I purchased this solely because it's by Minekura Kazuya. However, as I'm not a yaoi fan, I couldn't really enjoy it. I know it's technically not yaoi, but the connotations (which this series is full of) made my stomach turn and I guess I expected that, but I've got this compulsion to buy everything Minekura-sensei releases. |

Because only one volume of this has ever been released, the characters are left feeling stuck in their stereotypes and it's a real shame, because I think that, Minekura, with her talent, could've turned this into something amazing. I'm still hoping she'll pick up this series again someday in the future. On the whole, it's pretty decent. |

This was an alternate to the gaiden and season two of the anime series, and to me, as afterthought-ish as those were, this felt just as unnecessary. Being the Hei/Yin fan that I am, I enjoyed seeing them together so much, but the whole thing just felt really weird and kind of amateur, honestly. The artwork was okay, but there was no finesse to how the panels were laid out, or the perspectives and angles used. I haven't read Iwahara Yuji's other works, but I hope they're not as lackluster aesthetically as this. The fights were slow and dragged on needlessly with little development. The dialogue was no where near as good as in the anime and most of it was pure info-dumping. I was hoping for a bit more expansion on Hei's past, but all we got was a very small snippet, whereas the new characters, such as Azusa and Kyouko, had a whole lot of backstory and development, yet I ended up not caring about them in the slightest. Parcel and Champ didn't win me over, either, and Kirihara was, again, utterly useless. Overall, it was disappointing. However, with me being such a fangirl, I was content to just sit back and read just for the Hei/Yin. Basically, if you don't like the idea of that pairing, and you wanted Hei to be with Kirihara, or Amber, or Suou, or someone other than Yin, you won't want to read this. |

I really read this for the character designs, more than anything. They're very aeshetically pleasing and can make up for their lackluster personalities and the blase plot. |

I started off with this not expecting much, but by the end it was beyond amazing. It's deep, the characters are stellar, and by the end you don't even care that it's been nine volumes and they STILL haven't made it to India yet. |

This was an amazing follow-up to Saiyuki. The already fantastic main characters were developed even further, and in a well thought-out manner. It continued with the same depth as before and introduced new characters whom I found rather charming. Also, Ukoku was amazing. Just amazing. |
