More Frontier hate in this thread then I expected. I loved Frontier, if only because of how BIG and EPIC everything felt. Which is what Macross should be. And felt like an actual progression of the franchise, and everything Macross 7 wasn't. Its visuals and set pieces were enough to overcome any weakness in characters or plot IMO.
Both of which weren't that bad either. |

As long you acknowledge Frontier characters were shit, It's fine. Anyways hope the next series focuses more on Pop music with mechs and less on drama.

I'm so happy! Personally no Macross has been able to top the original SDF and Do You Remember Love in my eyes, but I love the franchise and can't wait to see where its world goes next!
I hope there will be lots of outer space travel and cool music and aliens and romance and robots!! |

I disagree that they 'were shit', but I agree that they weren't as compelling as they could have been. And I TOTALLY disagree about having less Drama. Drama is a good thing. Soppy 'will they? won't they?' love triangles stretched out over 25 weeks, not so much. Think, more Battlestar Galactica (2004) and less Nisokoi: False Love. |

BSG and Macross are two of my favorite space operas, because they're both about societies struggling to survive in deep space. Also military dramas. They are also very different from each other, which is why I enjoy both |

The music is pretty good. I don't like it, but I'm not going to say it has no appeal to certain folk. |

Why so much hate for Frontier? It was awesome yo. Fantastic music, epic battles, well-realised sci-fi setting, and better characters than in some other iterations of the franchise.
I'm hoping the new show will be set a few decades further along than Frontier. However, the earlier comment about the SDF-1 being pictured makes me fear that it will be otherwise. |

The show had me laughing at scenes I probably wasn't supposed to laugh. I don't know if it was intentional, but SDF Macross was comedy gold in my case, like, better comedy than actual comedies. It was cheesy to the max, with corny and ridiculous character deaths, the best character ever made that is Kaifun, and of course the god awful last 10 episodes that completely ruined all character development. Hikaru got a major reset and didn't make a single move on a certain someone for like a year or two, not sure how much time passed. I love SDF Macross and I'd recommend it to everyone, but not as a legit good show, more like the way you recommend other people Troll 2 or The Room. But from what I remember, SDF Macross was supposed to be a Gundam parody, so it was supposed to be cheesy, but that doesn't excuse the flaws it had. |
