Wow, I was wondering if the manga had ended or not. How many volumes does that make?

And if Tokyopop doesn't release Spiral in October as promised, I am gonna be uber-pissed.

It's not going to be released in October, so don't hold your breath.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, does the manga ever reveal whats really going on in the story? I heard from someone that they never do but I hope im wrong because then i will definetly buy the manga. The anime was great just no questions answered.

The questions most definitely get answered in the manga. Allow me to quote from Sleep is for the Weak:
See, Spiral is one of those anime that acts like a big advertisement for the manga: if you want any type of closure to all the unanswered questions, that's where you're going to have to go.
Now if Tokyopop would just translate the manga...

So, say I was to finish watching the anime, then pick up with the manga. Do they diverge at all, or is the anime an appropriate substitue for the first approximately 15 volumes of the manga, and I could just pick the manga up at say, volume 16, and completely understand what's going on? I'm hoping this is the case, because I don't feel like getting the anime and the manga for every series I like.

Well, with all manga-to-anime transitions, there are certain changes. In the case of Spiral,
the student Sayoko is still "shoved" off the building, but instead of Sonobe doing it, in the manga it was a fellow classmate.
See, you knew what happened, but certain circumstances changed.

So, to sum up: Yes and no.
