I find myself very tempted to import the Blu-Rays of Serial Experiments Lain and Haibane Renmei, but I keep getting this nagging feeling that as soon as I do, Funimation will announce their Blu-Ray releases of them.

You heard it here first, folks: It's all my fault that they aren't yet available in North America on Blu-ray Laughing

I just ordered my copy of the Lain blu-ray. Amazon.jp is way cheaper than ebay or anywhere else I saw.

Oh, and you're welcome Wink

Rooster Teeth podcast with FUNimation (starting @ 72:55 | April Bennett, Supervising Producer & Justin Rojas)

Some of the key points:
  • Mass Effect: Paragon Lost | 90-minute film | 2D/3D mix
  • Worldwide release
  • DVD and Blu-ray planned for a November 6th release
  • Planned home video release extras: "see the Production I.G studio and the production process and then talking to the director"
  • Theatrical plans not finalized

And also this:
After Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker and Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, April Bennett (Supervising Producer, FUNimation) noted this: "3 other films in the pipeline." No additional details are provided at this time.

via 91.8 The Fan: Interview with Lance Heiskell

Note: the interview occurred sometime before the June and July solicitations.

Some of the key points:
Quote:
- "We are trying to do some really nice things for Tenchi and Lain."
- "What I'm very excited is...seeing the Blu-ray...Tenchi Muyo with the original series and those 3 movies."
- "We have it in house, I just haven't watched is...I really want to see that new telecine print that Geneon Japan did for Lain."
- "I can't wait for Hellsing Ultimate for us to put out the new ones and then put out the old ones on Blu-ray."

That puts me over the moon. Tenchi and Lain blu-rays? Dream come true, buddy.

Did Lance specifically say there would be a Lain BD? Because those excerpts that WTK quoted don't seem to specifically say that, but maybe he said in the full interview?

I know the OVAs and Movies got BDs, but did Tenchi Universe ever get a BD? I'd look on Amazon JP, but searching for anything Tenchi is impossible since everything is just called "Tench Muyo".

I listened to the whole interview. He said that they have the new Geneon print that they used for the restore release. He didn't specify blu ray, but he talked about it in the same block as the Tenchi blu rays. I'm optimistic.

Interesting. I still have to watch my Lain volumes. I'm not entirely sure I'll feel the need for a BD double dip. Hellsing Ultimate isn't a problem because I never owned any of the releases to start with so BDs are the obvious way to go.

Yeah, I don't feel the need for a Lain double dip, but I do own all the Geneon releases of Hellsing Ultimate, so I'm not certain if I'll double dip on those. I might just start up with the BDs where the Geneon releases left off and call it good. I'm not really much on the whole double dipping thing. I think the only series I've actually done it with is Clannad.

Same here. While an entire BD set of Hellsing Ultimate would be nice, I'll probably just pick up Funi's BDs from where Geneon left off.

I am totally stoked that we have at least a tentative general release date for Black Lagoon s3. I feel like I've been waiting FOREVER for this.

I consider Lain to be a masterpiece, and anything I place in that category is highly susceptible to double dips Laughing

Tenchi Unverse (and Tenchi in Tokyo) were not released on BD in Japan.

It was (again) implied that they have BD rights. Previously it was mentioned by Adam Sheehan (in less details, but noted how nice the telecine print looked). To me it would not make sense for them not to released the series on Blu-ray if they keep bring up the telecine print from Geneon Japan.

EDIT: From an inquiry on whether FUNi will be releasing the series on BD...Lance replied (link):

Fingers crossed!
