Before anyone goes "Is this is a bad April Fools joke?" I'll say that that the Japanese fiscal year begins on April 1st.
I felt like this was coming. When Sam said on ANNCast that Japanese companies have to renew their license every couple years, I kind of expected Anime Sols to not survive. The site always got limited traffic. A better idea would be to host the campaigns for full sets on Kickstarter or some other more popular venues. |

Again, they have to pay Kickstarter. If fans who buy off KS are too snobby to support Sols, it's their loss.

It was an interesting attempt, but after the first slew of shows all that was left were the dregs and leftovers that had too small an audience.

I was in it for the Pierrot classic magical girls... I participated in the Creamy Mami DVD drive, and would have done the same for Magical Emi had they pursued it. It'll be sad to see it go.

You knew it when they first announced the project and it wasn't using Kickstarter. You have to pay to really reach the audience and Kickstarter is where the people ( and money ) are. They did have some successes, so it was no failure.

It's only 5% for funded projects. You don't pay anything if you don't reach your goal. |

To be honest, when I saw the shows that they were doing and it was revealed on that first ANNcast appearance how much they needed to raise for each box-set, I kind of expected the site to just faceplant out the door. The fact that they lasted as long as they did is impressive.

Had they been able to sell to an international audience (and not just Americans and Canadians) maybe it wouldn't have ended in disaster. |

Just to chime in: it was hardly a disaster. The amount of financial risk involved was quite minuscule for the companies (by design). Rather the experience and knowledge gained by everyone will probably pay off in years to come. Collaborations like "little Astro boy" would have likely never occured if it weren't for anime sols. It had a lot of side benefits within the industry that are not readily noticeable to consumers. |

I was always a supporter of AnimeSols, so I'm sad to hear it's closing.
But I'm pretty grateful for what they've done, Creamy Mami on DVD in the U.S. has been one of my nerd dreams for years 
Plus I'd like to think that someone somewhere was introduced to something new and wonderful despite its production age I hope everyone on the AnimeSols staff is on to bigger and brighter things. |
