Since I haven't read Rave yet I can't really respond to that "superior series" comment. But I'm a big Fairy Tail fan, and any omake or special for the series is always appreciated. I've also seen a few chapters of Rave, so it'll be interesting to see the Rave characters drawn in Mashima's new, refined style.
Though I can understand liking an artist's previous serious more. I was annoyed when I found out Takashi Shiina was working on a new series after Ghost Sweeper Mikami ended. It took me a bit to get into Zettai Karen Children, mostly because it wasn't the series I'd fallen in lvoe with in the first place. |

Personally I'm a bigger fan of Fairy Tail than Rave.
With most mangaka, it's a case of their first main work being their best, then they tend to run out of ideas. With some though, it's a case of their first time around building up their experience, ie a learning process. That's what I thought Rave was for Mashima. Fairy Tail stands firmly above Rave as a more 'complete' series with all the right ingredients. Sure, it does nothing new, but it does most things right, and that's all you can ask for really. Aside from that, will be really interesting to see how the Rave characters are drawn since Mashima's art has certainly changed as the years go by. |

Yeah, I agree with this statement. I love Mashima, he is among my favorite Mangaka, but Rave isn't his best work (as much as I love it) It kind-of drags near the end and we never really get that intimate with any other characters besides maybe the main 6 or 7 characters. Fairy Tail seems to take all that he learned creating RAVE and goes fututher with more fleshed out characters and universe. It also does a good job balancing out it's huge cast and has a lot better plot twists and devices. RAVE is much more sappy than Fairy Tail, so If you like little sweet romances, and the power of love triumping over anything, then you may prefer it, but if I were to live in one of his fantasy worlds it would be the one in FT. Still, I do love Rave, I just think I prefer FT at this point. All in all, I think Mashima's short work is his best though (although FT is doing a really good job lasting a long time, I'm hoping it goes much longer than RAVE as his material doesn't seem to be slowing down) |

Hmm, interesting especially since they're both by Hiro Mashima. I wonder how he felt combining two of his own series.
