I don't know exactly how it works, getting the photos and all, but overall, the feature leaves me disappointed.

Of the ones I've even bothered to look at, all of them are "artsy" poses, which, yes, may portray the character, but don't give you any sense of the costume itself.

I would much rather see multiple images of the same costume, from different angles, so that you can get a better sense of the costume.

I guess, what it is for me, is that to me, cosplay is about the costume and the "performance" as the character. But with one image that half the time you can barely see the costume itself in, it's less about the cosplay, and more about the photographer. If that's the case, then can it be changed to "Daily Cosplay Photo" or something? Because it's not about the cosplay itself.

Hmm. I'll see about getting multiple shots for each costume.

The way that I was thinking about it, was that I personally felt like sometimes these small snapshots can offer a glimpse at the character, as though you're viewing that character as an actual person, and not necessarily just a person modeling the characters' clothes.

One of the reasons I chose to go with the photographer angle was because it does approach cosplay from a different angle, and they often see things that sometimes even cosplayers don't-- how the light that day brings out their character's personality, perhaps, rather than just the craftsmanship of a seam, or the construction of a prop.

However, I appreciate the feedback, and I'll take it to mind.

Everything is a perpetual work-in-progress, and can always be shifted so that everyone is happy. Smile

Thanks for your comment!

I do enjoy the Daily Cosplay feature. It's quite neat to admire the often elaborate and carefully tailored costumes and appreciate how much love and effort went into making them. The recent photo of an Astrid cosplay is just amazing. The belt, the fur, the spikes, the detail on the battleaxe . . . it makes my jaw drop. So thank you Bamboo for showing it.

Also, don't listen to those people who only want anime characters to be featured. I like how there is a variety, it keeps things interesting.

Could be worse. It could be like Sankaku Complex's cosplay (*coughporncough*) photos. I agree that this (ANN's) feature is nice. It amazes me some of the work people put into these costumes.

That's actually part of it for me. I want to be able to see the results of the love and effort that gets put into them, and many of the pictures just don't do the costumes justice.

I think the best analogy to my thoughts would be that what we're getting now is a single anime screenshot, vs. I'd like to see more like a full manga page, to get a better sense of the costume as a whole.

Bamboo - Thanks for taking the time to respond. I hope you get that it's not that I don't like what we have now, I just want more, to get to see more of the costumes!

Yep, I like the Daily Cosplay feature too, but I second Dessa in the desire to see multiple photos from different angles if it is feasible.

So what I'm going to start trying to do is posting multiple images from the same shoot, or at least linking to an album where you can see other photos.

Yesterday's image, from Resident Evil, had a link to the photographer's album that has more images. It's actually pretty neat that they went through the effort of getting some of their buds play extras, so that they'd have enemies to fight. Stuff like that I think goes a long way in bringing out the personalities of the characters.

It is very awesome getting to see more photos, like in today's NGNL Shiro. The photographers get to show off more of their work, and we get to see more of the costume/cosplayers!

I'd definitely like it more if it went more into their process of making. That way we'd also know they also actually made it instead of just bought it from someone else. The most important part of good cosplay IMO is the creation. I personally also think the person in the costume has to fit the character, but I do understand other people have different views so they cosplay characters with completely different physiques...so as long as they MAKE the costumes I think it's awesome.

Hi, I'm glad to be back and post my opinion about Cosplay. I do define this as a fashionable display of costumes. We see different colors of dresses, boots, hair and accessories that are even entertaining to view. I think, that it might be a way also of some younger people to express their emotions or to portray a character they would want to be. It is a form of an art for some also:)
