I saw the first episode and didn't like it. The review at least summed up what I saw from the show. It might get better but this time I have to pass.

The series picks up around Episode 6 or 7, and really starts going somewhere at Episode 11, but it never really breaks out if its cliche shounen shell. I think a rating of "B" is pretty lenient for the first volume; the series is pretty much garbage at this point, and stays that way until mid-second volume.

"Mild profanity" added in the dub? I could have sworn I heard the F-bomb drop multiple times, or is that considered mild as well?

Perhaps I should have said mild amounts of profanity? (It's nowhere near as pervasive as in the harsher series out there.)

You're the reviewer, so I can't really tell you what to do. I just wanted to know if the F-bomb was considered mild profanity but you answered my question, so it's all ok.

Key, you're confusing Rika with Mikan.

i'm actually disappointed in the style. they took the fantastic art of the manga, and tuned it into a completely generic affair, and that's not to mention how much they screwed around with the pacing.

Oh you're the one who wrote that review,it was good , but I have a question though , Since the dvd release of Air gear v1 is on FEb. 6 ,07' Does ANN provide you with the english dubbed episodes [a download maybe, or the dvd itself?] earlier than it's dvd release to the public?[because in order for you to review it ,you have to watch it first, which i'm sure you did.] If so then, How lucky!. It's really non of my business, just wondering, sorry if it seems intrusive in any way. I can't wait till the dvd comes out,I wanna see how the story develops. |

Anytime Bamboo (in her Shelf Life) or any of us other reviewers are posting a review before a title's "street date," it's because we've received an advance copy from the distributor, either directly or through our editor (Zac). Sometimes those are complete, other times they're just an unfinished preview that only includes the English dubs or some of the episodes. In this case I got sent a final version.
And really, it makes good business sense for a company to do this, especially with low-volume titles like anime that need all the attention they can get. If a company like, say, ADV sells even a handful more copies because of greater attention drawn to a title by a review on a site like ANN or AoDVD then they've more than recouped the cost of mailing out the free volume for review purposes.
Unfortunately that doesn't happen even most of the time. At least half of the anime reviews I've done since starting here are for volumes that I've bought myself. |

The first episode preview that IGN hosted captivated me so much that when I paused it to run an errand, I never got around to finishing it. That, plus Key's review, pretty much adds up to a pass from me. If I ever do buy it, well, can you say thinpak?
