A young man embarks on adventure when he saves a fleeing woman in this post-apocalyptic tale from the mind of Leiji Matsumoto. Despite strong production values, its lack of originality and time for proper development help prevent it from being memorable.

Guilty Crown Episodes 13-22 Streaming
Whatever else you think of it, Guilty Crown has guts. The whipsawing plot does things here that more timid shows wouldn't dare. Including, unfortunately, indulging the director's apparent hate of the human race.

Blue Exorcist DVD 3
Lets the action run wild for an episode before taking a big, jolting leap forward and then settling back down for a couple of episodes of easygoing character-building.

There simply aren't enough modern games like this: a dialogue-propelled adventure that avoids the pitfalls of its hazily defined genre. Neither uncomfortable nor mundane, Cherry Tree High Comedy Club is an endearing pleasure.

Black Rock Shooter Episodes 1-8 Streaming
A TV series where psychedelic sci-fi trip and coming-of-age drama cross paths. This unlikely combination is surprisingly effective, if a little unbalanced at the end.

The leads take a trip to Kokuboro as this TV series wraps up. Though it satisfactorily resolves its major story arc, it leaves some long-term objectives hanging at the end.

Skip Beat! [Omnibus] GN 1-3
What is the most often aired complaint about Yoshiki Nakamura's infectious shoujo revenge story? That each volume is too short and therefore over too quickly. That is certainly not the case with this volume, which packs in all three of the series' first books in 562 pages of revenge, grudges, and generally enjoyable lunacy.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes Blu-Ray + DVD
Swords and flashy magic rule in this sprawling fantasy tale which bounces between being silly, serious, and extremely graphically violent. Ultimately it gets more ambitious than it can smoothly handle.

Hot Gimmick is not only dripping with angst, but practically screams out, “My angst is bigger than yours!” Miki Aihara gives us a positively twisted story with enough real-life mishaps that would make even the best soap opera pale in comparison.
