Introduction

Game publisher ACQUIRE Corp. began the AKIBA'S TRIP video game series with the first title simply titled AKIBA'S TRIP in 2011 on the PSP. Only released in Japan, this game followed a protagonist who must defeat evil vampires by ripping off their clothes and exposing them to the sun. The game was remade for the PS Vita a year later, but the series reached international fame when its second game--titled AKIBA'S TRIP: Undead & Undressed--was released in North America and Europe in 2014. The AKIBA'S TRIP anime has an original story separate from the games.

Story

Tamotsu has come to the neighborhood of Akihabara, where an urban legend saying that mysterious enemies called "The Bugged Ones" appear is spreading. There, he meets Matome, a girl who fights against The Bugged Ones. After running around the city, meeting up with his sister Niwaka and encountering a girl named Arisa, Tamotsu is caught up in an attack by The Bugged Ones and is mortally wounded. He is able to hold onto his life thanks to Matome's strange powers, but his everyday normal life won't be so normal anymore.

Characters

Tamotsu Denkigai
Voice: Haruki Ishiya

A hobby-loving boy who only has eyes for whatever he's into. He has a tendency to become obsessed with one thing; he gets so excited when he's immersed in one thing that he becomes unable to see what's going on around him.

Matome Mayonaka (Mayo)
Voice: Rie Takahashi

A mysterious girl who has a cool personality, but also a feminine side to her. She was initially pessimistic when it came to forming relationships with others, but she begins to change when she meets Tamotsu.

Niwaka Denkigai
Voice: Marika Kōno

Tamotsu's younger sister who is an otaku, although not nearly to the same degree as her brother. Although she thinks her brother's hopeless, it's actually one of the points about him that she loves. She goes to middle school and lives at her family's home, but starts visiting Akihabara more after Tamotsu gets involved with Mayo.

Arisa Ahokainen
Voice: Yuki Nagaku

A mysterious foreigner from Finland. She's an otaku who is just as energetic and just obsessed with her hobbies as Tamotsu. She can also use Chinese Martial arts. Though she's in fact intelligent, her eccentric actions lead her to looking like an idiot to others.

Tejasv Ratu
Voice: Misaki Kuno

A researcher who works alongside Tamotsu and his friends. She appears to be only an elementary school student at first glance, but she's in fact a tan-skinned Indian woman who is older than anyone else in the group. She is able to make a variety of useful items.

Kage-san
Voice: Jōji Nakata

Tamotsu's friend who is a veteran otaku. Thanks to his strange array of networking contacts, he is able to get his hands on information that normally can't be obtained with ease. His knowledge is as abundant as his waistline.
