Then log in and check the remember box.

I appreciate the advice, but I do not allow computers to "remember me". As a web developer, I find this option a severe circumvention of security as so many people rely on it, they use the feature on computers which don't even belong to them, as you're recommending I do.

I've addressed the issue as I felt I needed to. As far as I'm concerned, the matter is over for me.

Since your a web developer, I am sure you know that with Firefox you can delete specific cookies, including from sites that you choose to remember you. Your quite right choosing remember me could pose a security concern, but in the case of ANN, it's easy to simply delete the cookie that stored once your done with the website.

Do I understand where your coming from? Absolutely, as I know slightly more about computers than the average person. Again, you are quite right that it may not be a wise move to check remember me on a work computer, but the sole reason I suggested that is that it would eliminate the chance of receiving strange stares from co workers or worse from your boss if you accidentally close the browser or such.

By not clicking remember me, it's probable that the same advertisement/skin or something similar may pop up and since your at work, that could happen at a very inconvenient time.

But like I said earlier, during any given time, you could erase the cookies and it's likely (though there is a chance) that will limit the potential of a security breach.

This is the problem. Without the cookie, the user is taken to the default page, displaying the ad.

I understand the request and do appreciate it, but this is a burden which shouldn't be ours to correct in the first place. The ad is unacceptable for display in a work environment and I highly doubt the HR dept at FUNimation would allow its own employees to display this as a desktop wallpaper due to the potential sexual harassment liability.

I should clarify I don't close the browser until the last work day of the week (if I can avoid it). Until recently, the cookie persisted itself as to not expire, so I was always logged in. Something changed, which isn't a problem itself. This ad, on Monday, was a very rude greeting when logging in.

It is of my opinion this ad is a matter for ANN/FUNimation to correct to make it suitable for work display, regardless how brief, than it is for the users to find ways to circumvent.

You and I may be lucky enough to make a few changes to our browser settings, but as an admin at my work, I can do this, while the co-worker just 5 feet from me can't even change the resolution of the browser, let alone use Firefox (company is IE, and no add-ons for that PoS).

As an anime fan, while at work, I must be very careful what I display. I've blocked several avatars by users here as well, just because of the potential NSFW liability.

I am forever thankful for AdBlock's ability to block images.

Haha, yeah...I don't have anything against Sekirei or Girls Bravo, but refreshing ANN's front page at work only to get an unexpected face full of a girl being very BRAVO made me minimize the browser in record time. It's a fine ad for home viewing, but for something as conspicuous as a site-frame ad, it was a bit much for office display.

While I could see the objections to the Sekirei ad, the Girls Bravo one is tamer than other skins we've run before that had no objections raised in the forums. All this stuff is very subjective, though.

I agree. Before I didn't let it bother me but now with the new site. I am VERY bothered. For example now there is Sekirie add running and with the new site it is constantly there. The problem I have with this besides feeling like someone is trying to sell me something by breathing down my neck like a sales person is that, I also have boobies flashing in my face and I am a conservative Anime watcher. On top of that other people who walk by the computer might think I am viewing indecent images like porn.

I may have to switch websites if the permanent add is not changed.

Hi jjnoahjames,

I'm sorry you did no approve of the Sekirei skin. We look at each skin carefully to decide whether or not there is any content in it that will cause problems with our viewers. Some skins are clearly borderline and we make a judgement call that not all people will agree with. Obviously it is too late to do anything about Sekirei as that skin ran 2 days ago, but I will keep your comments, along with those of other people in this forum when it comes to future skins.

As has been pointed out by others, as soon as you see an ad-skin that you don't like, you can remove it for the remainder of your visit in the myANN tab. Unfortunately, unless you are a subscriber, you need to do that for each visit.

PetrifiedJello;

I've asked Dan to look into the cookie issue.

Personally I would have to agree with what is being said here. I have been using ANN for years now, and have found that in jus the last week or so the ads have become increasingly less appealing to the "average" visitor, are much less tasteful and create a potential hazard to people logging in at school, work, etc. Up until this point I have found that ANN has been particularly tasteful with their adds, but these new ones make me sick. Is this what amine is being sold as now? That aside, i would have to say for my self, along with many others I'm sure, that if these kind of adds remain on the site I'll have to end my long use on ANN. As disappointed as I am in Funimation in the first place for taking this advertising route, it is your decision as a site to allow them to be hosted. I'm not on that would usually post about something like this, or even on the forums at all, but this seems just a little ridiculous, and is giving your site, as well as anime itself a bad name.

I agree with AWP and the others that have posted here. Sure, you can change the skin to whatever you want, but for those who are just curious about what's going on in the Anime world and don't have a membership here will likely get thrown off and would try their luck elsewhere.

If you want to advertise an anime that has chicks with huge breasts, that's your business. However, consider your audience and choose images that are less inappropriate.

More accurately:
- if you are not logged in, the current ad skin can be turned off until you close your browser or a new skin appears
- if you are registered, the current ad skin can be turned off until a new skin appears
- if you are a subscriber, all ad skins can be turned off permanently
