Favorite is no fun...
So I'm going straight to Least Favorite: 1. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie - This movie is horrible, even when I was 13 and a huge Street Fighter fan I thought this was dreadful. The plot is nonexistent and the animation is average. Popular characters from the game like Blanka are relegated to background characters and have little to no face time. And don't dare watch the dubbed version with poorly used American rock songs. Ugh! 2. Dragonball Z - Sorry, just not my thing. I find it beyond tedious. Seems like senseless fighting to me but without any graphic violence. 3. Wicked City - I guess its not that bad, but its kinda lame and sleazy. Too much needless fan service and not enough plot service. Cool monsters though. 4. Rurouni Kenshin - Not so bad, but like most things in life it just goes on too long. 5. Anything Final Fantasy - As a non-gamer I feel incredibly distanced by these. Snore. |

1. Eureka Seven This series was superb. I've not seen one as well written yet. The love story in it is really beautiful. It's one of the most beautiful love stories I've seen played out. The art and storyline are very masterfully put together.
2. Scrapped Princess This series had I think the best blend of medieval and scifi I'd seen. I've seen a lot of other attempts at blending these two genres. This one had a very interesting story. I really enjoyed it. 3. Trigun I really liked Vash. He was goofy and serious when he needed to be. The story was well put together. I think they did an excellent job creating contrast of view in this series. Knives was darker than a lot of anime evil characters I'd seen. It just brought out really showed such a difference it was great. 4. FullMetal Alchemist It was very well written. I enjoyed the series. They kept in interesting throughout. I thought they did a fairly good job developing the characters. 5. Wolf's Rain This was one of the most unique story concepts I'd seen. I think they did a very good job putting together the story. 6. .Hack//Sign This was a unique story. It wasn't an action or thriller but the story was interesting none the less. |

I have top 50 anime I like the most though..oh well I just list the top 10 most watched and everyone's favourite and award winning anime

Fun Anime [ToP10] 1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Although a little bit of this story I don't understand much but... It's very very very amazing anime! because' it's cute and perfect story line, the skipping episodes really confuses me~~ aliens, time-travelers, espers~
lol , and some of it are mixed anime [e.g : spoiler[In the middle of the desert where the battle between a monster cricket and these SOS brigade , Itsuki Koizumi uses his 'FUMOFFU' power[Bonta-kun "fumoffu" from the anime FMP! :Fumoffu?] lol] and I like smooth anime, the movements,dances,way they speaks very excellent different from the ordinary animes
2. Ouran High School Host Club this comedy anime about a Host club tickles me it's funny and very romantic, I like Tamaki-senpai and the cummoner ; Fujioka Haruhi and the twins~ bwahaa very funny and I like the ending of the story
3. Bleach the battle between Shinigami and Hollows and new villains~interesting story liness~ 4. Zero no Tsukaima this anime really similars to Harry Potter, magic school from a different dimension..just wanna say it's really funny 5. Rec this anime is about a girl who wanted to be a seiyuu [voice actress]~ the best 'Quickwatch anime' that is shown only for 11-12 minutes and only 9 eps. [no wonder the commercials in the animax are long.. =.="] --total of it for 9 eps are 108+ minutes only..I could say it's like a movie but it was seperated into 9 parts , but still it's a very interesting short and 'quickwatch' anime I've seen for the first time.. 6. Elfen Lied when I watched this anime...I was like, "HOLY ~~~" "W_T_F" [lol] a cute character but very violence anime I've seen, my eyes are like not-blinking O_O..genre of this anime : ecchi , violence , mature ...gee, the bloods are everywhere,,murder.. I "WHOA" this anime
7. Fullmetal Panic! /Fumoffu/ Second Raid laughing non-stop my tummy was about to 'blow' when I watched this anime especially FMP: Fumoffu
8. Azumanga Daioh cute, funny , full of baka-ness ,school-life , I love this anime!
9. Honey and Clover artistic anime and emo life about these group of friends, hilarious anime and sometimes they have sad part, rate it AWESOME
10. School Rumble / Nigakki cute chibi characters , love it very much

Sorry for breaking the flow of the discussion, but I have a question concerning this thread.
The top 10, bottom 5 thread has been a valuable resource for me in finding fantastic anime. However, the size of the thread makes finding and rereading many of the earlier top 10 lists very difficult. The problem lies in that you can only go forward or backward 1 or 2 pages at a time, instead of jumping to a particular page. Is there a way to collect these lists and have them more accessible, such as the My Anime lists that can be found in the stickied "Hunting for anime" thread? Thanks! |

Well, the links I made for the My Anime lists in the Hunting thread were purely based off of my pre-existing knowledge of users I already knew (or at least knew of).
Back then, I had created those guidelines with the intention that we'd actually have a system for asking/making recommendations, but it never really worked out  .
I can understand how it would be beneficial to keep tab of certain users' lists in this thread, but the sheer amount of them is a bit overwhelming and I don't think I'd be willing to go through 60+ pages of lists to find the really "great" ones and make links for each one. Of course, I could also try pruning this thread and deleting the lists of people who are one-time posters, posts of off-topic conversation, or just any list that didn't put a whole lot of effort into it, but even still that might only cut the overall number of pages to around 80% of what it is now. And even then, some of the people who were one-timers put a lot of effort into some of these lists, so I don't want their efforts to be wasted either. |

I tried looking through this thread to cut it down, but there's really not that much off-topic fluff. When I saw Rhesian's post last night, I started thinking of some ways to index this thread, most of which would be highly time-consuming. One possibility is making a list of links to each page on one of the early posts in the thread, á la the MoHS thread. Then we could put the usernames who have lists on each page, so we'd get something like:
Page 1 ________ ________ ________ ________ Page 2 ________ ________ ________ ... Page 62 ________ ________ ________ ________ It would take awhile, but at least it would have a quick way of jumping to each page and seeing who posted on it. I thought about doing an alphabetical index by username, but creating links to every single post (or at least 85% of them, leaving out discussion and mod reprimands) would just be...too much.

I too have found this thread to be a powerful tool as a new comer to the anime scene. The strict moderating of this thread has been much appreciated, and has served us well, howerver this thread has become HUGE... maybe a dramatic change needs to be implimented. There has been some good ideas so far, I just wanted to add an idea I have.
To prevent this thread spiraling out of control in the future, could people submit their lists to a designated mod? This thread could be split into two, one "normal" and one "lists of interest". The mod could add the exceedinly well thought lists to the lists of interest thread. Mods could also add submissions to the list of interest from people who are well respected... I'm sure people would be most interested in their lists. I can't tell you how much this thread has helped me, please don't underestimate it's importance. However I'm pretty confident in your decision, the anal way in which this thread is moderated gives me great hope

Hm...maybe what we should do with this thread is split it into thirty-page increments (start a new thread every thirty pages to keep them from getting too bulky and incurring that weird bug the thread currently has), and then at the top of each thread, name all the people whose posts are contained within.
For example: Top Ten Thread #__ Post 1 Page 1: screenname, screenname, screenname, screenname, screenname... Page 2: screenname, screenname, screenname, screenname, screenname... Page 3: screenname, screenname, screenname, screenname, screenname... Posts 2-__ The regular user posts. |

I'm far from a expert in this, but to me it sounds alot like the My Anime section that can be accesed.
With lists of everyones seen shows and raitings on them, and some even put coments to them. Just seems like its repeating itsself in thread form. |

Any way of organizing something like this would be incredibly time consuming and pretty ludicrous. There's almost a thousand posts to go through. Its not like when the general questions/identifying topic was merged and pruned, you guys are talking about indexing this gigantic thread. I don't think the usefulness of something like that outweighs all the trouble you guys would have to go through to do it in any way.
I agree with 2real, we already have my anime lists where most users rate almost every anime they have seen, which can be sorted by rating now, and have the added feature of all the titles linking to their Encyclopedia entries, and some of us go the ridiculous extra step of adding comments to all of it. Why index something that is so similar to what that is already but on a much smaller scale? And not only that but I'm betting the lists on here are no where near as up to date as the My Anime lists. I know mine isn't, I posted it here in July of last year and when I was looking at it right now I noticed it is in major need of a rewrite. So I'm betting none of the other users here ever go back and bother to update their lists either. I don't think anyone stopped watching anime when we posted in this topic and a lot of us have watched anime that easily trumped some of the ones we had on the list before. And my list only goes back a year, this thread was started in 2004! I vote for saving yourselves some time. Have a soda or some lemonade instead, that'll be much less trouble.

It might have helped actually to split the thread into 2. One for least favorite animes and one for favorite animes.
It would have reduced the amount posted. I'm sure you can allow people to see your anime lists. You can even set up your own custom anime catogories such as Top 10 or least favorite. You would then just have to link the the persons list where their rating and comments could be posted. |

Since I have some shows I still need to watch, I'll do top and bottom 5:
TOP --- 1. Great Teacher Onizuka There is no real need for me to explain this pick. Great storytelling, interesting characters and it never gets stale in any of the 43 episodes. Wataru Takagi nails the performance as Onizuka perfectly. Oh, and did I mention Porno Graffitti and L'arc~en~ciel are doing the OPs for the show? 2. Yakitate Japan!! How a stupid concept like baking break can become an engaging show, I'll never know, but the sheer innocence of Asuma Kasuma has definately won everyone. It may be a bit random for some, but since when's that a bad thing? 
3. Cowboy Bebop Well. There is no real reason why it's in JUST third place, but I guess it's maybe because the two series above it captivated me more. Other than that, Cowboy Bebop is perfection. 4. Fullmetal Alchemist While it seems like that typical shounen show that usually loses steam after a while, it regains the quality from the beginning thanks to a great cast of characters, voice actors and animation studio Bones. 5. Naruto Before the fillers it was a fun show. It had nice flow and it was never dull. While today it might have decreased to a filler-fest for kids only, it will still be considered as THE anime that introduced me to anime seriously 4 years ago. Bottom 5. Beyblade I never understood what made it so engaging in the first place. Monsters that fight, okay. Cards? Eh, reasonable. Tops? eh... Besides that, it was a VERY basic shounen show with no real reason to keep yourself glued to the screen. 4. Digimon Same reason as Beyblade, it may had luster back in the day, but it's the same routine. Pokemon at least had memorable moments but for me, Digimon was always drab. 3. SD Gundam Force Well, to be honest. I like the songs... I mean it has Nobodyknows+, Harebare and Little by Little. OH, Puffy too... That's it for the good things. 2. Inuyasha I can go on and on about why I hate this show so much and why I wasted my time for 6 months finishing 167 episodes and being left unsatisfied at the end. But wait, I just did it. 1. Green Green Don't get me wrong. I am a guy who likes girls and I don't mind seeing shows with ecchi in them, but there's a limit of how much I can take. Bad plot, bad voice acting, bad attempts at fanservice. The three main pervs are more as cruel jokes to men out there and the fact they remain the same throughout the show just makes it even more sad to watch as it goes on (I think about you episode 7!). Plus, it has the worst twist for an anime I have seen, which doesn't even make sense. WHAT?! |

I just finished watching this show. I don't even know why I started watching it. I found it kinda wierd. During the first few episodes, they seemed reluctant to show any nudity. Then they started putting little nipple slips here and there. By the end of the show, it seemed to simply turn into a softcore hentai. It's like the animators simply said "screw it". I agree, too many annoying characters to be enjoyable. |
