That makes three Fall-Spring split series thus far. (The others being Fate/Zero and Kimi to Boku).

For all N* of you who are still following Horizon.

*Insert appropriately small number of N here depending on whether it's really as cruddy as it's been made out to be.

This is a thing? Huh, and this was the first I'd heard of it.

What motivates this? Production difficulties? Something else money-related?

Sunrise did something similar with Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Gundam 00, except instead of two one-cour splits with a single season wait between halves it was two two-cour splits with a two season wait between halves. That's because of the way the two series were aired as a sort of tag-team duo.

It's definitely been a thing for the past few years. A good number of Starchild productions have done this, among others. Often you'll recognize it by a "second season" being announced immediately at the end of a one-cour show, with that "second season" airing in three months time (which really means it's a two-cour show with a break in the middle).

What generally motivates it, I understand, is production scheduling (particularly of key animators); they don't need to outsource quite as heavily and can buy themselves a bit more time to get things done right the first time.

(As for this article in particular, it seems they're back-peddling now, so perhaps there's been a change in plans... or they wanted it to be announced in a different way.)

It's like Yugi-Oh Season-0 all over again, like the first season was just a warmup. Laughing

Will Horizon actually have a plot this time? I gave it four episodes and just dropped it. Sure, it's got good music, artwork, and animation, but there's no plot! There's no structure! The only saving grace story-wise is that it's far more coherent than Sonichu.
