Seriously? If anything, the narrator pretty much killed the series for me.

Really? Luci Christian as the narrator completely made that show for me. She does an absolutely fanastic job, and it would have been way worse without her IMHO. Maybe the Japanese narrator isn't as good though. I don't know. But Luci Christian as the narrator in Okami-san is definitely my favorite narrator of all-time (though I haven't seen all of the shows on this list).

The narration in Okamisan was awful. Not just because it went on at the same time as characters spoke or because the seiyu sounds very annoying, but also because it was done for way too long when it wasn't even required.
There are good ways to fit the narrator without making it sound absolutely pointless. One of them is to skip a piece of the previous episode. But they didn't do anything.

Thats sorta like the entire joke.

Anyway, Arai Satomi's narration was godlike, and easily the best part of an otherwise rather mediocre show.

Does "Kyon" count as an "actual name"?

Kyon is a great choice, but what about the one in 'The Tatami Galaxy' ?

He's unbeatable Shocked

Agreed with both of these. Just one more comment on the actual list:

Let's face it, no one can beat Norio Wakamoto in a narration-off, if there was such a thing.

He is simply the best there is.

Yeah, having Kuroko narrate was the best thing about the series. The _only_ other positives about the series was some of the character designs, and the OP. Unfortunately, those weren't enough to overcome all of the other negatives about the series and get me to buy it; Funi's decision to slightly edit the cover art would make the purchase even harder.

One of the paths in "Amagami SS" had a snarky narrator.
As the female protagonist of the path was such a wet lettuce, the narration was the only thing that made it worth watching.

Might have been a better show if it had all had narration.

I also think the narrator in Ookami-san was the best thing about it too.

Norio Wakamoto is one of the few voice actors that has impressed me enough to try find out who's behind the voice after hearing it in a few shows. It's a very distinct one.

The choice I would have picked is not on the list though, that is Gargoyle at the Yoshunaga's.
He did the voice of the Gargoyle, and unless my memory completely fails me, the narration of the show as well.

Interesting idea for a list! I know I'm in the minority here, but I despise Kyon's narration (I've only ever listened to the English dub, so I have no idea if watching it subtitled would change my opinion at all. I intend to find out at some point). I wasn't crazy over Crispin Freeman's performance (yes, yes, I know I'm the only one in the world who feels this way, don't worry) and the character of Kyon just came across as a pill to me. Haruhi and the girls spoiler[give a kick-ass concert and all he can manage is to tap his pinky a little (yes, yes, I realize that's the whole point - that tiny action is the equivalent of you and I doing cartwheels of joy, I get it -] but it doesn't make me like the snide dick.)

Having said all that, I do understand why he is on the list even though I personally don't feel he is a hilarious narrator.

Love Norio Wakamoto's voice. His role as the narrator in Hayate is probably my favorite role of his.

His role as narrator in Hayate is my favorite narrator role of his, but his best overall role in my eyes will always be as Onsokumaru. I can't imagine any other voice for that character than his.

I would prefer Norio narrating my life over Morgan Freeman any day.

What's even better is he (Wakamoto) tends to narrate a number of Japanese variety shows. Pretty much dictated which ones I watched while in Japan Razz
