Of course, you're right. I can't believe I did that. I don't appreciate spoilers myself and I would be upset if I thought I ruined anything for anyone.
Sorry. If there's anyone who hasn't figured it out by now, I'm an idiot.
@Animegomaniac
I'm assuming you've recently watched this series. For me it's been a while, and I don't know who or what you're talking about. Probably means I shouldn't be participating in any discussions about it. Let alone spoiling it for others.
I'll be going away for a while... |

| @ GDFan - don't take it too hard. Honest mistakes happen. I probably sounded a little snippier than I needed. At least you have indicated you get it as opposed to taking a "eh, what's the big deal?" approach, which I appreciate. |

I have a similar thing but mine is now much finer in detail. If I watched a show (via fansubs or legal streaming) and did not care for it, I do not feel obliged to purchase it (I just finished Infinite Stratos last week and I am not going to be getting it once was enough for me.)
Now if I have watched a show completely via FS or legal streaming and I do enjoy it I will get it but now I am starting to tier my purchases. I finished Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai the other day and I though it was an okay show. Now I will purchase it when it comes out from Funimation but it is not a first day purchase for me at all. I will get it when ever I decide I want to purchase it. |
See, my policy has also influenced how I watch fansubs. And yes, I rely pretty much on fansubs and not streams because when I watch the fansubs, I'm in an area that usually doesn't have an internet signal. I watch my DVDs/BDs at home, and I watch the fansubs when I'm at work out on the ocean. Anyways, as I was saying, there's just so many shows coming out that now if I find I'm not enjoying a show, I'll just drop it midway through instead of toughing it out in the hopes that it gets better. I have a pretty good handle on how anime usually turns out, and if it's boring up to the midpoint, then it's not going to be salvaged for me. Thus, if I watch something to completion, then I got enough enjoyment out of it that I feel it's worthy of being on my shelves. So, the majority of my collection that I buy these days is stuff that I can be proud to have on my shelves. Of course, I do make some blind buys, just to keep things interesting, but they're not as blind as they were back in the early 2000's because with sites like ANN, you almost have to make a concerted effort NOT to know anything about a series. |

| I am trying to find box sets of Urusei Yatsura, esecially the later volumes. I have 1,2,3,4, and 6. I don't mind if they are opened either since I am going to be watching them. They just seem to get rarer and rarer..sigh.. |

Yeah, they are long LONG out of print. I wish you luck with that.
On another note, I recently saw a preview for Innocent Venus and it looked interesting. I think I might pick up the Rightstuf bundle of it with the box for $20. Is this a good deal does this fall under the "If it's that cheap it's because it sucks" rule? |

Need some quick help from manga people! There's this lot on eBay for most of From Far Away (and the two vols its missing are available on TRSI, so they're clearly not rare), and don't you dare go look up that lot ! But yeah, I read one review that said they really liked it, but it's a series that's more strictly for teens, and I'm in my 20s. That it kinda has a nostalgic teens series feel to it or something like that. Is it worth my money?
And then, saw the "buy" thread, someone mentioned Freedom, the DVD of which is indeed a mere $20 on discotek's ebay site. I like scifi, it's delicious. And I like Katsuhiro Otomo's character designs (kinda sorta) and his scene direction, but he didn't actually direct it so that pleases me (not going into why, not the point here). So might that be a good investment if I can get it for cheap enough?
I should also mention that I can only get one or the other for the time being and From Far Away ends at 11EST tonight. |

| If you can get Far Far Away for fairly cheap, then go for it. I enjoyed it, but it is definitely a 90's teen fantasy series and I've never found a particular desire to reread it. Your liking of it will be directly proportional to how much you like 90's teen romance xD |

Hmm, that is a very good question. Thus I look to my manga list and determine the number of 90s shojo on it, run some calculations aaaand...my conclusion? My four favorite 90s shojo (including two that started in the 80s) are Tower of the Future, Please Save My Earth, Banana Fish, and Kodocha. Notice that the first three are way more sci-fi, drama or other genre than romance, so that is a huge plus for me. If it isn't, the romance itself has to be very interesting regardless of present or absent fantasy. And this hinges entirely on the characters and the interaction of the main couple. Does that apply to From Far Away?
And then my least favorite ones focused on romance instead of stuff I found to be more interesting (like scifi or something) and I just didn't like the main couple. I like for the couples to be friends, not "girl is boy's errand boy" thing. Or I just found the characters to be boring, there's always that option, or it took long for me to start caring about them. Does any of this apply to From Far Away? |

Let's see...
-Magical Project S (after learning that the two DVDs I seen of it floating around online contain both halves of the series, I'm now tempted to buy it.)
-Night on the Galactic Railroad
-Mars Daybreak
-Arcadia of my Youth
-Gasaraki
-Mardock Scramble: The First Compression
-Photon: The Idiot Adventures
-Tenchi in Tokyo
-Marmalade Boy |

As a huge fan of the first two OVAs, the three movies, and Tenchi Universe, I say this with a lot of passion: Tenchi in Tokyo is atrocious. It has none of the elements of the franchise that makes it charming and good and is only Tenchi in name.
If you want it for completion purposes, I can respect that - just don't expect to like it. |

@Ggultra
I can only speak on Photon for sure (since I bought Gasaraki but have yet to see it, watching Tekkaman Blade first). Photon is a totally silly and kinda stupid little OVA that is more fun than it has any right to be. If you can get it for cheap and want a silly 90s OVA, it will fulfill all your desires.
I've not yet seen Gasaraki, but I have seen three series by the director Ryosuke Takahashi, Blue Gender, Armored Trooper VOTOMs, and Flag, and liked them all for different reasons. I've also enjoyed two series by the co-director Goro Taniguchi, Infinite Ryvius and Planetes. But it's supposed to be more like Takahashi's works with Goro Taniguchi keeping some semblance of sanity in the production. I will definitely say that Takahashi's works aren't for everyone, it's sometimes considered a love it or hate it style by some (although Flag seems to be quite well liked, I'll admit it's different from his other series, not just for the camera view, but for having a semi-realistic story. And of course it's more recent, some people dislike the cel look and might have only seen Flag, but I'd say it's not a good basis for judging his style, the other two are better for that if you ask me.). Also, mecha are compulsory in Takahashi series. They just are. Even in Flag. So yeah, I bought Gasaraki on the basis of liking the director. It's next in my queue. |

Completion is mostly my purpose of wishing to get it since I'm already familiar with the criticisms that many Tenchi fans have towards the show that range from the animation style to the alterations in character personalities (Sasami being a far-cry from her mature and charming personality in the other continuities, for example) and I've sampled some of the episodes back when Toonami was airing the series. So I'm aware that I'm entering some dark territory. |

After watching the last episode of High School DxD...I'm seriously contemplating on importing it since it was a pretty fun show I enjoyed. I'd like to see more of it animated since I've read the anime only covered the first two novels.
Of course, it all depends on what Spring shows are really good that I want on my shelf.
Ugh.... |

| @superdry - High School DxD ended up being one of my fave shows of the winter. You may already know this, but Funi has licensed it so you will be able to eventually buy it considerably cheaper than importing. |
