Even if it could be a fantasy (although the author did serve in the JSDF before wrote a novel), the level of knowledge on the field of modern warfare in the novel and manga clearly superior than standards, although it have corporate Japanese nationalism in acceptable measures.
However, local methods of making the "democratization" to the fantasy world looks more than realistic in the background of recent events in the world.

Hmmm a more serious take than Those Who Hunt Elves?
I may take a look.

Me either, now I'm interested too.

I love how they only reveal the most important details about her character. |
LOL, yeah.

Actually the anime was long hinted since October 21st when the anime's website was registered on that date.
As someone who read the manga and some of the novels, it's a unique real world military VS Fantasy army and monsters with some Otaku culture mixed with politics.
But be warned. I'm not sure if he got this before or after he served in the JSDF but the author has Japanese Right Wing views which was shown when he originally wrote the novels online but these views were tone down after the novels were published by Alphapolis. Also, there are some scenes in the novels/manga that might be disturbing for some like how people are brutally killed or raped. So unless your sensitive about these things, don't expect the anime to be like Outbreak Company.
Also, i prefer the english title "Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There!"

It's implied that the author used to serve in the JSDF.

Oh my bad. I didn't notice that part.
Still, I wonder how believable the story would be. I was totally turned off by Outbreak Company for its otaku escapist nonsense, so I don't want to see another cliched character archetypes and ill-researched plot that seem to favored by Japanese otaku.

These news made my day... I've been reading the manga for a while now and I really hope they make the anime properly and not an ax fest like Vanadis.

Hmm, may only check this out due to the fantasy element. Really need to learn more about this series, doesn't seem like something that I'd say is a must watch.

Question 1: Is this likely to be just another Fan Service Fest?
Question 2: Do you think they'll meet Those Who Hunt Elves?

It's not really a fanservice fest, at least the manga doesn't seem that way to me. It does have some fanservice but also has a good story; the fanservice is mostly used to reflect the era of the fantasy world which is some what like the Roman Empire.
