Preordered this, and I'm quite pleased with this release. It was a sort-of double dip, as I've bought the entire series digitally off PSN. Anyways, I really like the historical references, (I got a few of the references to Chuck Yeager, due to high school American history) plus I learned a few things (the panty episode was based off a real event. Imagine that, but with a bunch of German soldiers). However, I do feel a bit bad for the pilots the characters are based off of- they've been immortalized as uber-moe anime girls. Not sure how they'd feel about that.
Anyways, I love this series (only series I like more are Madoka Magica and Steins;Gate), and think that the fanservice part is a bit overplayed- there's only about 5 minutes of actual nudity in the 300 minutes in this season, and I've seen more panty shots in other shows. Anyways, it manages to not kill itself by overdoing the fanservice, and still has a great story and characters with the moderate amount of fanservice. Anyways, hoping Funimation picks up the movie, quite excited for that. |
