Cowboy Bebop (TV) Masterpiece What is there not to say about Cowboy Bebop? Beyond a doubt one of the best animes ever, especially considering how many non-anime fans have somehow seen the series and fallen in love with it as well. It is a testament to Cowboy Bebop how years after it premiered, people are still rediscovering it. The animation is top quality (literally leaving you slack-jawed), the soundtrack my Yoko Kanno (also of Ghost In The Shell fame) is mind-numbingly gorgeous, both the English and Japanese voice acting is beyond superb, and the story - god, the story! Spike Spiegel is one of the most memorable main characters ever presented, with one of the most interesting personal histories as well. The way the series of twenty-six episodes develops the relationships between Spike, Faye Valentine, Jet Black, and Ed, as well as slowly reveals their respective pasts, leaves each episode with a hint of suspense and anticipation. The general character development, even of minor one-episode characters, is fantastic. Of the main four, who cannot find themselves completely amused by Ed. Cowboy Bebop has single-handedly left some of my friends in love with Corgis, and, admittedly, I find myself enjoying the ultimate villain presented in Vicious. Even though he is only present in a few of the episodes, and is a minor character at that, it should speak miles that Vicious leaves such an indelible mark. The combination of a science fiction premise with a generous helping of blues and jazz make for the most unique combination (that isn't completely ridiculous) presented in the anime genre, setting into course a chain reaction of blends starting with Samurai Champloo. Everyone should do himself a favor and watch this series (and don't forget to throw in the movie at least four episodes from the end, to make the series smooth and complete)! Okay, three, two, one, let's jam!

Prétear (TV) Very good Do you: a) like Sailor Moon? b) enjoy Fushigi Yuugi and c) want something that is shorter, sweeter, and a bit more to the point than the previous two? Then Pretear is ideal for you! Most everyone has a soft spot for Magical Girl shows, and this one will be no exception to the rule. Himeno, however, is definitely an improvement over Usagi and Miaka respectively. She is a bit more rough, more independent and very self-empowered, leaning toward a Tom Boy even. And, of course, after she discovers that she is the Pretear, she inherits her own set of guardians (surprise!) called Leafe Knights. Or rather, a male harem. It will come of no surprise that *gasp!* she finds herself mysteriously attracted to one of two of her and that will lead to quite a bit of drama down the road. For some (obvious) reason, parts of Pretear simply scream of (Fushigi Yuugi's) Miaka and Tamahome. Poor Hayata even has the same hair color and quite possibly hair length. However, I do enjoy that a good majority of Himeno's Leafe Knights are very young, ranging on an educated estimate of eight years old to four years old. Also, the whole Pretear, Leafe, and pret idea is something rather new (at least to my knowledge). Entertaining on the basest of levels at least and will leave you with a squishy good feeling once the (blessedly) short anime ends, Pretear is for those moments when you want to watch something that will not take too much brain power. To be truthful, there is actually a good "morale of the story" behind the thirteen episodes, and I will happily be showing Pretear to my younger cousin in the future. Every girl needs a Magical Girl who has an attitude for once and is not stepped all over so easily, after all. And though the quality of the animation and water-splashed backgrounds is merely average, you can take pride in the fact that you will be humming the theme song ("White Destiny") for several weeks to come!
