There's some interesting, albeit probably expected, overlapping from this year's nominees and the top ranked manga from Kono Manga ga Sugoi 2013 voters:

Brides' Story, absolutely. It's too bad we never get any Dengeki-esque fantasy manga, though (stuff like Erementar Gerad). It's all a certain style and certain topics.

yep. I think it is going to be Kaoru Mori's year this time around.

She keeps getting nominated. It is about time she got the prize.

Any manga title that was released in 2012 and has eight volumes or less is eligible. The volume cap is intentionally added so that the prize winners would be relatively new works that have not already earned their popularity through sheer longevity.

No system is perfect, but this seems like a reasonable way to try and shine light on new titles and authors.

I can't really think of a better system. Even weekly titles can't release 8 volumes in a year.

I've heard good things about Ore Monogatari!! and from what I saw when I was in Japan this past December it seems pretty popular there.

There's some pretty good titles in there.
I've never heard of the Ballroom manga but it looks interesting.
