Ah! My Goddess (TV) So-so The quintesential "magic girlfriend" anime. For die-hard fans of the genre this is a must-see, but for anyone else I would recommend Chobits insted.
Beast Wars: Transformers (U.S. TV) Weak Primative CG put to use to advertise for the new wave of Transformer toys.
Bible Black (OAV) Bad Ridiculous hentai. (Is there any other kind?)
(La) Blue Girl Returns (OAV) Awful The original La Blue Girl got pretty plot oriented by the end. By the end of it, there were moments where it seemed like it was threatening to stop being a porno. It never stopped being silly, perverted fun though. It's a shame that this OVA had to come along and ruin everyone's good time. This OVA pretends that it is something that it's not ... or rather, it tries not to be something that it definitely is: porno. In La Blue Girl Returns, they pretty much drop the idea that the anime will be a premise by which to present weird sex scenes. It turns into a serious story in which the Shikima clan is challanged by these freaky butterfly demons who take over the Shikima realm and get a bunch of human girls pregnant there. The upshoot of this is that we get lots and lots of naked pregnant girls who start birthing giant, baby-sized caterpillars. I am okay with demon porn. I am okay with demon tentacle porn. I am not okay with pregnant girls with girl bugs crawling out of their vaginas. I turned it off. There is a lot of fucked up porn out there that I will watch, but there has to be a line. Caterpillars are it.
Bronze: Zetsuai Since 1989 (OAV) Worst ever Oh God ... THE HORROR. SO BAD I WANT TO DIE WHEN I THINK OF IT. After the first OVA left off without so much as one lousy sex scene, I figured I owed it to myself to stick it out until one came. That was one of the biggest misakes of my life. The sequal tops even the first one, making it the angstiest, most painful, most unwatchable, most badly animated torture device I have ever seen. This is not just the worst anime of all time. This is the worst movie, TV series or straight to video release of all time. It wasn't even 45 minutes, but I couldn't watch the whole thing. It seemed like days. YEARS. I barely got halfway. It nearly killed me to do so.
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) Weak CLAMP cashes in on the Pokemon craze.
Ceres, Celestial Legend (TV) Not really good Angsty shojo with bishi boys.
Dragon Ball Z (TV) Bad Even if I wanted to, I could never watch all of this.
Human Crossing (TV) So-so A series of slice of life vignettes, some better than others. The best so far is about a father deciding to get his son a bicycle.
Kirby: Right Back At Ya! (TV) Weak Anyone who would actually sit through 91 episodes of this diserves some kind of medal. For wasting time.
(The) Melody of Oblivion (TV) Awful Certainly one of the worst animes I have ever seen. This is a perfect example of how every asshole in Japan thinks he can turn a profit writing manga and getting it picked up as an anime.
Ninja Scroll (TV) Weak This is Ninja Scroll without the graphicly depicted sex/violence or high quality animation that made the classic movie great. Totally Lame. Most disappointing anime ever.
Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat (TV) Not really good This unsettling, musical-number-filled sugar-fest is kawaii on crack.
Pokémon (TV) Bad *rolls eyes* Can we really even call this anime? These are 24 minute commercials for the toys, video games and cards.
Saiyuki (TV) Worst ever The laziest animation I have ever seen. Totally unwatchable.
Street Fighter (U.S. TV) Bad Deliciously stupid.
Witch Hunter Robin (TV) Awful Possibly the most uneventful anime of all time, this plot-hole-riddled series follows the same prosaic formula every episode up until #15: We are at headquarters; something wierd is happening; we investigate; said wierdness turns out to be caused by a witch; the problem resolves itself with little or no participation from the flat and uninteresting title character. Episode #15 goes as follows: We are at headquarters; secret agents attack headquarters; bishi anti-hero "dies" in order to return later; title character is forced to hide out in rented apartment. This is easily the best episode. 16-25 follow the exact same plotline as the first 14, but headquarters is replaced with said apartment. Viewers may suffer deja vu when the apartment is attacked by the aforementioned secret agents as the series draws close. Finalle consists of trite "chosen one" cliche`s. I made it through episode #25 before I gave up completely.
Yu-Gi-Oh! (TV 1/1998) Bad *rolls eyes* Can we really even call this anime? These are 24 minute commercials for the toys, video games and cards.
