Of the ones I've seen, Princess Mononoke by far.

While I don't dislike Ghibli (I've liked what I've seen well enough), Miyazaki doesn't rate high up on my list of favorite directors. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, his so-called masterpiece, only rates as a very good for me.

Well, out of the films he has made, when somebody refers to one of them as his true "masterpiece," odds are they're talking about Princess Mononoke. And I'm not just saying that because it's my favorite. Laughing

But hell, a lot of his films (including Nausicaa, which I'd rate as Excellent)are considered masterpieces by a lot of people. As you can see by these results alone, though, PM is usually considered his best by most peepz.

You sound like me, although I do like non-Miyazaki Ghibli films (with the exception of Lupin III, which I enjoyed). It was a tough choice, but I went with My Neighbors the Yamadas for my favorite. It has such an early-90s The Simpsons vibe to it and completely cracked me up.

Lies. Mad It's because Princess Mononoke is the best--plain and simple. Cool

In saying that, you just proved you're one of the peepz who knows nothing. Laughing

No, it's not, because it was created before Ghibli was even formed. Because it shares themes that are very similar to some of Ghibli's other films/it played a pretty big part in Ghibli being formed in the first place/Miyazaki directed it, a lot of people like to consider it their first film, even if that's technically not true.
Ah ok, since Nausicaa is not actually a Ghibli film the 2 Ghibli films that are my favorite then are Kiki's Delivery Service and Only Yesterday. Princess Mononoke doesn't really rank highly for me, there are several Ghibli movies that I like better than it.

Well, there's nothing wrong with going ahead and labeling Nausicaa as a Ghibli film, even if that's not 100% true. Everybody else does, including Disney. Laughing

My favorite is My Neighbor Totoro it was one of two anime movies/series that started my path down anime lane and made me the big fan of anime that I am. It is the only anime that would tempt me to buy and collect any merchandise which I normally would not do. I even found Totoro rubber stamps in my quest.

I wasn't sure if I should vote since I have only seen 5 of the listed films, but I decided to go ahead and vote for Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind since I consider it to be one of the best films of any kind that I have seen.

If that film didn't count then it would be a a tough decision between Porco Rosso and Laputa.

I have six others on the list sitting in my massive backlog so my choice could change. Will I watch at least 1-2 of them before I succumb to the temptation to check out the BD of Nausicaa I just got? Wink
