this is what I was dreading to see. someone associated with a series I enjoyed being announced dead after this disaster. I feel bad for everyone who didn't make it thru, but since I don't really know anyone who was in that area of Japan and directly affected by it, so it's harder to show grief for someone whose name you didn't even know. it seems like now having a name to go with that feeling makes it all the more real. my heart goes out to his spirit, the family members they've left behind, and everyone else there.

That's so sad! Moldiver is one of those gems that gets nowhere near the love it deserves. It, and a lot of the old Artland/AIC anime, was groundbreaking and introduced a lot of the trends which are now so prevalent in anime. (Moldiver had some siscon elements! I can't believe my little sister is a transforming heroine!)

Sad news indeed, condolences to his family, R.I.P. I enjoyed Macross II even if most people don't care about it.

For me, Macross, Macross II, and Macross Plus all pushed me into the world of anime making this all the sadder for me. RIP Hiroshi Kakoi.

This is very sad news for me. The story could have been done better, but I absolutely LOVED Macross II's music! So classic. The art and character designs were great as well! RIP

Wow. I didn't know Kakoi's name, but I certainly know his work. While Macross II may not be anyone's favorite part of the franchise, I still liked it well enough (it was more comprehensible than Zero, that's for sure). Like the poster above, I've long thought Moldiver to be an unappreciated '90s OVA gem (and the early-period Animaze dub is great!). RIP.
