesome action (I dare say it's taken to Hellsing Ultimate levels at times), cool characters (not a single one was annoying), and witty dialogue make this show one of my favorites. It's like a Hollywood summer blockbuster in anime form! The dub is "fucking" fantastic, Rock is fun to watch, Revy is always either hilarious or awesome (or both), Balalaika is freaking awesome, Roberta is badass... and the best part is that all of them have legitimate character development at one point or another. Never are you watching redshirts to the fire or walking badasses without flaws or humanity. This show can be silly, over the top, scary, and surprisingly, emotional. Revy's issues and Roberta's relationship with Garcia aside, the thing that got to me the most was the arc with Hansel and Gretel. I don't want to spoil too much (especially since this is an anime I think everyone should definitely see), but I genuinely shed a tear at the end. Making me cry is very difficult, but this show succeeded, though more often than not, it made me stand up and shout "fuck yeah" as though I were one of its many vulgar characters. |

Even more action, even more gore, even more swearing, and EVEN MORE ROBERTA! This OVA series is just awesome. Seeing Roberta slowly lose herself to revenge is not only heartbreaking, but SCARY! I swear, I felt goosebumps watching this, which is something I haven't been able to admit when watching anime in a long time. The dub was, as always, great. The music was still the same awesome stuff as before, and the action was even more intense. There's more gore this time around, so if you're squeamish, tread lightly. Aside from that, enjoy this awesomeness. I don't promise much substance (it IS Black Lagoon after all), but it's still incredibly entertaining, even more so than the previous seasons. |

If you love shounen anime... this is one of those. :\ I've since outgrown it, but I still realize that it has its merits. Also, Kenpachi is still badass. 300+ episodes of pure shounen isn't really my cup of tea anymore, but if you're a teenager craving violence, you've probably already seen Bleach. |

I loved it as a kid, but I've since outgrown it. It's random and silly, yes, but that's all it is. At 74 episodes, it outstays its welcome. I think what drew me to it was that it aired on Toonami alongside shounen anime. I expected another awesome action show, and instead I got fourth wall humor and pure insanity. It was so different that I loved it. It was also my first gag anime. Now that I've seen things like Excel Saga, Gintama, and hell, Fooly Cooly, Bobobo is just sorta "okay." It's certainly not bad compared to those shows. It's just... nothing spectacular. |

A show about 14 kids coming face to face with their own mortality is truly something to behold. Children who have the choice to "die with everyone" or "die saving everyone." These children all had unique stories up until a certain point. What stopped this anime from being a complete masterpiece in my eyes were a few hiccups in writing near the 3/4 point of the series. Suddenly two of the kids develop feelings for each other out of nowhere and... it didn't lead to anything nor was it relevant before the scene where one of those children died. It felt like contrived writing, along with a few of the other things between episodes 16 and 20. I don't want to point out anymore of the flaws because I don't want to discourage anyone from seeing it. It's a pretty underexposed gem, having come out in 2007 and to this very day, remains unlicensed and undubbed. I prefer the manga, but the anime is still a thing of beauty. It makes you question your own worth and the worth of everyone you know. It shows the world with all of its fangs and its sweet embraces. Never before has there been an anime so full of hopeless, inevitable death, yet... so full of hope as well. All of the children die (as is the premise), but most of them find a way to reach a bittersweet ending, dying without regret. The only other thing I can say is that the opening theme's lyrics and the ending themes' lyrics are all heartbreaking when you read what they truly mean and then apply it to the show. My favorite line from the opening is "It looks like I have no choice but to pretend to be a warrior who knows no fear." Again, while the show is amazing, I wish it had taken the path of the manga. Had it done that, I'd have rated it a lot higher, but as it is, it's still well worth watching. |

Firstly, the music was amazing. The best music I've heard in a while from an OVA series. I'll have Hurricane stuck in my head for a while. Second, I loved the dynamic between all of the characters. Third, the dub was great considering what I was expecting. This is a pre-1999 dub, so I thought it would sound like monotonous shit, but it was surprisingly full of life. It's not up to today's standards, but it's great for it's time and still listenable today. Finally, this would have been a few ranks higher if it had a fun conclusion. The last episode was too open-ended considering all the conspiracies and twists that were hinted at. Still loved it. I'll probably rewatch this one some time. |

After playing the Tsukihime Visual Novel and watching the Fate/Stay Night anime (and reading a few spoilers about the visual novel), I can honestly say that this OVA series is nothing but Nasuverse fanservice. That's not a bad thing, it just means that if you're not in the intended audience, you probably won't enjoy this to the fullest. There are still plenty of jokes that you can understand with only vague knowledge of the Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, but if you're not already a fan of at least one of those two series, you shouldn't waste your time. |

Depressing, full of symbolism, depressing, most characters end up dying, and the show is very depressing. I don't mean like Bokurano where you know that everyone will die. At least that show has them deal with their fates in an inspiring manner! This anime is about the apocalypse. Everyone rusts away except for Casshern, and his friends want eternal life. EXCEPT they don't. Yeah, all of the sudden, immortality is bad for some reason. I dunno... I think the message is that "Life without death is meaningless" or something, but it's so vaguely portrayed. I swear, this anime's use of symbolism is half-meaningful at times. Plus, the villains have petty motives. One just wants immortality in order to stay beautiful (or something) and the other just wants to defeat Casshern because... he wants to beat Casshern. He's basically a generic Shounen rival placed in an inappropriately dark show. I fell asleep watching this 3/4 times. I don't really recommend it to anyone unless they REALLY, REALLY like dark and depressing stories... and are masochistic towards their souls. |

I'm not sure why I attach so strongly to this Miyazaki film. It was just a blast to watch. I'm not even really a big Ghibli fan (their stuff is alright, but I never saw them as the best things ever from Japan like a lot of people do), but the humor of this film connected with me. I love old Tex Avery and Hannah Barbara cartoons. Plus, the villain is played by Mark Hamill. What more can I say? PS: I loved the soundtrack, so that might have been a small bias on my part. The final scene where Laputa falls to a certain musical score gave me goosebumps when I first saw/heard it. |

Funny show with some light fanservice. I'm the kind of guy who hates fanservice anime, and this show doesn't strike me as one. It has some of the tropes associated with the Magical Girlfriend and Harem genres, but it's never a disgustingly self-insert fanservice romp like those genres are. Hideki is far from a generic Tenchi or Keitaro. He's hilarious, but well-meaning. Also, I don't say this lightly, but Chi is the most adorable character in any anime I've ever seen. Just based off her cuteness factor, she's able to make me smile more than most characters ever could. The first two thirds of the show are a little formulaic and silly, but the last part is damned good. I highly recommend this to someone who is a very patient sci-fi fan. You'll need to wait through the first 18 episodes of comedy to get to the good stuff after all. |

It's not perfect, but as "required reading" for Clannad After Story, it's engaging enough and emotional enough to set up that masterpiece. You have to invest your emotions and turn off your brain to full enjoy this one, but if that doesn't bother you, you will enjoy it. |

My thoughts on the original Clannad are only so high because it leads up to After Story. First off, I've seen the dub for this as well, and I have to say that I was... not really impressed. Stick with the Japanese. Secondly, this anime is the most emotional anime ever. Yes, yes, that means that you'll have to watch it with your heart and not your brain, but dammit. It can make me cry. The initial 8 episodes are kind of slow, but after Tomoya graduates, it's a story about his life and the choices he makes growing up. It's interesting to follow him into adulthood. The music is heartfelt and always fits the mood of the show perfectly. The characters are... okay. I admit that aside from Tomoya, everyone is archetypal. Still, the way they're used is amazing even though Tomoya is the only one to develop. And it's perfectly fine that he's the only one shown to change. It's his story, not Nagisa's, Fuko's or Tomoyo's. The way that they worked in the girl and robot sidestory was good, although it felt a little too contrived. I can understand people's frustration with the ending, but I thought it was perfect despite the fact that it undid the tragedies that made this story so meaningful. Again, you need to watch it with your heart, not your mind. This anime is brilliant and I feel as though I'm a bit biased towards it. Maybe it's not a truly perfect masterpiece like the other things on my "Masterpiece" list, but everyone should try it out anyway! This show is great! Fantastic even! I'm glad I finally sat down and watched it! |

Awesome protagonist. Lelouch is basically Light Yagami mixed with a Gundam protagonist or something. Plus, he's got plenty of redeeming qualities. He's most definitely an anti-hero and not an evil prick. The relationship between him and Suzaku is handled masterfully. The way they both take darker, more controversial actions as the series progresses made me keep coming back to it. Every character has a purpose (except Rivalz) and they all served their purposes well. Every episode ended with some sort of plot twist that never felt contrived in the slightest. The voice acting is amazing in Japanese, especially with Lelouch's seiyuu, but the dub does things almost as well. Some of the side characters sound so-so in the dub, but the main three (Lelouch, Suzaku, and CC) all sound fantastic. Johnny Yong Bosch took a little bit longer than expected to grow into his role as Lelouch (he sounds just a smidge too innocent in the beginning) but after the first ten episodes, he gets just as passionate about the role as his seiyuu counterpart. I still get chills when I hear his final faceoff with Suzaku. The way Lelouch shouts "SUZAKU" in the dub is far more intimidating than the Japanese version in my mind. Had the anime ended definitively here instead of on a cliffhanger, it would be a masterpiece. |

This was difficult for me. Due to plot contrivances, characters acting in ways I'd normally never suspect (and not in a good way), and info-dumps that made no sense, I feel that it was inferior to season one of Code Geass, however, due to the amazing first episodes and masterful ending, I can't rate it any lower than this. Even if you hate Mecha anime, you should watch Code Geass for the ending alone. This is one of the most perfect endings to an anime I've ever seen. It easily makes my top 3 alongside Cowboy Bebop and Madoka Magica. I refuse to talk about why it's overall inferior to the first half. Instead, I want everyone to see both seasons just to marvel at how perfect they managed to build up to that ending. |

The art is beautiful, the music is stellar, the voice acting (and I prefer the English) is perfect. The stories are all above average except for two episodes, and I loved all of the main characters except Faye. The characters all speak few words while conveying everything they need to. Never is there a contrived exposition or internal monologue to convey the emotions of a character. Everything is conveyed through actions or cleverly worded, natural dialogue. It has a slow start, but the ending episodes are so perfect that it makes the viewer appreciate the journey, discovering more upon each rewatch. While I probably don't appreciate it as much as most people (it wasn't one of my first anime so it lacks the value of nostalgia for me that most people have for it) I'd still recommend this to anyone with a mature mind. |

A 90 minute long, cinematic quality episode of Cowboy Bebop. The characters are still awesome, the music is even better than in the series, Steve Blum and Beau Billingslea add life to Spike and Jet as much as they did in the series. The new villain, Vincent, is one hell of a badass. The story is nothing new, but still fun to watch. Still...this movie is not perfect and, as a fair critic, I must review the pros and cons of everything I talk about. Even the things I love may not escape my critical wrath (sorry Cowboy Bebop). My major issue is with Vincent. He's awesome, but at one point of the movie, he captures Faye and never finishes her off (shut up, this has nothing to do with my dislike of Faye). He has no convincing reason to spare her, but decides to pull the classic James Bond villain mistake. It felt like he kept her alive because the story needed her to stay alive, rather than for his own convenience. My other issue is with the lack of the Bebop crew themselves. Spike aside, no one's around. Jet and Ed are barely focused upon and Faye spends most of the movie being held captive by Vincent. Do these flaws ruin the movie? Hell no. Go watch it right now! These flaws hardly bothered me and I doubt they'll ruin anyone else's enjoyment of the film! |

None of the two-episode arcs are ever bad. You could say that the final arc was rushed, but I still loved it overall. I'd recommend this to action fans and anyone who loves episodic shows more so than overarching stories. This is the anime equivalent of Batman: The Animated Series + A Live Action Crime Show. |

It would've been excellent if the show didn't drop in quality at the 2/3 way point. I don't wanna spoil anything that happened at that exact moment, but let's just say that a certain letter of the alphabet got removed. -.- Despite this, the show is still amazing. The music was addicting as hell, the voice acting was delightfully over the top in both languages, and the ending was satisfying as hell. I won't spoil how it ends, but it's worth getting through the shitty Mello/Near arc to get to it. Light and L are entertaining characters, but everyone else is just sorta... okay. Ryuk is also fun, but not nearly as involved (unless you want to take into account that without Ryuk, there'd be no plot to begin with). It's not deep or thought-provoking, but the mind game between Light and L is something that I'd love to see more of in anime. There should be an entire genre about mind games and psychological warfare. It was a genius set up which was brilliantly executed. Entertaining as hell and never TRULY boring, the last third just wasn't as fun as the first parts of the show. |

What if I told you that there was a show about a boy who transforms into a demon called "Devilman" in order to fight other demonic creatures and save the Earth? What if I told you that this anime has a crap ton of gore and fighting? You might expect it to be silly. You might expect it to be crazy. Hell, you might just expect it to be completely insane. What you wouldn't expect is that it would be completely boring to sit through. In that way, Devilman defies expectations. The characters are poorly written and clumsily developed. No. I wouldn't call it development on Rio's part. One moment he wants to kill the demons and then the next time we see him, he's pondering whether or not the humans are the real monsters without any real build up or foreshadowing leading up to it. The voice acting ranges from average to terrible. Several plot points are contradicted (Rio says that only demons can harm demons... yet a gun manages to blow a demon's face off and kill it rather easily...). The story ends on a cliffhanger. I'm not mad though. It's not as though it left me wanting more. In fact, I'm grateful that it ended so painlessly. |

If you ask me, it's better than Pokemon, but I wouldn't say that this has hit any new ground as far as kid's anime is concerned. The dub should have been taken more seriously, but it was a good effort for its time. My only peeve is the musical score in the English Version. I want whoever decided to use such terrible music to be hanged (or at least fired). |

IMO, this didn't HAVE to be 50 episodes. It could have been 24, maybe 36 at most. It was bogged down by too many Monster of the Week things, which is typical for the type of show it is. Still, I loved it when the show got darker. Calumon was always adorable, and for once, I had no issues with this dub. Guilmon is impossible to watch without a massive smile. The scary stuff that somehow got passed Saban's localization was friggin' scary. This is probably the second or third darkest Kid's anime I've ever seen (first is Princess Tutu, and second might be Gash Bell if you count it as a children's anime more than a Shounen). I love it and it's probably the only Digimon anime I've seen thus far that might warrant a rewatch. My only issue? DIGI-MODIFY! They do that way too much, it takes over a minute, and it usually NEVER resolves the battle. It's there to sell toys and cards. That is all. Also, I preferred the Japanese opening for this one, but the acting itself could go either way. "Wanna Be the Biggest Dreamer" is just too amazing. |

One of my top 3 favorite anime films of all time. Easily my favorite film based off an anime series. My feelings towards the original Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya are mixed. I felt as though there was plenty of untapped potential that the series wasn't reaching. This movie captured all of the potential and more. Kyon is thrust into a world without Haruhi and the supernatural presences that surround her. This leads us, the audience, to seeing Kyon's most vulnerable moments as he sinks further and further into his desperation to fix things. The emotion behind Kyon's actions is portrayed masterfully by Crispin Freeman. Every scene is executed with a sense of meaning. Watching Kyon develop from a snarky, easily annoyed everyman to an active member of the SOS Brigade is an immense treat. The technical aspects of this film are also fantastic. The music is stuff you'd expect from a serious drama, which this is, without a doubt. Every plot point is used perfectly. This show is several miles, no, countries past what the series was. When I first heard of this franchise, I thought I'd hate it. Watching the original series only confirmed most of my worries. Now that I've seen this movie, I'm glad I gave this franchise a chance. I recommend it to everyone. It's well worth sitting through the first two seasons of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to experience this beautiful piece of art. While some people may be annoyed by the slow pacing in the first third, I was fully engaged throughout. I hope that the franchise continues now. I want more films like this to be made. |

One of my first anime. The feeling of bliss brightens my face every time I watch Kid Goku's journey. This is the first anime I ever bought on DVD and I don't regret it. As a child, I loved it. As an adult, I'll pass my DVDs down to whatever child I end up having. While some of the content may be mature (mostly the humorous scenes with Master Roshi), this show is without a doubt, whimsical fun. Unlike DBZ, which I feel took itself too seriously, this show had the perfect balance of comedy and action. The English dub is great. The music is fun, especially the English opening. For an old, often copied shounen anime, this still holds up very well. |

While Toriyama occasionally let Gohan and Vegeta have the spotlight, Toei Animation seemed to fanboy over Goku being the hero to the extent that he's really the only one capable of putting up a decent fight against the villain. Whoever the CEO or producer of Toei Animation is/was at the time, I'm certain that his boyfriend has spiky hair, an orange gi, and a flying yellow cloud. Clearly this was a favor to that boyfriend and nothing else. Although, if I had to say something nice about it... the JAPANESE opening is very pretty. The stupid rap that the dub thought would make this show "Hip with the kids" is probably worse than cancer. |

I don't wanna say it's bad. It's a good action show that newer anime tend to steal from. It's the co-defining Shounen anime. Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail, Hunter X Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho, and many others have spawned from it. I loved it as a kid but... it's really nothing more than action. The comedy from the original is toned down a lot. I'm especially disappointed at how the human Z-Fighters are useless. Hell, basically the non-saiyans are all useless. Depressing really. Still, it's a fun watch. Over the top action, shounen cliches in good taste, and Funimation's delightful script. It's the ultimate gateway drug for kids and violence craving teenagers. |

I expected an FMA Brotherhood style remake, but instead they just sorta... did the exact same fights the exact same way, but without filler moments. They also edited out some of the gore. My biggest complaint is that the OPENING looks freaking stellar, but the actual show looks exactly as it did in the 80's and 90's except for some very minor differences. The most impressive thing is Funimation's voice actors. While I don't like some of the replacements for characters whose voice actors quit, retired, or just weren't available, the dialogue is great. It's edgier and truer to the Japanese without feeling forced. Still, it's just DBZ again. Plus, if you're watching the Japanese version instead, you're not getting much out of this. |

Broly apparently suffered some sort of brain damage since the previous movie. He went from saying things like "Monster...? No. I am the devil!" to replacing his entire vocabulary with "KAKAROT!" He's just a one-note machine in this film. They took a flat, but somewhat badass character and turned him into a Fate/Stay Night Berserker. Aside from that... there were two great scenes that make this movie memorable. One was Trunks peeing on Broly's head and the other... okay. I don't wanna spoil this for whoever hasn't seen the movie yet, but Piccolo saves Gohan as he does in every movie, but... there's a surprise this time. I won't spoil it. It makes it worth the hour and a half of shounen pandering just to laugh your ass off at "Piccolo" saving Gohan. |

Aside from that retarded shit, Broly is a badass villain. One note and generic as he is, he's freaking awesome and scary as he gives the Z-fighters a brutal beatdown. Also, give Vic Mignogna credit. He's got some range going from Broly's voice to Edward Elric's voice. |

Aside from the way they demean the human characters more than usual, it's a pretty generic film as always. Though the Tree of Might idea was original, it's used as just another plot device for the villain to get stronger. That's all that matters in Shounen World. Strong guys fighting stronger guys to get stronger in a world of strength when strong people happen to pass by. |

I.. don't even know what the fuck this was about! Some girls want some spineless wimp named Densuke (whose name the dub can't even pronounce correctly) to join the Eiken club (which has a name that the dub can only pronounce every one out of three times correctly. "What's the Eiken Club? What do they do? Why do they want Densuke to join?" Well, I don't wanna spoil anything for you, but NONE OF THOSE QUESTIONS ARE ADDRESSED! Oh god, the plot is awful. Even for a "comedy" ova (which in itself is just borderline hentai, but I'll get to that later) this is just annoying. Most of it is just fanservice, if you can call it that. It really just felt like I was raped by watching this. My eyes require therapy, because this so called "Fanservice" doesn't service me at all! It's just disgustingly disproportionately sized breasts flopping up and down (with the largest pair being on a twelve year old girl) as the main character is subject to having them shoved in his face every five seconds. It's everything that annoyed me about Tenchi Muyo and Love Hina, without the parts that I actually enjoyed! And getting back to the voice acting... the Japanese voice track is annoying! OH! But the English... somehow managed to be even worse. Everyone sounds annoying, or flat, or ROBOTIC! And no one can pronounce Japanese names properly! Densuke=Den-skei. Not Den-soo-kay! 60 minutes long and it feels like I've been tortured for years! I feel like Griffith from Berserk right before the Eclipse! They probably didn't do anything to him in that torture chamber! The torturer just made him watch this OVA and Griffith trying desperately to commit suicide, tortured himself to get away from a world where this horrid piece of filth exists. Aside from the terrible story and non-existent characters (they're more like... archetypes for characters), the music was... weird. I don't even remember most of it. I just remember one track that played when the teacher and Densuke tripped and fell (people who saw this will know why I remembered that). Ugh... I don't usually comment on the animation because an amazing story and fun characters normally allows me to overlook small flaws. This time though... I'm going to point out everything wrong with this piece of shit. The animation is very limited when it comes to anything besides the characters' breasts. They do that thing where the animators only animate their mouths moving while talking and sometimes, they take it a step further and loop the animation from other scenes! Plus, the breast sizes are inconsistent. I... feel like a pervert for noticing, but SENSEI at one moment is surprisingly normal sized in the chest and the next she's... MASSIVE. Ugh... enough about Breasts, despite it CLEARLY being the main appeal of the show. Animation this bad for an OVA is insulting. From my experience, OVAs tend to have a good animation budget because they don't have to spread it out carefully over 24 episodes. With that said, this is pathetic. This is almost pornographic in content! One more thing that's of slight "interest" is that Densuke, the main character, is voiced by Bryce Papenbrook! Bryce is a talented actor. He's played many heroic characters in anime and if you haven't heard his voice, I suggest that you check out his work. While I didn't care for Sword Art Online, he brought so much life to Kirito, and his work as Eren Jaeger is fantastic. With that said... I think this anime might be Bryce Papenbrook's old shame. His voice does nothing for me here. Everyone else sounds like shit, but he sounds especially bad. Well... so does everyone else. Anyway, this is one of the few anime that I can say pained me to sit through. I don't usually say this, but I assume that most people who enjoy this sort of anime are probably depraved, disgusting people. I'm not saying that's certain but... I don't wanna meet you guys if you liked this piece of filth. I hate both it, and anyone who enjoyed it. Igh... now I feel dirty for rewatching it for the sake of making proper criticisms. :'( |

Eh... I didn't hate it. It's just not as awesome as I expected it to be. The characters are mostly dumbasses, the gore is a bit TOO over the top (and I've thoroughly enjoyed Hellsing Ultimate and Berserk), the voice acting in both languages is kind of lifeless (but the English script writing is somewhat lower in quality than the Japanese), and the exposition is excessive. Never can the audience simply enjoy an emotional scene for what it is. We must have it explained to us why we should care and why one character feels a certain way about another. Sad moments are forced. Especially with Lucy's backstory. It feels like her life was contrived so that she'd hate humanity. Bullies beating a puppy to death is not a great tragedy, it's just emotionally manipulative writing. To give an example of brilliant tragic writing, Kiritsugu Emiya's backstory in Fate/Zero (episodes 18 and 19 if I recall correctly) is amazingly well-written without feeling manipulative. It explains why Kiritsugu acts the way he does, but does it in such a way that it felt like an inevitable fate rather than contrived writing. If you found the deaths Kiritsugu had to cause and the loved ones he lost to be sad, then that's great. But even if you didn't, you could still admit that his childhood and adolescent years built up to the current point flawlessly. There was a sense of grey to the morality of Kiritsugu's allies and enemies. Never was he 100% right in his actions, nor were the people he killed 100% evil. Some were people who he killed because he had to, not because he wanted to. In Lucy's case, it felt like the world was against her. It feels like this script is fanfiction written by a Lucy fan who also happens to be racist against humanity (however that works). Lucy is a good little girl who was simply corrupted by those big bad humans because they are evil and she is just a poor victim of bullying. Finally, those slice of life/moe moments (and entire episodes) where Lucy (or Nyu, if you will) is bonding with Kouta. They feel out of place, despite the fact that these scenes can occasionally be silly and even heartwarming (or rather, would be heartwarming had it not been for the exposition factor I mentioned earlier). Also, Kouta's voice actor, at least in the dub, sounds too freaking old. Look at Kouta and then listen to his voice. You won't need to hear the Japanese version first to know that his voice does NOT belong over that body. Okay, that's enough hating. I'm now going to say what Elfen Lied does right. First off, the action scenes are actually pretty cool! Lucy herself is a fairly badass character, even if I disagree with her personality as Nyu. (Speaking of which, the reason she always reverts back to being Nyu is called Contrived Writing.) There's a certain sense of satisfaction that the audience (or maybe it's just me) gets from watching moe, cute, big-eyed characters getting their limbs chopped off. That aside, the action isn't the best I've seen out of an anime. I mean, it's no Black Lagoon or anything. The music is amazing despite my complaints about other areas of the show, the audio is used to perfection. It has one of the best openings of all time, but the emotional scenes only get a reaction out of me because the music is there. Especially during scenes where they remix the opening, the music is all amazing. So, should you watch it? That depends. If you want a brilliant story, no. If you like action and gore no matter how dumb the story is, then you'll love it. I personally prefer a good story... so... meh. Plus, this has a "read the manga" ending. If you don't know what that is, it's basically when an anime ends prematurely because it wants you to read the manga or light novel it was based off of. In other words, if you don't like being left hanging, read the manga or skip out on this show entirely. |

An amazing combination of Shounen and Romance. Renton and Eureka are amazing characters, as are most of the Gekko's crew. Anemone and Dominic had a pretty enjoyable relationship too. I only had two major problems with the characters. One was... those god damned kids. Eureka has three children who she adopted and... they easily rank in the top 5 most annoying anime characters I've ever seen. They pull pranks on Renton (you know, those cartoonish pranks that would get a lesser man killed and are actually extremely dangerous, such as shaking a ladder while Renton is on the top...), insult him, and whine about their mommy having her feelings hurt by him just to make Renton feel like shit even if he didn't do anything wrong. In an early episode, Renton finds out why they're treating him like shit (they don't want to lose their "mommy" to him), and by the end... they seem to learn their lesson about being ASSHOLES and warm up to him. Cute, right? Fuck that. The story seems to have forgotten about that entirely. This isn't just a minor annoyance. These kids are part of Renton and Eureka's character arcs and play a somewhat important role in their blooming romance! As such, you'd think they'd get less annoying, but nope. I'd honestly have no issue if these kids were murdered! Even in the final episodes where they OFFICIALLY like Renton enough to call him "Daddy" I just glared at the screen and said "No. Don't try to flip this around. It's too late. I hate all of you." The only other major problem I had was with Holland. He's... kind of an abusive asshole to Renton. That's not to say that the entire crew isn't guilty of this from time to time, but their assholish behavior towards Renton is mostly just teasing and playing genuinely funny pranks (Renton's ramen delivering mission had me laughing my ass off). With Holland always screaming at Renton for disobeying incredibly minor orders in order to save someone else's ass (usually Eureka's or Holland's own) or PUNCHING him for no justifiable reason, it's hard to sympathize with him. It's true that Holland stops being an abusive dickhead halfway through but... keep in mind, this is a 50 episode long anime. That means it takes 20 or so episodes for him to stop abusive Renton. That's longer than some entire anime. I'd say the worst part was when he punches Renton for wanting to ride some waves at a certain place... I don't even remember the details (I've only seen it once at the time I'm typing this), but apparently something about his past in the military meant that Holland punched a 15 year old kid because of some trauma he faced. I wouldn't really mind it as much if he gave Renton a serious apology. Renton is the bigger man for moving on, and honestly... when he runs away from the Gekko and lives with the Bean Couple for a few episodes, I didn't blame him AT ALL. He's never as annoying as Eureka's kids as there's always a certain feeling that his abuse is supposed to be seen as wrong, plus he is actually a badass, but it's difficult to just move past his acts of child abuse. The villain doesn't really get the spotlight until the end, but he's enjoyable for what we do see of him. As for the plot, it's well-written and fun, but never delves into anything too thought provoking. It's shounen after all. I will say that it's an amazing love story. Not a single romance is brought out of nowhere. Every character interaction is built up, or if it's a pre-established relationship, the audience still gets a flashback of how the couple met. I'm not into romance shows, but for what it was, the romance here was engaging. While the mech battles (mechas on giant hoverboards to be exact) were good, the main appeal of this show is the characters. I enjoyed all of them (except for those three wastes of sperm that Eureka wastes her time with). Even Holland was enjoyable throughout when you take out the child abuse stuff. In fact, a few minor characters of the Gekko had a lot of unused potential. Especially Moondoggie and Matthew (Mattieu?). Above all else, this show is optimistic. I don't mean like Cardcaptor Sakura's tone where everything is happy. I mean... this anime can get dark at times, but the amount of idealism that shines through it is childish, but that's part of it's charm. It was able to make me crack a smile several times just from the scenes between Eureka and Renton. Hell, sometimes, the music alone can make me grin because I know something awesome is about to happen. Finally, the ending was great. Nothing groundbreaking, but still an extremely rewarding experience. It has a very slow start though, taking 20 episodes to get good. After episode 20 though, it's highly memorable. Aside from the great characters and good story, the music is awesome, the animation is awesome for 2005/2006, and the voice acting is pretty good too. I wouldn't write it off because of the slow start, but at the same time, I know how skeptical a person would probably get if I said that it gets better after 20 episodes. The start isn't awful though, so if you enjoy that, you'll love the rest. |

Those episodes were pretty good, but with improved voice acting and animation, it's phenomenal. The dub is perfect, the music is great, and the emotion is heartfelt. I was in awe at the climax. Simply amazing work. |

Even better than the first movie! The plot diverges from the original anime, giving very welcome changes. Shinji is a freaking badass! Yeah, he whines a little, but none of it is unjustified (Gendo making Eva Unit 01 nearly kill Asuka was frustrating to watch). The action gave me freaking goosebumps! The music, especially the song in the climax, "Give Me Wings," is masterfully composed. I shed a tear during the climax. The twist at the end is making me eager for the next film, but sadly, Funimation is taking their sweet time releasing it. |

Hilarious. This is the highlight of what a gag anime can be. Excel can get annoying at times, yes, but I feel that's the point. Aside from that, EVERYONE is hilarious from Pedro, his Sexy Wife, Sandora, The Great Will of the Macro-cosmos, to That Man. If I had to pick a standout, it'd definitely be Lord Il Palazzo, who I am saluting right now. HAIL IL PALAZZO! The humor definitely isn't for everyone, but it certainly made me laugh. Strangely enough, a few scenes actually had an emotional impact on me. This show can actually take itself seriously sometimes without losing its good sense of humor. I know not everyone will love it, but I recommend that everyone give it a try. They'll know if it's for them by the end of the first episode. On a side note, that opening still won't leave my head... |

It started off as a pretty good shounen. There was a lot of comedy, and a little too much fanservice, but nothing too bad. The characters were archetypal, but entertaining. In fact, it stayed exciting to watch through the Tenroujima arc, which ended at around episode 130 or so. And then came a long filler arc... and after that, a tournament arc with too much padding. There's fanservice and unfunny humor all over the place. And aside from that, Lucy, who was the most annoying character, is being promoted to the focus of the series. It lost my interest by the end, and Fairy Tail 2014 is getting even worse. It's becoming less of a shounen action and more of a shounen action harem show. The music is addictive though. Worse than the fanservice, the fights are getting old. Fairy Tail's guild is too overpowered. They never lose. They'll get the shit beat out of them, supposedly lose, stand up, make a friendship speech, and then win their fight, usually in one hit. Power level consistency should be the one thing a shounen anime can get right. At one moment, Natsu is beating Laxus up because of the power of friendship, and in a later arc, Laxus puts up a better fight against the big bad than the whole of Team Natsu combined. And then there's Happy, who beats the shit out of an enemy guild with FISH. Is Happy supposed to be a badass? Was that to emphasize how weak this guild is? Was it suppose to be funny? (It wasn't.) I don't want to rant because people love this anime a lot. If I had to guess, Fairy Tail and Naruto are, to this generation, what One Piece, DBZ, and Yu Yu Hakusho were to me as a kid. I'll end it at "It has it's appeal, but it's not for me." Maybe you'll like it. I outgrew it. |

The end of the Magic Games was pathetic and forced. That entire final battle is all I needed to see. Erza wins a fight in one slash because she's Erza. "What did you expect? That's our Erza! No one can beat Fairy Tail! We're awesome!" This is not an anime or manga storyline. This is fanfiction written by Fairy Tail's #1 fan! Everyone respects the guild unconditionally and yields to them for no reason. Minerva ACTUALLY saved Lector because... I DON'T KNOW! Wouldn't it be a more effective move as a villain to have her lie to Sting about saving Lector? If she lied about it and used Sting by manipulating her, it would've been an in-character, perfectly believable, yet despicable plot as a villain. Plus, Sting's plan of standing around doing nothing while the protagonists exhaust themselves is BULLSHIT. First off, if he went through with it, he'd get his ass kicked anyway. Second, he doesn't go through with attacking them because it's "too underhanded" despite breaking NONE of the rules. Third, I really want to see his guild beat the shit out of him for this! He threw the match because... shounen cliche! ARGH! THIS IS MAKING ME HATE THE SHOUNEN GENRE! ITS UNINSPIRED CRAP! Fights lack suspense because I know NO ONE CAN DIE! Everyone who supposedly dies comes back later, or is shown in a brief scene to confirm that they didn't die. This is worse than 4kids edits! It's the official story! Aside from that, the characters started off archetypal and are divulging into annoyingly cliche shitheads! The jokes are repetitive, and no one has developed since episode one! Okay, this isn't the worst anime ever, but it's terrible in so many ways despite its popularity that I can't forgive it. Even though I whine about Naruto and Bleach more, I think they're more inspired than this! I'd rather see a writer try to do something with his work and fail miserably than have a writer take a bunch of safe cliches and combine them into a bland, never ending story of shounen fights and fillers. I don't even care what happens to Natsu, why Igneel left, where he is now... etc. You know why? Because I've come to the realization that I'll probably never find out. This show will keep going on and on until it stops being popular, at which point they'll just make up more contrived shit to explain the opened plot holes and unexplained plot points. |

Great premise, shitty delivery. The story gives forced exposition to explain what's going on. A lot of characters are given little development, and for the first 12 episodes, the fights have no purpose. They're just skirmishes with no victor because something always interrupts the fights. Aside from that, the fights later on range from boring to "pretty good" but they never impressed me. Aside from Archer's Unlimited Blade Works, which made me pretty impressed, the fights were generic. Saber's fight with Assassin was just them clashing swords in the exact same fashion until Saber gets in the finishing blow. The ending conflict between Kotomine and Shirou was fairly entertaining, as well as Saber and Gilgamesh's final showdown. And I have to admit, for all the things this show gets wrong, Saber and Shirou's relationship is handled pretty well. They make a good couple and their relationship is never forced. Saber retains her independence without being a mere accessory to Shirou's character, and even when she realizes her feelings for him, those feelings never get in the way of her own goals. The voice acting is also perfectly fine. Jamieson Price as Kirei Kotomine and Liam O'Brian as Archer are the standout performances of the dub. Everyone else is passable. All in all, it's not a bad anime, but it's far from good. There are better ways to spend your time. If someone were to say "I'm bored. I'll go watch Fate/Stay Night," I wouldn't stop them, but I wouldn't ask to join them either. However,, from what I understand, this is a bad adaptation of a well-written visual novel. It's being remade, so I plan on watching the upcoming 2014 Fate/Stay Night. Perhaps that will be better. |

A step up from the original anime! The action is awesome, and the plot between Shirou and Archer is handled well. Everything else is rushed though. Again, it's a step in the right direction, but the plot is pretty rushed. It establishes some stuff, but we don't get the motives of the villains, the backstories of the masters and servants, or their motives behind wanting the grail. Several questions are raised and never answered. "How does Rin know who Illya and Berserker are? What happened to Kiritsugu, the man who saved Shirou's life from the fire? Why is the Caster duo doing evil stuff? What does Shinji want with the grail? What does Kirei want with the grail? What is Gilgamesh's goal? Why is Gilgamesh here when there should only be 7 servants? What happened in Rin's past that she's so embarrassed/upset about? What are the command seals? Why is Assassin always at the gate? Why is Shinji such a dick? Why does Shirou heal so quickly all the time? What are the servants' identities?" I could go on, but I won't. For a supplement to the Fate series, it's enjoyable. For a standalone movie, it's confusing. |

All of the characters are amazing. Each has a motive and a purpose. The pacing, barring the info-dump first episode, is awesome. Each conflict has some long-lasting result. Nothing is pointless filler. Especially when compared to Fate/Stay Night 2006, this is a piece of art. The voice acting ranges from average (Irisviel) to outstanding (Rider). Both sub and dub are incredible. The animation is cinematic, the music is enough to give me goosebumps on its own, and the story and characters are both interesting. Sadly, the cliffhanger at episode 13 means that the second half will have to wait, but the first half of Fate/Zero builds it up so well that I expect nothing but greatness. It's not amazing yet, but it's certainly a promising set up. |

The second half doesn't do anything to disappoint. Kirei's descent to evil is astounding! Kayneth and Lancer's defeat is handled magnificently to show how cruel and calculating the machine we call "Kiritsugu Emiya" can be. Kariya's suffering pained me to watch, but only because of how magnificent it was as a work of tragedy! Finally, the reveal of the Grail's true nature was scared! It gave me chills to see the psychological horror it gave Kiritsugu as he realized that his ideals were mislead this entire time. Rider and Waver's bromance was heartwarming, especially near the end of Rider's final battle with Gilgamesh. Kiritsugu's backstory is so well-written, I don't think I've ever seen better writing out of an anime. The music was still amazing, the animation is even better than in the first half, and finally, every character interaction made the characters feel like people who warranted their own novel. Kiritsugu may be the main focus near the end, but everyone was given more than enough time to complete their character arc. This is currently the greatest anime I've ever seen in terms of writing. I hope to see the next Fate/Stay Night take this sort of route. |

It'd be a rank higher without all the filler and wasted time with mooks. Seriously. Wtf? This show could be 30 episodes or so if you just keep the important stuff. But Raoh was a pretty cool villain. I love when he shows respect to worthy opponents. Especially when Shin died protecting the children from Souther and Raoh just says "His final moments were splendid!" Truly badass. Kenshiro is also surprisingly compelling. I love how gentle his heart is despite his willingness to kill any villain that crosses him. I don't like the portrayal of women though? This show thinks that women should always be protected by men no matter what, always, 100% of the time. If a woman becomes a warrior, she's doomed to misery. That's pretty misogynistic, guys. I guess we won't get many good women characters in anime until the 1990's then. |

But seeing Kaname and Sousuke in their darkest moments was great! Kaname when Sousuke can no longer protect her, and Sousuke when he has to leave Kaname without explaining why. It shows how much they really love each other despite their outbursts. And that's why they're actually my favorite anime couple. And how can I forget? Mr. Gates is Ladd Russo on crack! He's a great villain. |

Oh god! We'll be here all day if I list all the problems with this show. Yuki is the most inconsistent protagonist I've ever seen. He will be a dumbass, a loser, a tactical genius, a fighting pro, someone who's terrified of Yuno, someone who loves and trusts Yuno, someone who wants to kill Yuno, or someone who wants to kill all his friends, whenever the plot demands it. Yuno is the most unsympathetic bitch in anime history, and she's not even the fun kind of crazy. The villains are retarded and always let the protagonists win because they're too stupid to use their resources properly. Not ONCE to Yuki and Yuno outsmart or outmaneuver their opponents by being competent. They win through their enemies' stupidity. Sixth keeps making speeches and setting Yuno up to be raped instead of killing her, Fifth plays a dumb life or death game instead of breaking the vaccine for the protagonists, 9th blows up the school one room at a time instead of blowing up all the hostages to get Yuki and Yuno out of her way faster (she was blowing up random parts so she clearly doesn't care about the hostages anyway), and 11th has no back up plan for if this IS the real Gasai Yuno (thus letting Yuno open the vault and kill him), and most insulting of all, when the 7ths get Yuki and Yuno's diaries, they idiotically decide to hold onto them for several days instead of just... I dunno, BREAKING THEM! They gain NOTHING from letting Yuki and Yuno live, and, surprise surprise! The two show up later, take their phones back, and KILL the idiots who should've just broken them when they had the chance. Oops. -.- This is the dumbest show I've seen ever! Oh! I forgot to mention that the characters barely look at their diaries (something they should be checking constantly), the diaries only tell them things at the last moment or withhold information from the protagonists to elicit a surprised reaction from them (making the FUTURE diaries rather pointless), and on one occasion, Yuki's Diary flat out LIES to him as an excuse to make him slaughter his friends. It never gives him misinformation before or afterwards, but now that Yuno is tricking him, the diary does so as well. -.- This was a manga written by monkeys, I'm sure. |

Beautifully written, directed, and adapted, but.... some things can be too hopeless. If you can watch this without crying, that's one thing, but if you can watch this movie without feeling anything... you're a soulless monster. |

Terrible doesn't begin to describe the amount of frustration and hatred that built up from merely watching those 12 episodes. I feel bad for Hideki Anno for being associated with those episodes. I'd rather watch The Passion of Christ three times in a row than rewatch that arc. |
