Bleach (TV) Excellent Though at times the pace does drag and fillers can be infuriating, but when it comes to plot and character development this is up there with some of the best.

Glass Fleet (TV) Very good Yet to see the extra DVD episodes, but completed otherwise. At first animation irritated me. I think they spent too much effort on the glass ship and couldn't be bothered with the rest. You also have to fling everything you know about science out the window while watching. And my initial impression of the characters was of cardboard cut-outs with manufactured histories. Admittedly a couple remained that way. However once the story really got going, I forgot its flaws. The plot and characterisations feel similar to an opera, what with the factions, betrayal, insanity and (of course) seduction. It was strangely addictive.

Basilisk (TV) Very good Started watching 2005, finished 2007. Don't feel I can say much on it because of that. I did find the characters original which made the story feel original despite the fact that lovers from warring factions is most definitely not an original concept. Music was perfectly fitting, animation suiting. Though not carried out well enough for me to get completely wrapped up in it, overall it is still a very good watch.

(Le) Chevalier D'Eon (TV) Excellent The highlight of this show for me were the sword fights. No cheating with cut scenes or spending forever focusing on opponents eyes or any of the other cheap tricks many other shows use to get out of making things hard to animate. For that alone I would say 'go watch it'. But this has much more than just cool fights to offer. An intricate plot well carried out. Characters with depth and realistic motivation and development. Overall, a brilliant series.

Chrono Crusade (TV)
Claymore (TV) Excellent Lots of blood and gore, fighting women and imaginatively designed monsters. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, and wondered if there was going to be more to it, but I remember episode 8 really made me sit up and go "Ooooo!" Motives and emotions started making sense. After that it was through shear willpower that I pulled myself away from watching the rest of the series in one sitting. Perhaps the 'ending' was a little predictable, but what can you expect? It's left itself wide open for a sequel though, so I'm expecting conclusions in that. Hopefully it isn't just more "so how do you think she's going to survive this battle?" Regardless of that, it was still very enjoyable. It's impressive that they could make the claymores have enough differences in appearance given they all have blonde hair, silver eyes and exactly the same outfit. Character-wise there was enough variety. However I have to say Raki irritated me through most of it. Strong female lead and weak male lead should have been a refreshing change, but I was quite glad for when Raki wasn't there. Not that I wasn't rooting for him and Clare though. ;) The only thing more irritating than Raki was his voice which didn't seem right, in my opinion. Music, occasionally repetitive, but blended well. All in all, I'm disappointed its over and will pray there is going to be a sequel or I shall be extremely irritated.

Darker than Black (TV) Masterpiece Bewildering but in such a way that it intrigues instead of putting you off. The mix of humour blended with a largely dark overall plot keeps it from getting overwhelmingly depressing, but doesn't hinder the effectiveness of the dark elements. The majority of the series if split into 2-episode story arcs which I think is a much better method than the single-episode arc that is usually used in most series for the beginning of a series. It allows you to get more attached to characters, it allows the arcs to be just that bit more involving, and certainly for the beginning it helps to get to grips with this bewildering world just that bit better. I've heard some people complain about the fact there is more dialogue than action, but this isn't a light series that can be watched without a fair number of braincells working. In terms of characters, they were well developed. Again the 2-episode arcs allowed even the minor characters to have their stories expanded. The soundtrack wasn't to my taste to listen to separately but worked well with the anime. Animation 99% of the time perfect. The odd CG car or whatever didn't harm it. I'm not sure if I want a sequel or not. I fear explaining all the aspects will destroy the mysterious atmosphere which is what this series is built upon. Still if there is a sequel I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting for it. :)
Death Note (TV) Masterpiece A story revolving around the villain. That's not something you see every day. The anime progresses with much the same feel throughout the series. More than just simply an intricate plot, but an unbelievably complex one with unexpected turns at every opportunity. I could perhaps have complained that after a certain point (can't say anything without a spoiler) it did begin to feel rather 'shounen-jump-esque' where it just wanted to keep the story going longer, however by the end I could not hold it against it as it continued to be carried out with the same skill. Characters expertly done. Animation suiting. Music creepy or dramatic depending on the scene (though when listened to separately they sound so different that it's hard to imagine they belonged in the same anime). All-in-all a brilliant intellectual thriller well worth watching.

Descendants of Darkness (TV)
Destiny of the Shrine Maiden (TV)
Dojin Work (TV) Good A good series for light entertainment, no depth and when you just can't quite be bothered watching something for as long (this being only about half the time of a usual episode length). Given how short it is and how short each episode is, it's to be expected that there isn't much I can really comment on. I enjoyed watching it when I needed a break from stressful stuff and didn't want to face anything with a heavy plot. And for that it was definitely worth watching.

Emma: A Victorian Romance Second Act (TV) Very good An perfect continuation to the first series. Really did start to question how it was going to end at times. Always a good thing never to be too predictable. Some excellent new characters to enjoy as well. No particular gripes with it so nothing else to say. A good series all round.
Ergo Proxy (TV)
Eureka Seven (TV)
Excel Saga (TV) Very good I wanted to give it a higher rating, but I rate depending largely on re-watchability and while I really enjoyed the series, I don't have as much desire to watch it again compared to other series. I have to admit, a large amount of the enjoyment for the series came from the guys in the next door flat. Excel, while a hilarious character, only had a dynamic with Ilpalazzo and treated everyone else in much the same manner. I enjoy insanity, but sometimes the humour didn't have much to it. That said, I laughed a lot while watching. Weirdly enough, given my opinion on the need for insane humour to have a little substance, I actually found Episode 26 to be the best of the entire series, and you can't get much more needlessly insane than that. Perhaps that says something. XD
Fake (OAV)
(The) Familiar of Zero (TV) Very good
(The) Familiar of Zero: Knight of the Twin Moons (TV) Very good I don't know what is so appealing about this series, but it is very watchable. The idea isn't exactly the most original, and the characters should appear flat since their characteristics are common in many such animes but when it's put together there is something that makes this stand out, though I can't for the life of me figure out why. This second season felt a bit more mature than the last. Feelings had a bigger part, and there was a surprising amount of emotional moments. But at the same time many episodes had a good laugh, mainly at Saito's wandering eyes. It's hard to complain about something when my expectations of it were so low. I just hope that this wasn't the last season as that ending was less than a satisfactory conclusion.

My only gripes with it were the soundtrack was annoying at times and interfered with otherwise good scenes, and it was disappointing that some parts of the story didn't get a conclusion (presumably you need to read the manga for that). However the final episode was good at bringing the story back round to where the anime started, which was a nice touch. Otherwise good all round.

Genshiken (TV) Masterpiece Calling it a masterpiece seems odd, but if it were ratings it would definitely be 10/10. It's one of those series I can just watch again and again. Characters memorable (except those that aren't supposed to be). Though there isn't much in the way of an overall plot, the single episode plots are well carried out. Music wasn't to my taste to listen to separately but it's perfect for the anime. And above all else it's bloody funny! Isn't that the most important thing.
Genshiken (OAV) Masterpiece Same as Genshiken TV. The OVA is up to exactly the same standards, so no complaints and nothing different to mention. Still very watchable.

Intrigue in the Bakumatsu - Irohanihoheto (TV) Good I wanted to like this a lot more than I did. The episode gave such promise of great things to come. They didn't. At first I couldn't quite get into it fully because of the heavy involvement of historical references. But once I figured things out sufficiently, that was no longer a problem and actually made it more interesting. But by the end it threw history to the wind and went all fantasy-esque. Compared with everything that had happened before, that felt unnatural and contrived. Many people complain about the animation but I didn't notice anything particularly bad about it. Sure there was some lazy moments, but it was a web-only broadcast and personally I've seen worse stuff put on TV. The music was probably what I liked best about this. Very 'listenable'. Characters were ok, though some felt a bit bland and there wasn't much development beyond the main character. But the number of characters brought in (many historical figures) probably prevented focusing on anyone in particular. While episodes generally felt like they had a good pace, it did still feel like it was dragging at points. I wanted to enjoy it, but it was no better than as a heavier-than-normal filler between better series.
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu (OAV)
Jinki:Extend (TV) Good My impression of this: confusing. The two timelines were bewildering, and when they randomly dumped in flashbacks as well, it ended up with never knowing when anything happened relative to the rest. In all honesty, the beginning of this was better than the end. Somewhere along the way it lost itself in the science fiction plot and forgot about characterisations, and ended all too abruptly. But the beginning is where this series really caught my interest and I still like it for that.

Lovely Complex (TV) Excellent So much kansai-ben, how could I not like it? But even beyond the brilliant fun it was to listen to, the characters and story each had plenty to like as well. I was particularly pleased that the story didn't spend an eternity at the beginning with Risa denying her feelings. Things got going quickly and it kept its pace throughout. Most characters got a fair amount of screen time, which was good, though a few of the minor characters did disappear for long periods after their storyline had ended. That's not really that unusual. Overall the series was fun to watch. Very addictive and very watchable.

Moonlight Mile (TV) Good This didn't feel like a first season. More like a 12-episode prologue, and overall nothing much happens, though it does feel like it's building up to something good. The opening is more of a preview of what's to come in the next season. This season felt like it was dragging and rushing at the same time. Episodes up to 9 had a predictable format: whatever mission being taken out, accident occurs, Gorou &/or Lostman come up with a rescue plan, there is some nail biting and everything ends ok. Oh yeah, and Gorou &/or Lostman have sex with yet another woman. By episode 9 things get more original but nothing particularly thrilling happens. That said it does feel like the next season could actually be worth watching since what it's building up to seems promising, so I'll keep watching. Still the animation wasn't brilliant. Lots of CG which I don't mind except when it's poorly integrated with other animation. What I really liked was the soundtrack which I've listened to separately countless times now. Overall it ain't outstanding on its own, but lets hope things improve next time...

Nodame Cantabile (TV) Masterpiece Having grown up with classical music and learnt the violin and piano as a kid, I could probably enjoy this even more than the average viewer. That said, I still think that the music is put across in such a way that you don't have to be a serious classical buff to enjoy it. And most importantly the music is just a part of the plot. The characters are where it really shines. Both Chiaki's and Nodame's growth is well covered in the series. And the other characters have enough depth of their own. The only gripes I could say about it are the animation (when music was being played it varied from panning over still images or obvious CG stuff for movement) and the slightly rushed feel the last few episodes had. Not having read the manga so I don't actually know, but it felt like several chapters were skipped to allow the series to finish in just 23 episodes. I felt like probably character introductions were missing for the later new members. Still these issues are not enough to reduce my rating. Anything that can make me laugh and cry at the same time conveys itself well, and if I'm craving for more then it had to have been good. Least there is the manga and the live action drama to satisfy that craving (for now).

Origin ~Spirits of the Past~ (movie) Very good The animation of this is fantastic, backgrounds in particular. However I feel it's let down by the length of the movie. Certainly the ending feels a bit abrupt and inconclusive which it tries to make up for with a couple of few-seconds-long scenes within the credits, but that doesn't really help. My only other complaint would be some of the seiyuu sound unsuited to their character. But otherwise an interesting story, with a theme of 'living with nature'. I also found it interesting how using things like the sound of a telephone allowed you to make connections with Tula's perspective, despite the world she came from being more futuristic than ours.
Otogi-Jushi Akazukin (OAV) Good For a 35min OVA it was surprisingly well paced, though of course there wasn't a complete conclusion, but what can you expect? Though I thought it was at times excessively cute, that's my personal opinion. The animation was well done, and the designs of the monsters were excellent. The story itself was interesting (though there were certainly some clichéd parts to it) and if it wasn't for the cuteness (like the cat-thing which really bugged me) then I might have pursued the TV series. However this OVA is enough for me.
Ouran High School Host Club (TV) Masterpiece It makes me so very weak and I could watch it a million times over without getting bored. Though I'll admit Honey-sempai does tend to bug me if he's on screen too long, but the other characters more than make up for him. Pure brilliance!
Pale Cocoon (OAV)
Pani Poni Dash! (TV)
Paprika (movie) Masterpiece Absolutely superb movie. It captures the uncapturable essence of dreams and brings into onto the screen in such a way that makes the whole movie feel like a dream. The characters really make this story shine as no character is left without a motive for their actions (except perhaps the short old scientist guy). Was unpredictable to the end, as dreams usually are. The best bit though (in my opinion): the music played during the opening and ending credits. Excellent indeed!

Saiyuki Gunlock (TV) Decent Crappy animation, cheesy and predictable dialogue and plot developments. Too much hanging around talking and classic staring down of opponents. Explanations as to 'why' or 'how' anything occurs are few and far between. It ain't all bad though once you switch off your brain. The characters are definitely the main saving grace (them and their seiyuu are my main interests). It's disappointing more of their history isn't delved into and instead the series is packed full of pointless side-plots (not to say that some of them aren't interesting, and sometimes I couldn't help but get involved). Still, I no longer expect them to ever get anywhere on this journey so the fact that nothing ever changes is irrelevant.

Shura no Toki: Age of Chaos (TV) Decent Started watching 2004, finished 2007. Needless to say my memory of the first half of the series is somewhat fuzzy. What I just watched however I found at times laughably bad. Animation full of short cuts (though some fight scenes were impressive enough). Character designs showed little variation, making it hard to tell people apart. Music, at times suiting, others... more laughing there. To really appreciate the plot better, more knowledge of Japanese history would probably help. But otherwise good on that front. However each episode left me with a feeling that nothing had actually happened. Not to say it felt slow while watching. The credits always surprised me when they started rolling. Still something that left me thinking nothing was going on doesn't feel worthwhile. Overall, interesting in terms of historical titbits and good fight scenes, but am unlikely to watch again.

Sumomomo Momomo - Chijō Saikyō no Yome (TV) Good Perfect for a light show to watch between deeper ones. Cute with added ecchi bonuses. Over-the-top action sequences. Generally an outrageous series, though it was hindered by trying to be too dramatic at times. The soundtrack worked for the fluff that was the majority of the series, but couldn't convey anything more than that. The characters were mostly original, but the majority still not overly memorable. Not a constant laugh riot, but humorous none-the-less.
Tachikomatic Days (OAV)
Tactics (TV) Weak Under normal circumstances I would have dumped this. However because the manga rules, I downloaded the entire series, and through willpower I didn't know I had I watched the lot. Basically this series didn't have a clue what it wanted to be: horror/comedy/action/emotional, it tries them all, and fails at the lot. It even tries to bring in some shounen ai to add to the already overflowing mix. Normally I wouldn't mind, but it would have been nice if the decision was made if that was the motivation of the characters. Instead everything is left up in the air. It really didn't help that the soundtrack was at best unnoticeable, but most of the time just served to spoil any mood that was being developed. The only reason I could bring myself to bear the whole thing was thanks to seiyuu (though, I like Miyata Kouki, but I think he was unsuited to Koutarou in this case) and the odd moment when the characters acted like they do in the manga. Thank goodness for Sugino, even if he served no purpose to the actual plot. He was the only one that consistently carried the feel of the manga into the anime. I shall now try and wipe this anime from my mind and wait impatiently for the manga to come out.
Tales of Eternia (TV)
Tales of Phantasia (OAV) Decent Having not played the game, I was somewhat handicapped watching this. If it had been well done that shouldn't have mattered, but too much of this was left without explanation. Even just more narration between big scene changes would have helped. The story on the one hand was very good with a 'bad guy' who actually had his reasons. On the other hand the random mix of Norse mentions, ninjas (what was the point of that ninja girl anyway?) and various typical fantasy aspects made this rather overwhelming. The animation I thought was quite good (though there were points where fights were kept off screen which was disappointing). The music... heh. I noticed when Origin was summoned they stole a tune from Juuni Kokki. How did they get away with that? Otherwise unimpressive. For only 4 episodes, I'll admit it manages to fit plenty in. But the lack of explanations is a big disappointment and for someone like me who is unfamiliar with the game it just leaves you feeling confused.

Toward the Terra (TV) Excellent I was not expecting something so good. Being a re-make I assumed they were just trying to get more money on an already established fandom. I've since read that the movie was mediocre at best. Having not read the manga I can't compare it to that. But this series was impressive. Characters grow (in age and in personality), and have realistic motivation. 'Bad guys' aren't really bad, but have their own reasons. The storyline, though the base may be typical, is carried out superbly. The music... I'm infatuated with the soundtrack. The first time I listened to it after downloading, it set me off crying, and that was before I'd watched more than 1 episode of the series. There are only two issues I have with this that I can pinpoint. One is animation. It's inconsistent, and I often find the CG elements blend badly, and look less 3D than the 2D scenes (unnatural movements or bad perspective). After a while though I stopped noticing because I was so drawn into the story. The only other problem I felt was the overwhelming number of characters, some of which weren't properly introduced, and others which didn't have a conclusive part at the end. But considering how many of the characters did feature as part of the story, and how many you come to care about, it's more than impressive for a 24 episode series. It had me very emotionally involved and I cried so much. T'was good! :)

(The) Wallflower (TV) Very good Decidedly odd. Some of the humour was just so 'out there' that it went right over my head (particularly every 'goth goth loli loli' scene). Nevertheless it did have some brilliantly funny moments. The character designs aren't really to my liking but I got used to it after a few episodes. Soundtrack fitting, though I wasn't fussed on the first opening or ending. Plot wise it was quite satisfying, with an adequate conclusion. Characters were very well done (over-the-top worked in this case). Enjoyable, but still quite odd (not a bad thing, really).
Welcome to the NHK (TV)
Witchblade (TV) Very good I was anticipating excess of fanservice and over-exaggerated plot lines, but I was pleasantly surprised. The best part of this series, I thought, was the family theme that is present throughout. There was excellent character development brought out through use of it. Though perhaps in terms of plot, some more explanations were missing, and the ending was rather sudden. Some sort of epilogue-like bit at the end would have helped. But otherwise an addictive series.

Bartender (TV) Bad This is simply a very dull anime. Without any humour it lacks anything that makes up for the incredibly simplistic and uninteresting plot (if it can even be called a plot).
Beet the Vandel Buster (TV) Bad Stereotypical and lacking in any feeling of originality.
Best Student Council (TV) So-so Cute but lacking in various aspects.
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (TV) Bad I had been hoping for something in the genre of insane humour, but this feels like it tries to be so insane it forgets to be funny. Perhaps the humour would appeal to more immature audiences.
Brigadoon (TV) Weak Just odd, and not in the good way. A little boring as well.
Burst Angel (TV) Not really good Looks cool but lacks anything else that would make me interested in it.
Buso Renkin (TV) So-so Feels like it's trying too hard. Everything feels over-the-top.
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) So-so A very popular series, this, but as far as I'm concerned it's nothing but average. Perhaps if I'd got further and seen some of the continuing plot rather than the singular episodes then maybe I might have been more interested.
Chocotto Sister (TV) Weak Really don't know what this series is trying to do, other than perhaps cater for those guys who drool over the idea of 'the younger sister' type character.
Comic Party: Revolution (TV) Weak
Daa! Daa! Daa! (TV) Weak Unmemorable.
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue (TV) Not really good I think this was just an excuse to design the skimpiest outfits possible.
Demonbane (TV) Bad Mindnumbing
Desert Punk (TV) Not really good The promo was deceptive. I'd greatly looked forward to this, but was disappointed with every episode until I finally just gave it up as a lost cause.
Di Gi Charat (TV) Not really good Just got to wonder 'why?'
Diamond Daydreams (TV) Weak Bland
Disgaea (TV) Bad
Divergence Eve (TV) So-so May have had something to it, but is rather unmemorable and so not worth the effort of getting it.
El Cazador de la Bruja (TV) So-so It has potential, however... The bounty hunter character is disappointing. Too nice. A major failing! Also the lack of blood disappointed me. Something even slightly more realistic would have been more appealing. Also the fact that it is made by Bee Train worries me, and I suspect this will end with an anti-climax, if it has what can be considered an ending at all. And Ellis bugged me too. There were moments that I liked though. Partically the okama pair. Hilarious! If only there was more about them. XD
Engage Planet Kiss Dum (TV) So-so I did want to give this a fair shot and watch it, but there was just too much out this season that I didn't have time for a mediocre show. And that's all I think this can ever be. I just remember constantly cringing while watching the first episode (namely at the crappy animation), but I totally can't remember the plot. So why bother continuing it?
Eyeshield 21 (TV) Weak
Fantastic Children (TV) Bad
Fate/stay night (TV) Weak
Flag (ONA) So-so
Gallery Fake (TV) Bad
Getsumen to Heiki Mina (TV) Weak
Ghost Hunt (TV) So-so
Gintama (TV) Weak
GUNxSWORD (TV) So-so
.hack//Legend of the Twilight (TV) So-so Cutesy and fun at times, but it's still .hack related and so pretty much a waste of time for someone who hasn't played the game.
Hanoka (TV) Awful
Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time – A Tale of the Eight Guardians (TV) So-so
Hayate the Combat Butler (TV) Not really good
Heat Guy J (TV) Not really good

Hit o Nerae! (TV) Weak
Ichigo 100% (TV) Bad
Inukami! (TV) Bad
Jing: King of Bandits (TV) Not really good
Kappa no Kaikata (TV) Bad
Kaze no Stigma (TV) So-so There's nothing really wrong with it, but it lacks anything that grabs my attention. The background music did bug me, but for the rest of it, it's all pretty average. Nothings unoriginal, but at the same time I still feel like I've seen stuff like that before, so what's the point in watching?
Kekkaishi (TV) Not really good
Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho (TV) Bad I watched the first episode of this because it seemed popular and because I liked another manga by the same mangaka. I was hoping for some particularly hilarious perverted humour, but was given yet another bland harem anime. There was fanservice galore but the creators seem to think that just exposing part of the female body, or someone embarrassed at seeing said body, should be funny. I may have smiled a couple of times (and saying that is being generous), but it most definitely did not make me laugh.
Kiba (TV) Bad
Kirarin Revolution (TV) Weak
Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula (TV) Not really good My main gripe with this one is the main character. His reaction to people being shot in front of him is... well, there isn't one, and that's the problem.
Kokoro Library (TV) Bad
Kujibiki Unbalance (TV) Bad
Kyo no Gononi (OAV) Weak
(The) Law of Ueki (TV) Weak
Legend of the Condor Hero (TV) Not really good
Lucky Star (TV) Awful This has nothing to it. No humour. No plot. No character. No point watching. So... very... dull... ::snore::

MoonPhase (TV) Awful
My Bride is a Mermaid (TV) Not really good It's... alright. Didn't make me laugh though. And what's the point of watching a comedy I don't find funny?
Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water (TV) Weak
Naruto (TV) So-so
Negima!? (TV) Not really good
Nighthead Genesis (TV) Weak

Puni Puni Poemy (OAV) Weak
Ragnarok The Animation (TV) Bad
Rumbling Hearts (TV) Weak
Saint Beast (TV) Bad
Shakugan no Shana (TV) Weak
Shining Tears X Wind (TV) Weak I wanted to watch this mostly for the seiyuu. What put me off was the crappy demon designs. They just made me laugh. Hardly the reaction that I should get during an action scene. The seiyuu didn't save it, so I gave it up.
Sister Princess (TV) Awful
Sisters of Wellber (TV) Not really good There were moments where it impressed me, namely because it wasn't afraid to add some blood or nudity, not because it thought it looked good but because it was right for the scene. On the other hand, the plot is mediocre and unoriginal, and as soon as that talking tank appeared, my opinon of it was decided.
