When exactly are these "upfront" presentations going to take place? I'd like to know what else Adult Swim has in store for anime besides Blood+, which is already destined to replace Trinity Blood as soon as that series is over.
Toonami may also get some new anime on March 17, in celebration of its ten-year anniversary. |

Well, Cartoon Network's upfront is on February 14th. Adult Swim has it's on a separate day. |

While I wouldn't say Champloo is my near-perfect anime series, at this point it seems to be the closest Watanabe (sp?) will get there.
I loved the Cowboy Bebop movie but I'm not feeling it for the series. And while I didn't quite get the whole hip-hop vibe at first (hell, maybe I still don't), Champloo is still in almost every way is a better show, even musically (Yoko Kanno, why can't you impress me?). It was in fact the hip-hop vibe and the ridiculous name that turned me off to begin with, so maybe it's for that reason why it's not as popular as the aforementioned Bebop (unless of coarse Bebop gets drastically better in the next 15 episodes...). |

Bebop had me hooked at episode 5. From there I loved it.
I'm a big fan of both shows, but I think Bebop was much better than Champloo. The characters were better, the mood was better, and the flow was more realistic. There were times in Champloo where I was just annoyed when they kept reminding us that they weren't getting anywhere. If there's a reason Champloo isn't as popular as Bebop, it's because it's not as good.
I do like the music from Champloo more than Bebop's though. |

It should also be noted that for Adult Swim's airing of "Waltz for Venus" viewers had to endure one of the strangest edits ever made on television. So Canada gets a point in its favour. |

Anyone watch .hack//Roots? I noticed when watching the episode, the title that was given was "Lost One." However the info from the digital cable called it "Unretruner." <--note that is exactly how it was spelled by Comcast.  |

Anyways, though....CB > SC. Granted, though CB is my favorite anime of all time...and SC is within my top 5...so I'm not saying that I think SC is bad.
Overall, yeah, when I first tuned in, the hip hop and the odd name turned me away, but when AS ran it a second time, I watched it. |

I watched it! Yeah, the title card for the episode did say "Lost One." I remember checking the satellite info, but I don't remember if it also said that, or if it said "Unreturner." I wonder if they thought "Lost One" sounded better in English than "Unreturner," which I suspect is a more literal translation of the Japanese title.

Well, I'm just happy that Cartoon Network is actually showing it, since it's one of the newer shows that I wanted to see. Yeah, I was a bit miffed about its timeslot, but beggars can't be choosers. I admit that when I started watching the beginning of the series, I kept thinking, this isn't like .hack//Sign! I wish it were more like .hack//Sign. The first episode of .hack//Sign drew me in because of the presence of Tsukasa's character. Tsukasa is probably one of the main reasons that .hack//sign is one of my most favorite anime series. When I thought about it, I realized that my enjoyment of .hack//Sign, the .hack novels, and the .hack//Legend of the Twilight manga mainly came from the characters. (I still haven't played any of the games, even though I really want to!) To me, the .hack stories are very character-driven stories. I never minded the languid pace of .hack//Sign because it suited the characters and their character-revealing discussions. My other reason for enjoying .hack//Sign stemmed from how thoughtful the discussions often were (the "sparse intellectualism," I suppose). And then there's also the fact that I find the concept of A.I.s within The World very fascinating, especially the A.I. called Aura.
Now that I've passed the half-way point of .hack//Roots, I've become somewhat fond of it and I've found that I'm becoming attached to the characters, even if they're not Tsukasa, Subaru, Bear, Mimiru, Sora, B.T., etc. And that is probably because of the other reason that I'm drawn to the .hack universe. I am immensely fascinated by watching and reading about these characters from the "real world" who are playing characters in a game world and interacting with people in a setting that, at first glance, doesn't seem as threatening as the real world, partly because in the game world people can hide behind their player characters much in the same way that people on our current "Internet World" can interact virtually, and so often they do not act as they would in public. I know some fans of .hack enjoy the illusion of the story only taking place within the game and dislike the characters commenting about the "real world" (kind of like how Balmung says he does not like comments about the "real world" in .hack//AIBuster), but I really like it when the characters mention their real lives, or when characters mention the game when they are talking to someone in the real world. It makes the nature of reality in the .hack universe much more interesting. That's why, even though the quality of the story and character development might be a bit lacking when compared to .hack//Sign, I still feel that .hack//Roots has some relevance for those who are looking for it. Plus, the music is really growing on me, especially that one that sounds a bit like the Queen of the Night's Aria in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and the backgrounds and character designs are pretty (though the Industrial Revolution feel of one of the backgrounds took a little getting used to).
Oh, and there were a lot of cat-inspired character designs, which is always a plus in my book (especially Naobi's sort of panther design)!  |

anyways, the title change might be mix-up or last-minute change... (Consult Bee-Train/CC2 for that info...)
also, tell me more about the new Toonami 10th aniversary thing, i'm seeing bumps about "3.17.07" on the block....

No question here that both of these series picks are well above average in both plot and character interaction. However, Champloo is still holding a backseat ticket in my opinion purely because Bebop was the anime that brought me into the anime scene. From late nights watching the episodes unfold on CN, I fell in love with all of the characters in the series down to Ein the spunky and somewhat hidden genious of the show.
Champloo like for many others threw me for a loop the first time I saw it. The whole hip hop beginning wasn't my cup of tea but as I watched other episodes I couldn't help but grow to love the intro theme song almost as much as the intro by "Seatbelts" for Cowboy Bebop.
When it comes down to storyline I say its a tie. Neither one of these shows has let me down when it comes to creative episodes. In my opinion Cowboy Bebop should have gone on for a few more episodes to wrap up the series instead of leaving you depressed with its final few showings. Champloo does a good job from start to finish keeping the viewer interested and happy, while bringing in enough serious themes to avoid being pigeon holed as a slapstick type comedy which so many good shows became in the anime world.
In closing there is nothing to debate really. Both Bebop and Champloo have their good qualities and in the end it is a matter of taste to decide which one is the better of the two. I will always have a place in my heart for Bebop and its characters but Champloo is also one of those shows that you can go back to again and again purely based on its magnetic being and likeability. |

That's probably it. I seem to like the kind of music that has more pulse to it... which is probably why I've been voting for Kajuira (sp?) this whole time. But just to add fuel to this fire Nobuo Uematsu destroys both of them! |
