The Highest Honors Rating Comment
Angel Beats! (TV) Masterpiece Too much to say about this. This series definitely has a lot going for it. I have only one complaint about the whole thing, that is, that it couldn't really delve into everyone's history as there were a lot of characters to pack in. Everything else about it certainly helped make this one of my favorite series of all time.

Another (TV) Masterpiece Another. This is a show that really takes a newer look at the horror genre. Although after a few episodes it's not so much a horror (of course I was watching in the day) as it is a psychological slaughter fest. You start to wonder who the next person is that is going to die and you get wrapped up in the mystery of Class 3-3. This show is really intense and it draws you in.

(The) Anthem of the Heart (movie) Excellent
B: The Beginning (ONA) Excellent
Baccano! (TV) Masterpiece Another amazing one. Watching Baccano! is like watching a horrendous train robbery gone wrong, only to find out that you've actually been watching something else entirely...like My Little Pony, where the ponies try to kill each other but most of them are immortal. Yes, as you're watching it, you're as confused as that statement made you, but then as you put the pieces of the puzzle together, you realize that this is actually a very complex, interesting story.

Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts (TV) Masterpiece What happens when you put people in class based on their test grades? You get Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. While the story itself is pretty simple (Aki wants to get a better classroom for Himeji since she has poor health), the slapstick comedy is definitely top-notch. The way it's presented is pretty unique as well, utilizing chibi characters at the bottom of the screen talking amongst themselves and other such things. Overall, definitely really well done.

Although I have rated its second season lower (because there's a little less comedy, and little more seriousness, although still quite funny), both the first season and second season receive: Highest Honors!
Ben-To (TV) Excellent I was very skeptical at first about this show. How can you pull off a show based on fighting over half-price ben-to boxes? Yet, that's where the charm was. The show had an almost too serious tone about itself, yet managed to remain completely light. It was this that really made the show that much more funny. 'Cause seriously, a bunch of kids fighting over half price lunches is ridiculous, right? Right?

Bodacious Space Pirates (TV) Masterpiece
Castle in the Sky (movie) Masterpiece Castle in the Sky. Just yes.

This is my personal favorite Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki film. Laputa, a floating castle in the sky really just captures my imagination. The story is fantastic and the music is some of my favorite of Joe Hisaishi. This is just one of the most fantastic movies I've ever seen.

Children Who Chase Lost Voices (movie) Excellent Hoshi o Ou Kodomo. I wasn't sure that this was something that I'd like. It's certainly different than most of the stuff I watch since I tend to lean more towards comedies, slice of life type shows and movies. However, as soon as I started watching this, I was hooked. This movie offers a lot of insight into "coming-of-age" and learning how to cope with the loss of a loved one. It has an eerie stillness about it a lot of the time, interspersed with some gunfights and shadow monster attacks.

This movie, actually, compares well to the Wii exclusive game, Fragile Dreams: Sayonara Tsuki no Haikyo. They both go along similar lines, and deal with similar ideas. Both stories are incredibly heart-wrenching but certainly more bearable than Grave of the Fireflies for example.

(The) Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (movie) Excellent Oh, Haruhi, how we all adore thee. Miss I-can-do-god-like-things-to-the-world has gone missing and Kyon is the only who remembers her going to the same school as him. But what has caused this? This movie was certainly a breath of fresh air after the 2009 TV Renewal. Eight episodes...of the SAME THING. The hijinks everyone is up to in the beginning give a funny opening with the weirdness of Haruhi missing looming in the background. As the movie progresses, the movie becomes more serious in nature but retains a lot of what made the series and the manga so popular in the first place.

ERASED (TV) Masterpiece
From the New World (TV) Masterpiece
(The) Future Diary (TV) Excellent
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (TV) Masterpiece
(The) Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie) Excellent A real attention grabber with a unique story that I had not seen until this movie. While most of the hilarity lies in the first half of the movie, the serious part of it was also really good.

Hayate the Combat Butler (TV) Masterpiece From the very moment when his parents run out on him leaving him with their debt of 156,804,000 yen to everything that happens at the Sanzenin household, there are very few moments when something out of the ordinary doesn't happen to Hayate. And we get to see it all and laugh. This is certainly a show that doesn't require you to be on the inside of certain circles to get jokes and almost everything is material generated for the show from the manga.

(The ")Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat. (TV) Masterpiece
HYOUKA (TV) Masterpiece
Is This a Zombie? (TV) Excellent Man, it sucks to be murdered while in high school, just think of all the things you could miss out on...or not, if you happen to have met a necromancer prior to your death. This is the basis of Koreha Zombie Desuka, and while most of the series is based on the silly little things you get into as a zombie. For example, you fight a genius magical girl and steal her powers, meaning that you are now in charge of fighting monsters in a magical girl outfit.

So really it's just another one of those silly adventure type shows where your ordinary (zombie-like) guy is surrounded by beautiful girls doing what he pleases, or almost...

K-ON! (TV) Masterpiece What happens when you make a show about a school's light music club? You get K-On!, short for Kei Ongaku Buu. The whole premise is that none of the girls that make up the club are actually "good", and yes they do progress some, and that they'd rather just eat cake and drink tea instead of practicing.

However, all the music is catchy. Light and poppy, which is good from a "Light Music" club. It's popularity earned it a second season and a movie, so obviously I'm not the only one who found K-On! to be a great show.

Kämpfer (TV) Excellent Can you imagine how your life would be if a stuffed animal started talking to you and at any given time you could transform into a girl that had to fight against other girls with the same power? I'm sure a lot of people would like the sound of it, but Natsuru finds it to be an inconvenience.

The show overall is full of fan-service, especially of large-breasted Natsuru-"chan" as he learns about being a Kampfer. However, this show is not solely based on the fan-service, like other shows. There's still action between fighting against other Kampfers like the student council president or the girl of his dreams.

The story was pretty interesting, however, when the series ended, you were left with more questions. Sure, this happens a lot in anime, but this time you kinda want those questions to be answered, and answered with more action, fan-service, girl-on-girl fighting sequences. After all, why are those stuffed animals, those horribly mangled stuffed animals, talking? What are Kampfer? How come the evil ones wear white armbands? etc...
