Nothing wrong with this.

Opening a restaurant inspired with beloved One Piece if anything the basic premise is that is paying tribute to it, he will make some money because decorations based on One Piece so what, like he said, opening a place to One Piece fans IN CHINA to have fun.

Or what, TOEI or whoever hold the rights to One Piece plan to open a restaurant in CHINA or ELSEWHERE for OP fans overseas? VERY unlikely, so why deprive some fans of having some fun with OP.

In the long run what this does is increase OP fanbase, and some of those fans have the potential to generate the obsessive money-hungry rights-holders some revenue in the future, since you can never discards that more than one may want to try the "authorized, original" stuff sometime (travel to japan, visit jump shops, try a "authorized" OP restaurant there, buy some figurines on the internet, ect, etc. )

It makes me want to puke the constant news of authorized, unauthorized, illegal, copyright infringement news we get bombarded with since the last couple years almost on daily basis.

If they dont like it, the rights-holders should have a limit on greed and how they let people interact with their so called INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES, figure out a way already to make people enjoy your IP and not be labeled criminals for not being able to purchase everything you throw at them, for having fans in COUNTRIES that cannot directly generate revenue for you ---another thing that makes me puke is to read the comments of many that are in JP or the USA and dare say, sorry pal, you dont have access in your coutry legally, dont watch it, you dirty thief, you have no roght to watch anime, are so retarded and so common in many boards, even here---....

Yep! Who gives rat’s a** , it’s not my property. Thieves have convoluted excuses to justify what they do.

Somebody should make a countdown clock for how long it'll take Shueisha to storm the place and start arresting people. Like they've been doing for everything unauthorized and "One Piece"-related.

The owner's response can basically be summarized as: "This is China and we don't believe in intellectual property."

Dude, this is not racism. China (well under this current regime) has notoriously copied off copyrighted stuff. For example:

and these:

pictured above: The Chinese PSVITA

Pctured above: The "Iped", China's blatant version of Ipad.

People seem to forget that China is still Communist. One of the basic tenets of Communism is that property is crime. So saying the Chinese should respect Western property claims is like saying the Chinese should respect crime, which is why asserting property rights has no credibility with them. When Communism was formulated, it was addressing material property and that it was wrong to claim ownership of things.

With that basis, trying to assert that the Western world can own ideas is like speaking an intergalactic language. They probably laugh themselves silly at the very suggestion. So it's much more fundamental than "we don't believe in intellectual property."

Anyone who still truly believes that China is still Communist is kidding themselves. Ever since Hua Guo-Feng announced to the Chinese Communist Party that they would be doing "Chinese-style socialism" from then on, I've taken every ideology-related announcement the CCP leaders assert to be Communist with a sack of salt.

Ideas are not the same as material things. However, I do think your assessment is correct. Personally though, I think the reason the Chinese copy so much stuff is not so much due to a lack of respect for "intellectual property", but rather that there are so many people competing for living resources that they would do nearly anything, even if it means ripping off foreign designs, or selling food that's been fried with oil collected from sewage drains (I'm not joking).

Just my two cents.
