And now Scanlators have lost all of their justification. They may still use the "SCANLATIONS ARE FAST ZOMG" excuse, but it sounds like a lot of unlicensed Japanese series will be available at our fingertips in the near future.

I wonder if it will be English-language? If not... Confused

Wow. Very interesting. I wonder how this will affect English publishers. Less licenses for them, probably?

I'll be very glad when this opens, though. Very Happy

I'm pretty sure they'll be in English

They wouldn't launch a North American manga portal for people to read it in, say... french!

Once again, this is very good news and will have a great effect on scanlating groups, the sites that host them, and english publishers. Although not exactly to the same degree for all of them.

I hope this means that the US releases online can actually be fast, keeping pace with their Japanese releases, say within a month or two, or even simultaneously, instead of the usual few years (how anime consistently releases faster than manga is beyond me); as well as more manga titles.

Well, this is a good thing for people who like digital publications, but I just hope it doesn't have adverse effects on the printed volumes. I do not currently, nor do I in the future want to read my manga on my computer.

Interesting. At least it shows that efforts continue to be made in order to give a legitimate alternative. Admittedly, the only manga I follow is Berserk so this probably won't matter much to me, but I like the idea of it.

Um... I am not really a fan of digital manga but I still want to know if this is going to be available outside North America?

Highly unlikely. It says North American Manga portal. The publishers would have to do an international type manga portal if you want to read them.

I don't see why it would be. It's a North American portal. That pretty much sums up the distribution region. That's not to say that they won't open portals elsewhere, but the particular one they're referring to here I would have to figure is only available to the North American market.
