| This movie is worth watching if just for the scene where the four girls kill each other in the lighthouse. |
| BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad (TV) | Very good |
| This is one of only two series that can think of that I've seen that has absolutely no explosions. The pacing is kind of slow, but I think that kind of helps to show that it's a bit more realistic than most anime. |

| Cowboy Bebop (TV) | Masterpiece (dub & sub) |
| You'll notice that this is one of only TWO titles out of 200+ that I've seen in part or in whole that I've given a Masterpiece rating. If that doesn't show you how good I think it is, I don't know what will. |
| Cowboy Bebop: The Movie | Very good (sub), Excellent (dub) |
| Honestly, I think Cowboy Bebop is best watched in English. Maybe it's because of the Western (global Western, not U.S. Western) style of the whole thing. Also, the sub script for the movie is pretty bland compared to the dub. |
| Crest of the Stars (TV) | Very good |
| Death Note (TV) | Good |
| Dragon Ball Z Movie 1: The Deadzone | Not really good |
| Dragon Ball Z Movie 3: The Tree of Might | So-so |
| Elfen Lied (TV) | Very good |
| Show starts with graphically severing limbs and exploding heads. Show progresses into harem territory. Show resolves with romantic drama. Why these elements work together as well as they do, I have no idea. |
| Ergo Proxy (TV) | So-so |
| Escaflowne: The Movie | Not really good |
| The movie really doesn't retain the same feel as the series at all. It's almost as if the story was changed at it's very foundation. Nothing in the movie functions like it does in the series. I really don't have much good to say about this one. |
| Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone (movie) | Very good |
| Excel Saga (TV) | Excellent |
| WARNING! May cause your brain to explode! More seriously, it would have been better without the two dog episodes. But they even managed to make the re-cap episode absolutely hilarious and worth watching. I'd recommend watching a good amount of 80s and 90s anime before watching this one though. And you should definitely watch some of the first season of Fist Of The North Star if you want to have any idea of what's going on at the end. |
| Fafner (TV) | Decent |
| Fate/stay night (TV) | Good |
| Fist of the North Star (TV) | Decent |
| FLCL (OAV) | Excellent |
| Kamon (Naota's Dad):"Naota. Tell me already. What does FLCL mean?" Naota: "I dunno." Kamon:"C'mon! There's no way the main character wouldn't know." Shigekuni (Naota's Grandpa):"We won't get mad. Tell us!" Naota: "You too, grandpa? It doesn't matter what FLCL is." |
| Full Metal Panic! (TV) | Excellent (dub & sub) |
| I'll admit, I don't think Full Metal Panic! is the best anime that I've ever seen. It is, however, by far, my favorite. It was the first series that I started buying without having seen any of it at all, and I fell in love with it right away. Great mix of action, comedy, and romance. |
| Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV) | Excellent |
| Rather than write up some comments here, I'll just link to my post in the forum about it. |
| Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (OAV) | Good |
| Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) | Excellent (dub & sub) |
| If the first season hadn't completely confirmed my love of FMP, this one definitely did. No arm slaves in this one. The story deviates from the main plot and instead tells some side stories that give us some idea of normal life at Jindai High. Don't expect normal life at Jindai to be normal though. And don't think that because there aren't any arm slaves that there isn't plenty of action. Kaname's expressions in the last episode are priceless. Great follow up to the first series. |

| Great Teacher Onizuka (TV) | Very good |
| Make sure that you watch the anime before the live-action version. Why? Because the live-action version, which actually preceded the anime, is so much better. The anime is very good, but it still can't match the live-action show. |
| GTO Drama Special (live-action) | Excellent |
| GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (live-action TV) | Excellent |
| You have to watch this show at least once in your lifetime. This show is absolutely amazing. |
| GTO: The Movie (live-action) | Good |
| I think they just made the movie to milk some more money off of the franchise. It's really nothing special, and doesn't add much to the GTO franchise. But if you want to know what that phone call was about at the end of the TV special, then you should probably watch this. |

| Inuyasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass | Decent |
| InuYasha the Movie 3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler | Good |
| This is probably the best of the Inuyasha movies if only because rather than being more like a side story, it actually adds something new by exploring the past of some of the main characters. Definitely recommended for fans of the series. |

| Legend of the Galactic Heroes (OAV) | Masterpiece |
| This is the second of only TWO titles out of the 200+ that I've seen in part or in whole that I've given a Masterpiece rating. Dare I even say that this one is even better than the other Masterpiece. For some reason, I could never watch less than five episodes at a time. This is NOT your average boring sci-fi political action drama (coughGundamWingcough). I can't recommend LOGH enough. If you can get past the first episodes where you're being bombarded with new characters and thrown right into the middle of a huge war, then you will definitely get drawn into the world of this show. You might even lose some sense of reality in the process. If you find that you can't watch this show for less than an hour at a time once it gets going, don't say I didn't warn you. |

| After watching this, I must say that its only ties to the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross are the mech/uniform designs, Roy Focker, and the name of the OVA. Although it purports to be a sequel to SDF Macross, it turns the entire idea of "Protoculture" into something more akin to Native American mythology in an attempt to make the story seem more grandiose. They also suggested that someone had come up with a theory on "Protoculture" before the Zentradi even came around. It's obvious that in the main series, no one on Earth had even heard of the idea of "Protoculture," let alone the specific term. Setting these issues aside, the OVA looks very nice, although I still don't really like the combination of 2D and 3D animation. The two styles always seem to clash with each other. The story, however flawed, is also told well, which is more important than whether it follows the tradtition of the original or not. |
| Magic Knight Rayearth (TV) | Good |
| Magic Knight Rayearth 2 (TV 2) | Good |

| Some have called this a typical shounen action show. I can't help but disagree. This show feels weird. It's kind of disorienting like the Utena movie. It's definitely worth watching. |

| My initial impression after seeing the first episode was, "Wow, this show is not good!" But even while thinking that, I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face. It's a ridiculous high school fighting anime. Not even 10 minutes in, the main character is attacked by a band of faceless fighters from the rival school's wrestling club. Character development takes a backseat to the thin plot and fight scenes. And yet, there's a certain charm that largely comes through the always upbeat female lead and her interactions with her new friend, who recently transferred from the rival school. With only two episodes, there isn't a whole lot of time for the charm to wear off, but there also isn't enough time for the full plot to develop or conclude. I'm guessing this was an OVA made primarily for fans of the manga, as the manga has 18 volumes. Overall, it's a decent watch if you're willing to get sucked in laugh at the ridiculousness. |
| Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) | Excellent |
| This is a series that, for better or worse, changed the mecha genre of anime forever. As an anime fan, you owe it to yourself to see this series at least once, whether you like it or not. |
| Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth (movie) | Good |
| Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (movie) | Very good |
| Nishi no Yoki Majo - Astraea Testament (TV) | Decent |
| Overall, this is a decent series. The major problem that it has, however, is that it can't quite decide which direction it wants to go. Several potential storylines were introduced, but it never completely followed through on any of them. Perhaps if it had been longer, then the series could have properly explored these other possibilities further. |

| Oh My Goddess! (OAV) | Very good |
| Outlaw Star (TV) | Very good |

| This show is an odd one. It would be better if the episodes in the middle that constitute about half of the series weren't bogged down with filler. Did I mention that the show is only 12 episodes long? |
| Pilot Candidate (TV) | So-so |
| Planetes (TV) | Very good |
| Some may consider space to be the final frontier, but, seriously, there's a long way to go between where we are now and where sci-fi writers generally think we could be in the distant future. Planetes takes a look at the not-so distant future where we see the very beginnings of space colonization. This is not, however, some heroic sci-fi fantasy tale. The main characters of this show are in the Debris section of a private company. In other words, they are trash collectors in space. Garbage men. Space travel is pretty glamorous, eh? |

| RahXephon (TV) | Excellent |
| People like to call this one an Evangelion clone. While they do share some degree of similarity, RahXephon is far from being a clone. Evangelion rewrote a lot of the rules. Of course a show that had such a large impact would have an influence on what came after it. RahXephon is a great show on its own merits and, in my opinion, is even better than Evangelion. |

| Requiem from the Darkness (TV) | Very good |
| Dark horror series with a pretty unique look and feel. Definitely a good one to watch. |
| Revolutionary Girl Utena (TV) | Very good |
| Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie | Good |
| This movie is very odd. The visuals are somewhat disorienting. You might need to watch it a couple of times so you can get used to it and figure out just what is going on. I'm not a big fan of the shoujo-ai undertones. |
| Rumbling Hearts (TV) | Decent |
| I knew from the very beginning of the show what it would be like. And I was absolutely right. Standard personality deficient but nice guy male lead and tsundere girl like each other but won't admit it. Moe girl likes Mr. Bland and does the whole confession thing. The two start dating even though he doesn't actually like her that much. Angst ensues. The series would have been better off if it had been cut to four episodes because the angst in the middle is pretty pointless. It's not a bad series, but I don't think it's nearly as good as some people say it is. |
| Rurouni Kenshin (TV) | Very good |
| It might be too early to call this one a classic, but it is certainly among the best samurai shows out there. |

| Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei (TV) | Very good |
| School Rumble (TV) | Excellent |
| On the surface, this might look like an average school comedy. This couldn't possibly be further from the truth. If you're looking for deep character development and proper resolution of...um...anything, then you're in the wrong place. The show starts with a simple love triangle, or at least, the idea of the love triangle is simple. However, the show is at it's best when it starts to drift away from that triangle. Much hilarity ensues. You need to see this show. |

| If you're planning on watching all three Slayers series, I don't recommend watching them all back to back. Give yourself a few weeks or months in between each one. By the time you get to this, the third series, it might feel like the story has been dragging on and on forever. And it doesn't help that this one isn't quite up to par with the other two. |

| (The) Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? (movie) | Very good |
| Alternate and condensed re-telling of the original Super Dimension Macross series. So much stuff was changed that I really didn't want to like it. I tried pretty hard not to like it. All of my efforts failed though. If you haven't seen the series, though, you're going to be pretty confused as they don't explain much about what's going on to begin with. It should be enjoyable for fans of the series, though. |

| Voices of a Distant Star (OAV) | So-so |
| It's a nice little story. It's very good for being an independent project. The creator only worked with a few other people and made it without the help of a large studio. However, I can't bring myself to understand the hype around it. It seems heavily inspired by Top wo Nerae (Gunbuster), but it's really only about the two characters who are separated by time and space. If you want to see a guy and a girl say "I wish you were here" for 20 minutes or so, then give it a try. Otherwise, you might want to spend your time differently. |
