Bad marketing on the part of Bandai Visual. It is one of the most successful anime ever outside of Japan. This is a show to watch with a group. I cannot enjoy this with my friends or girlfriend without it being in English.
I don't know what I think of the packaging...it looks strange to me. The texture, the choice of font, the list of names, all of it. Certainly not a deal breaker but strange in my opinion. |
It appears to have been made (deliberately, I would assume) to resemble closely the cover of the album "Deja Vu" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, right down to the color and texture (it's been a long time since I actually looked at it so not sure how much the character poses resemble the album cover). Interesting... |
Oh nice info there. That is very interesting.

Yeah, man, there's nothing else it could be. I've got my vinyl right here, and the only discernible difference is the color of the album is more brown, where it looks nearly black in that picture.

I thought that as well but dismissed the idea since most anime fans aren't old enough to remember CSNY. I'm so old that I own an album by CSNY predecessor Bufflo Springfield. Maybe the people buying a Cowboy Bebop remake are old enough to remember Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young?

no, don't think they're old enough. which kinda explains the "what's all the fuss about?"
Song titles like Wild Horses, Sympathy for the Devil, the 33 1/3 vinyl artwork on the dvd discs (the initial dvd release not the remix), the flimsy VHS cover for the best sessions dvd set... it goes on and on. Even the title as a nod to Western pop culture and things from the west. That stuff is all but lost on younger fans. but what can you do?
so with its return on blu, homage to "Deja Vu" is most apropos. the 27,000 yen price tag? this one works for me <starts> "there is a town in north..."

How about Berserk TV on Blu-ray too? That's been out in Japan for a while now.
- No on both. You can ask Viz about Berserk TV on Blu Ray. |

I'm just wondering who would buy a 4K transfer? The seventeen people who have spent $25K on a 4K TV and watch anime?

No one is buying a 4K transfer, the transfer was done in 4K. The actual blu-ray will still be 1080p.

The benefit to us teneightypee'ers being a better transfer than just 1080p or 2k. We'll get to larger resolution TVs soon enough.

Shit-who are you trying to kid? 1080P is good enough for the forseeable future-4K maybe in 5 or 6 years-8K? Pure wishful thinking!!
