I liked the Pokemon special. Anyway I'm looking forward to see what the dub of Bleach will be like and to enjoy some Naruto.

Ya know, EncoreAction reeeeeeally should've thought out their "Animidnight every night!!" plan just a tad bit better. They've played the same handful of anime about 6 or 7 times within 3 months, sometimes repeating them just a week later. Seriously, bad idea. I preferred only having it on once a week.

Hey, I used to write on fanfiction.net Razz

I still wish I could watch Mon Colle Knights. Maybe someone will be inspired and torrent them. The dub was funny way back when (at least to my 15-year-old self) and perhaps it still has that 4th wall goodness from 6 years ago.

Gigantor
(Cartoon Network)
-Tue Sep 12 5:30am - Episode "Return of Magnaman"
-Wed Sep 13 5:30am - Episode "Vanishing Mountain"
-Thu Sep 14 5:30am - Episode "The Insect Monsters"
-Fri Sep 15 5:30am - Episode "The City Smashers"

So Gigantor doesn't have episode numbers?
I recently purchased the 1st disc of Tetsujin 28 ($10 w/ Artbox) and I have to say I liked it. I know it was based on Gigantor so I was trying to see when it would start over. I know I can check the encyclopedia, but does [as] even air all the episodes?

Not so much "missed" as it was that until just recently Razer's and Zap2it's schedule had the entire Thursday night anime MIA.

Stop with this.

Not every television schedule for every channel in both America and Canada is always available 100 percent of the time all the time, and it's not always possible to get all that data by the deadline. Brian Hanson is an American writer and writing about Canadian television is a challenge; this isn't his full-time job, nor does anyone expect him to constantly provide a perfect snapshot of what's on Canadian television all the time since he does not live in Canada and the only way he gets your TV listings is through websites that provide them.

The Click is not intended to replace your TV guide or whatever website provides you with your local TV listings.

A lot of people really seem to be misinterpreting this column; it's not supposed to be a 100 percent perfect listing of every anime being aired on every channel in North America, cable, satellite, digital, PBS, network or otherwise.

It's imperfect. Deal with it, please.

But people are cool because "they notice things". And they are better than ANN because they "know more"... Rolling Eyes

Hello! Smile

I am new here. I always find the Click to be a very useful guide. I am looking forward to the dub of Bleach and Trinity Blood tonight.

Zac, while I sympathize with becoming tired of all the negativity, your explaination of why Brian Hanson doesn't cover the Candian shows very well brings up a question that's bothering me about this weeks column

So why then does Brian say something like this in this weeks column?

Quote:
Trinity Blood
(Cartoon Network)
Sunday September 10 12:00am - Episode 1 "Flight Night" (Repeats Sun Sep 10 3:00am)

I couldn't help but notice that Razer, the niche Canadian network airing the trio of Funimation's darker series, seems to no longer want them. Hiatus, maybe? We'll see.

Where did he come up with this idea? For all he knows the Canadian online TV guides are as messed up as the U.S. ones are at times and the show isn't showing up because of a glitch in the TV guide system. I have to admit that I use to follow a show up in Canada and I know how messed up the online guides can be there. Most have to have a Canadian postal code to use (so you have to find one and know what timezone it's in Wink ) and then you have to try and figure out what timezones things are airing in and the individual quirks of the way TV in general is set up in Canada (at the time I found the Canadian system of programming TV networks closer to what we use down in the U.S. as local syndication blocks than what is used for the broadcast networks and the cable networks are set up more like digital channels (G4 and Encore Pak) vs basic cable channels here (Cartoon Network, HGTV, et al) - at least that's the way it use to be five years ago).

Of course, the U.S. online guides have problems, as well [such as Turners in house program guide that services Cartoon Network and Adult Swim should be taken out and shot, IMNSHO - come on! you can't even set it to Central TZ and have it work Mad ]. Still, the first thing that would have popped into my head would have been "maybe the show is on hiatus or something is pre-empting the show or they were moved to another time slot" not they must no longer want the shows and then maybe they're on hiatus.

Also, if this was the first time it had happened, I'd let it slide but it's not (and I did let the first one slide until now). Instead, this is the second time in a month Mr. Hanson has made a totally unsubstantiated comment about the status of a show - the first one being that Eureka Seven would be ending in mid-run because Adult Swim was listing the show as going into repeats at Ep 26. While this situation has since changed (AS currently lists the show as continuing), there was nothing at the time that indicated the show was going to end at Ep 26 of 50. Instead Mr. Hanson jumped to a conclusion based on - mmm, that's a good question IMO. The last show AS pulled without airing more than one run through was Pilot Canadate IIRC, seeing they only bought 50 or so episodes of Case Closed and they ran thoughs through at least four times (AS just didn't pick any more episodes up). There was nothing IMO that indicated Eureka Seven wouldn't finish its run and that it was just being put into repeats until the dub was finished up (like they did with Fullmetal Alchemist).

I have to admit that I'm becoming more and more turned off by The Click column because of the wild speculation. As well, you seem to be saying the column is suppose to be more of a Op/Ed piece than a actual TV guide. I have to admit I had actually caught on to that already but I'm not sure it really is all that clear. Plus I have to admit I thought Mr. Hanson was in Canada, seeing the fact has never been mentioned before and this site is Canadian (or it was last time I checked). So maybe it would be best for him, or one of the other editors, to spell it out for those reading the site just what the idea is behind the column [Still, the real problem here, in my mind, is many who are new to the site think ANN is the Anime equvilent to CNN and don't realize this is a site run by fans trying to do their best. Yes, it's becoming more of a pro site every day but ANN is still not CNN. You don't have the resources of a major news outlet to triple check all the facts and not every column is suppose to be seen as a news item :sigh: ]

1. This is not "a Canadian site". My boss and the guy who owns Anime News Network, Christopher Macdonald, is Canadian and lives in Canada. I believe our webmaster is Canadian too, but he lives in Japan. Nobody else on the editorial staff lives or has ever lived in Canada; again, this is not "a Canadian site", the focus of this website is not Canadian anime news.

2. I think you're taking Brian's column a little too seriously. It's supposed to be TV listings with funny commentary, that's it. I don't have any idea why you think it's supposed to be a totally sober, straight-faced, doggedly accurate representation of the Canadian television schedule.

"Not every column is supposed to be seen as a news item"? That isn't true of CNN either. This site is largely run by professionals - Mr. Macdonald, our webmaster Dan and myself are not "fans trying our best", we're full-time employees of the site. ANN is not supposed to be CNN - the news is a fluid thing that changes all the time. You can "triple-check the facts" (which we do) all the time and still have errors in your work, still have to make corrections.

I had no idea people were so sensitive about TV listings or that they were looking to this column to be 100 percent infallible. Given that Brian does not live in Canada and has the same understanding of Canadian television that I have (that is to say, none at all, really), I'm tempted to simply tell him to stop covering it alltogether, because 90 percent of the complaints leveled against this column are related to Canadian television, which is apparently too chaotic, too complicated or too difficult to follow for an American to cover well enough to please the Canadians who read the column.

What I don't really understand is that clearly you do know what's on when and why in your own country, so I'm not sure why you bother nitpicking this column; I guess you decided for yourself that the site is Canadian and aimed at Canadians (it isn't, really) and that's why you expected that everyone who works here is Canadian and is writing for a Canadian audience (we're not). We would absolutely love to please our Canadian audience but the amount of complaints about this column in regards to the content related to Canada is telling me to simply exclude Canadian television from the column altogether.

It's just not worth it for all this grief. So let me ask you; would you rather I let Brian continue to cover Canadian television to the best of his ability and ask you to simply forgive the occasional error, or should I tell him to just stop covering it completely? I know which option will be less of a headache and less of a morale killer for me. What do you think?

Um I vote for continued Canada coverage. I'm not Canadian but it helps me out when I visit my family in Canada. My younger male cousins who are all anime freaks find it useful as well.
I had no idea people were complaining about the Click so let me just take this opprtunity to extend my heart felt thanks to Brian Hanson for all his hard work. I really love this column because it's funny. REALLY funny. It's nice to see if there is any anime on TV I'm missing, (I would have missed Samurai 7 without the Click) but mostly I read it for the funny factor. So keep up the good work!
