So, this means that One Piece is getting an uncut release?

No. It means Toei is releasing it.

Anything else is pure speculation.

Given Toei's treatments of their other properties, I don't have particulalrly high hopes for an uncut release, but it remains a remote possibility.

There is a good possiblity that this will be the cut version with 4kids dub to capitalize on the TV exposure.

Even so, it stands to reason to say that it will be less cut than the current version. While the subtitled properties Toei has released directly have left much to be desired, all the releases they've done thus far have at least contained a subtitled version, AFAIK.

While I'm not particularily hopeful on a well handled release, I still find it better than not seeing it released at all. Then again, owning a license to distribute One Piece may not mean that much, and I may be reading into things.

Or Toei slaps the faces of Hardcore One-Piece fans and doesn't. Money's on the 4Kids dub to prevail.

The coverart given clearly says "English TV version" in the corner. This is definitely the 4Kids TV version.

So it'll be completely defective AND 4Kids' dub. Wonderful.

Somehow I missed that. Embarassed

It's kinda sad, really. I'd like to see it uncut and see what the deal was all about. I was always too busy to watch it before it was licensed, and I'm given no incentive to see it as it is right now.

I don't know, considering how Toei handles DVD releases here in the US, they might never release an uncut version with the Japanese language on it.

I feel that they are doing this to make a quick buck distributing these for 4Kids to those people who will buy it because they've seen it on TV and aren't aware there is a version that is much better.

Just goes to show that Toei supports 4Kids 100% and no amount of complaining is going to get them to change the way they handle their licenses.

Still, Al Khan did say that an uncut version was coming, this just isn't it.

MAN, is that some ugly, kiddified box art design.

Still, the fact that the box feels the need to point out that it's the dubbed TV version at all (something you don't see on any other 4Kids DVDs, even ones that do have an uncut variant like Yugioh) probably means that there are plans to release an uncut version at some point. After all, why would they go to the trouble of putting "English TV version" on the box if that was the only version they were planning on bringing out? They're probably going to be marketing the two versions to different markets, and want the differences to be clear.

Hopefully the uncut version will have more episodes to a disc (One Piece is HUGE) and include previews. And no stupid subtitle sound effects, so the subs don't all look like this:

"GUM GUM...(stretching sounds)...PISTOL! (punch, ding)"
