I haven't been enjoying Gakuen Polizi as much as I have Morinaga's previous titles that Seven Seas have brought across, but I'll pick these up.

Even from Erica Friedman's review, there's not much yuri at the moment, but I will give her a benefit of a doubt that it will blossom into something substantial like a truly legit yuri version of Your Under Arrest. Of course it better not get cancelled along the way with nothing resolved.

I actually just started reading this the other day, and I hope it picks up real soon because it's a real snoozer. The artwork is so plain and not much to look at as for the story it's just not that exciting when as the summary nails to a "T" a school that nothing ever happens at.
As for it being a yuri manga I'm still waiting for some proof of that after readings all 5 chapters available of a series only 1 volume long. Not once did I think to myself this is a yuri manga. None of the characters give off the impression or show any evidence of being gay. The only thing is the plot device of the manga setting being at a all girls school which could lead to it latter on. Of all the things Seven Seas could have licensed it seems they get lucky and get a major title once in a blue moon and then they get a bunch of low key titles that most mainstream or big spenders don't really want or know about. I know part of the problem is they said they can't or won't license titles from the top 3-4 publishers who in term own the rights to all the manga series people are dying to buy in english. If they had licensed Aoi Hana they would have had a real yuri winner and I know they know that people have been telling them we want it. As yuri titles go you don't get any bigger than that and it's going to end under their no more than 10 volume limit for a series. That title I'd pre-order the entire thing the second it was available. They should have licensed Sasameki Koto that is another great yuri title and it's not on their shit list of publishers they won't deal with, hell it's the same company they got Girls Und Panzer from so their is some hope for talks with them. |

More Morinaga Milk? I'll take eight! At last, Surrender Artist, you're becoming a crafty consumer.
The premise here seems to lean heavier on a gimmick than the prior two works by the mangaka that Seven Seas released, which were pretty straightforward adolescent romances in form, which does worry me just a touch. However, I like the author and the genre, so I'll be buying these unless somebody publishes a review warning me that reading this will make my head explode. Not that I'd mind terribly if my head were to explode. |
